I know it's Goal but 7M euros plus add ons is about right for me.

Manchester United have tabled an opening bid of €7.15 million for Wilfried Zaha and are confident of beating Arsenal in the race for the Crystal Palace sensation, Goal.com can reveal.

United made the first formal move on Thursday for the forward, who has privately told the Premier League leaders that he favours a move to Old Trafford ahead of the Gunners.

Palace have rejected United’s cash offer as they hold out for a higher fee and will wait to see if Arsenal will also make a bid.

The Championship club are keen to drive the price up and above €12m, although it is believed they have not stipulated an exact fee.

Goal.com understands that United are undecided on the framework of the deal and whether to loan back Zaha, even though chief executive David Gill said on Wednesday that United would be willing to let the newly-capped England international re-join the promotion chasers on loan.

“He is one of the players we are looking at,” said Gill. “Even if we did something with Wilfried, that would be for the summer.”

While Gill insists “there is still a long way to go” before Zaha moves to United, the player is understood to have told United officials that he would like to join Sir Alex Ferguson's side despite being a boyhood Arsenal fan.

And United believe they will capture Zaha even though Arsene Wenger followed Gill by going public with Arsenal’s interest at his weekly press briefing on Thursday morning.

“We are looking at him (Zaha), but at the moment we have not made any bid for him,” Wenger said.

Goal.com revealed on Monday that Arsenal had re-entered the race for the 20-year-old and were locked in a 50-50 battle for his signature with United as both clubs prepared to hold talks with Palace co-chairman Steve Parish this week.

Parish and Palace manager Ian Holloway have both consistently said that Zaha will not be sold before the end of the season but it is understood that the newly-capped England international will leave Selhurst Park by the end of the window, either permanently or on a loan-back deal.

The fee required to secure the 20-year-old, who is contracted to Palace until 2017, could stretch to €14.3m including add-ons.

Palace would prefer for Zaha to spearhead Palace’s promotion challenge and remain at the club until next summer but Wenger is only interested in a deal in which the youngster is integrated into the Arsenal set-up immediately.

The attacker, who can play anywhere across the front three, has been a driving force in Palace’s surge to fourth in the Championship, scoring five goals in 26 league appearances this season. He made his England debut as a substitute in the 4-2 November friendly defeat to Sweden.

Because my man, that is Jimmy Hills Chin, he knows it all!

Wenger is obviously a shill in this case! Remember SAF and his '6 million' Charlie Adam corners!!

I admitted as much that it was speculation, lets see how the 'race' develops from here my friend!

Ferguson complemented Charlie Adams corners by putting a monetary value on them, Wenger has basically said they have enquired about Zaha. If you can't see the difference between the two ... good luck to you.

Christ on a bike Heffo, does the excessive use of exclamation marks and the fact that there is a CE thread on shills, not indicate to you that I am being tongue in cheek?

Back to Zaha: Wenger says that he is interested but he has not backed it up with a bid, it is bluster from him at the moment. His comments on Cavani were odd too, they would have to smash their wage and transfer structure with an atom bomb to sign him.

Heard Fergie was at the game to watch Zaha.

Can anyone confirm and how did Messi, sorry Zaha play today?

He played very well according to a commentator on the radio. He stated that he was definitely Premiership quality but did not commit to saying that he is Man Utd quality.

Thanks, i guess we'll hear more in the Sunday papers.

So near yet Zaha: Man United move for Wilfried close to collapse after £10m offer is rejected

Eagles are not prepared to do business at that price, which means the deal could be delayed until the summer unless Arsenal get involved

Manchester United's bid to sign the hugely talented Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha is on the brink of collapse.

The Championship club have rejected an offer from Old Trafford – worth around £10million, including add-ons – for the **20-year-old England international.

Palace chairman Steve Parish met with United officials on Thursday to hear their latest offer.

But the Eagles, having *already slashed £5million off their original *£20m *valuation for the England international, were not willing to do business.

United are expected to resurrect a move for the 20-year-old in the summer.

Arsenal have not firmed up their interest with an official bid – and a Gunners offer could prompt United to return to the negotiating table.

But Palace boss Ian *Holloway will now have Zaha at his disposal as he attempts to keep the club’s promotion bid on track.

Meanwhile, Sir Alex Ferguson has warned that Manchester United are primed for another Treble assault.

It seems either Phelan didn't prepare the first bid properly and is refusing to prepare another.

In Today's game.

Is he really good enough? Has anyone actually seen him play regularly?

Nothing about him justifies anything over £10m for me. I assume a lot of that is paper BS to be honest.

Taarabt was a freak of nature in that league, and now....not so much. Anything higher is too much of a risk.

It could simply be a question of revising the balance of our bid, it doesn't say how much is up front and what is conditional upon further clauses.

