What...£15m!!!

They wanted £12m and we've somehow agreed £15m, crazy!!

£10m plus an added £5m dependent on future appearances success is decent business.

£10m seems about fair when you consider the potential of the lad, and the added £5m gives Crystal Palace a decent return at losing a huge talent.

If he doesn't reach that potential we took a £10m punt. If he's as good as many believe, £15m in 5 years could look like an absolute steal.

Calm the feck down everyone!
At least he is a wonder kid now.

Agree to a certain point, but for a few weeks the figure £7m plus add ons was being banded about but once United get involved the price always seem to go up by 30-40%.

Jesus £15m is steep if the story is true then this guy better be worth the 'gamble'.
I mean for that sort of money you could be in the market for the likes of Isco, who for me looks 10+ better than pretty much anybody in Europe for his age/position.

Never underestimate SAFs love for English youngsters.

There's a reason why Isco still hasn't signed for somebody else either. He doesn't want to leave Malaga and is in the process of signing a new contract which will double his transfer clause.

This is the worst muppet saga of all time, he's not shit enough for people to be disappointed with the signing and no muppets have got round to watching Palace yet to get excited about him, making for a very subdued transfer forum.

We better hope Wesley hands in a transfer request at Galatasary.

According to SSN Palace have just said they haven't agreed a deal with us or give Zaha permission to talk to us either. Probably having is medical then and it will be a done deal within the hour.

Fee changes a lot, indeed but it can be easily agreed in the summer... No rush.

Anyway, Gill is propably trying to secure the whole thing before other clubs step in.

15 million... How crazy is that. In the summer we get Kagawa for 12, and now we [apparently] sign some random kid for £3 million more. :wenger:

So soon, who said that?

The same logic was applied to us signing recent non-league player Smalling for £12m-odd when we got Vidic for nearly half that. It's looking good business now.

It's all circumstance and opportunity. I've no idea why any of us care about fees.

Fergie has said himself that if someone had told him that he'd be spending £24m on a 29 year old with one year left on his contract 10 years ago, he would have been in disbelief.

Do any of you argue with that signing?

It's funny seeing people get worked up over transfer fees as if it's from their own pocket. If the club thinks that he is worth the punt, who cares what we paid for him. Part of the fees are individual and team performance related anyways. If we end up paying the full amount that would mean the player has been worth it.

It's still fun to go with the flow though.

15 freaking million for Zaha - that's daylight robbery...

£10m seems about right and if we end up paying the other £5m it will be because he has fulfilled his potential.

He'll be gutted that he missed out on those Bugs Bunny shirts.

The £7m opening bid will have been us testing the water.

Nobody enters a negotiation towards the ceiling of what they would pay. You expect the price to go up, and a jump of £7m to £10m (both with add-ons) isn't surprising to me in the slightest.

Firstly, we don't know if Isco even wants to leave. Their was talk about him signing a new contract

Secondly, compare Isco to Kagawa not a winger. Isco can play wide, but he plays there as a false winger while we like our wingers to run with the ball with pace and also run channels. Isco doesn't go on the outside like that.

Plus Zaha is more of a run with the ball goalscoring winger in the Ronaldo mould. Isco is more a playmaker.

Well, yes and no. I love Smalling but if a foreign player who is as good or better (I know he's one of the best talents at CB right now) available cheaper, I'd expect the club would go for him instead. Well, that's what I would want anyway.

Don't particularly mind, but just doesn't seem like a particularly clever transfer policy.

We got Kagawa for something rising to 16 million. And depends on which report you believe we are getting Zaha 8 rising to 12 or 10 rising to 15. (if we are).

And Zaha is no random kid. He is English and proven in the championship with what we believe is good potential. Plus Kagawa was in last year of his contract while Zaha has 4 years left.

We bought Smalling for something rising to 12 million, Jones for 17, De Gea for 18.6. Bid 30 mill + for Moura in Brazil.

You were obviously not here for the Benzema, Ozil and Sneijder sagas.....they were far far worse.

I think he meant the other way around actually. I.e that there has been less excitement than other ones.

Yeah, as far as Muppet Saga's go this has been underwhelming.

Even the M'vila thread has just a 100 less posts that this, and he has never really been seriously linked to us.

Our transfer policy has been based around having a strong British/Irish core and we've had to pay big money to do so - record-breaking fees for the likes of Rio, Rooney, Keane and co. which looked well over the odds compared to similar deals for the likes of Stam, van Nistelrooy, Vidic & co. Given it's resulted in almost unparalleled dominance of the league I'd say it's not such a bad policy all things considered.

Raphael Varane for example looks a better player than Smalling and he went for less money - nothing we can do about that as we tried to buy both. Plus buying up any outstanding young British talent now is even more important than it was in the 90s given we have the likes of Januzaj, Daehli and Pereira coming through these days instead of Scholes, Giggs and Neville.

Who was that player we were linked with about 20 / 30 days ago, with the thread full of Puns of his name ?

I am sure there was someone who said the same when Spurs paid £10 mill for Bale as well

..yada yada...

...Palace survived early Bolton pressure when Chris Eagles looked lively and twice went close with shots, to extend their unbeaten home record to 13 matches but they should have gone on to take all three points to continue their push for promotion.
Instead, Adam Bogdan kept out Alex Marrow's late drive to send Freedman home happy with his day, but with just five win in 17 games in charge he would surely love to have a player of Zaha's calibre in his squad.

This kid sounds good, we should sign him up!

Why not... Do you think he'd go straight into our first team squad?

Even Powell went to the fringes straight up. Why won't he? Especially reading the accounts looks ready to be a squad player at least.