When Arsenal signed Walcott from Southapmton it was £5m rising to 12 over time depending on player/club success.

well in fairness - when Arsenal signed Walcott - he was a 17 year old with 20 matches behind him. And he played in league 1 as I recalled.

Zaha is more experienced - he is an international and he plays in the Championship. Using Walcott as comparison - Zaha should be more expensive

An international? he was given 5 minutes so he couldn't declare for the Ivory Coast.

Papers saying the deal is on the brink of collapse because of a £10m bid was rejected. I thought that just part of the whole tranfer process.

A young British talent who can play as a flank man and a striker. SAF wont allow this deal to collapse so this is a done deal.

I'm sure Palace will point to the 12m we paid for Smalling when he'd played all of 2 games in professional football if we try to lowball them on Zaha.

The sticking point is they want Zaha to be loaned back.

I got an idea...why don't we give them Valencia and we keep Zaha!

We probably need him right now. We're suddenly looking a bit crap on wings.

If by suddenly you mean all season.

Yeah I meant all season really. Not sure anyone would've predicted before the season started that our central midfield would be very good and it'll be the wingers who'll let us down.

Yeah it would be nice to have another option out wide. At least we know SAF has recognised that as well. We've been in for Hazard, Lucas and now Zaha.

Gill has already said he would be a deal for the summer, which I took to mean he'd join in the summer. So I'm not sure if we disagree on that point.

Valencia has had a very poor season but I don't think a mediocre championship winger is the answer.

Wenger said something along the lines of 'teams will wait until the last week of the window when the price decreases.'

I think that's the case here. My money is still on Arsenal to sign him. I would like him for the entertainment factor as much as anything, he's a tricky little fecker. Teams in the Championship are putting multiple men on him to contain him.

Ain't that the truth.

Problem is, are we really ready to give up on Young and Valencia? I just don't see it.

We can probably skate through to a prem trophy with dire play from our wingers, but it's hard to see us finishing off Barcelona. The only way through this is to grind it out and hope our wingers can find their form again. If May comes and there's been no improvement, then personnel changes can't be ruled out.

Zaha steals the show for Palace as Fergie closes in on deal

..Manchester United target Wilfried Zaha showed why Sir Alex Ferguson is leading the chase for his considerable talents with a virtuoso display that nearly ruined Dougie Freedman's return to Selhurst Park.

The Premier League giants are in talks with Crystal Palace to try to force through a deal for the 20-yearold England international before the end of the transfer window.
Zaha is ready to travel north to meet United boss Ferguson and discuss terms once the two clubs have agreed a fee but so far negotiations have failed to produce a deal.

Dazzling: Wilfried Zaha in action for Crystal Palace
He showed precisely why he is being courted by the Premier League leaders, leaving former Palace manager Freedman fortunate to escape with a point.

Zaha, born in Ivory Coast but raised in South London, hit the post with a snap shot and laid on a host of chances, the best of them sliced wide by Glenn Murray from 10 yards.
The chances came as a result of Zaha's skilful, pacy wing play that Freedman did so much to develop before he left Palace to take over at Bolton last October.

'Goodness gracious me, was he exhilarating?' said Ian Holloway, Freedman's successor as Palace manager, before answering his own question.

Exhilarating: Palace boss Ian Holloway was full of praise for Wilfried Zaha
'Yes he was. Some of the best teams in the world are talking about him and it is difficult when you are not used to the limelight and you are a nice kid as he is.

'But the boy can do all sorts of things and is learning what being a good footballer is all about. He was consistent today, which is not easy when you are a wide man.'

United have restricted their valuation of Zaha to £7million, believing there are no other credible bidders Palace can turn to in January.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has also declared an interest in Zaha, who supported the Gunners as a boy, but has not yet entered the race, prioritising Theo Walcott's new contract, signed on Friday, instead.

Palace chairman Steve Parish has dropped his original asking price from £20m but is still looking for a deal that would ultimately be worth £12m to his Championship club.

Big future: Wilfired Zaha looks to be on his way to the Premiership
With time ticking down to the end of January, United are threatening to delay their interest until the summer but with both sides continuing to discuss the matter, a deal could still be struck in the next fortnight.
Palace would like Zaha to stay at Selhurst Park on loan for the season regardless of which club he joins, something the player is comfortable with, and United could use that as a bargaining tool, charging a £1m loan fee that would effectively be taken off the price of the transfer.

Palace survived early Bolton pressure when Chris Eagles looked lively and twice went close with shots, to extend their unbeaten home record to 13 matches but they should have gone on to take all three points to continue their push for promotion.
Instead, Adam Bogdan kept out Alex Marrow's late drive to send Freedman home happy with his day, but with just five win in 17 games in charge he would surely love to have a player of Zaha's calibre in his squad.
