Westminster Politics

There's 206 other countries in the world, I'm sure one of them will take me :)
Having gone through the visa process in several countries I'd just say good luck with that ... Unless you have a professional qualification that's particularly sought after... Have fek tons of cash or genuinely don't care where you go

Perhaps get out to Europe whilst you can as I think Boris is fairly inevitable in the next 6 months

Looking like May could be out by the end of today

Judging by PMQs i wouldn't be suprised if she was gone this week. I don't think the rest of the party want the vote to happen so they'll act soon.

She's run out of options.

Wait, what's the purpose of rules if you can just change them the moment they become undesirable?

No wonder these numpties want to leave the EU.

Why wouldn't you be able to change a rule? :wenger:

What's the purpose of the rule if it's changed the moment it becomes relevant? What's the worth of any Tory rule/commitment if they just change it at a whim?

If they fundamentally want to change rules like these they should do so in times when they aren't going to use them. (If they want to maintain any integrity in the public eye at all).

Conversely what's the purpose of maintaining an irrelevant rule?

The rule is there to stop constant attempts at leadership change to provide stability. Just because there's a majority against the PM doesn't mean they'll be a majority to override the rule (although in this case i expect it will).

Prime Minister Boris Johnson.
probably - but quite possibly not till August / September - once the leadership contest is done... not leaving any time for any renegotiating and allowing a wto terms hard brexit by default (or machiavellian design)
Its hard to imagine him bringing back any version of the WAB which would then allow people to ammend and try to block brexit...
plan must be get the bill pulled by booting may and use the leadership election to run the clock down
Even if May makes it through today (and she might not) the EU election results will finish her off on thursdy / friday
seems the only real question is does she remain PM whilst a new leader is elected or immediatley step down and they put an interim in charge... at a guess leadsom?

But the rule is relevant because of your second sentence... They had a vote to get rid of her a couple of months ago. If Boris becomes PM via this will his detractors start leadership challenges every other month?

At some point the UK will need a functional government again.

If Farage becomes PM I would genuinely move out of the country. Him or Boris, in fact.

No chance of Farage. His Brexit Party are only interested in that issue.
Now. Boris eh. You may have to start packing soon. Just the kind of stupid thing that the Tories would vote for to replace TM.
Someone with integrity and leadership skills.
I might join you...

A functional government. That would be nice.

Sky reporter Jon Craig:
Very senior MP tells me the word from the Cabinet corridor in the HoC is that the PM will resign tonight, Andrea Leadsom is poised to resign to launch a leadership bid, others may also resign & David Lidington will take over as acting PM. Unconfirmed!

Do not mention the “C” word.
Could he get in? My god that would spell utter disaster for this country, you think the last couple of years have been entertaining with May, I fear we have seen nothing yet if Labour get in thanks to the incompetence of this current bunch of Tory idiots led by the prime incompetent herself.

Zero chance of him becoming Prime Minister.

Well a party normally gets a 'bounce' from a new leader votes-wise, almost irrespective of who it is. Difficult to imagine at the moment of course, but I wouldn't rule it out. Especially with Jeremy on the other side.
Doesn’t mean it will stick. Look at Theresa!

Indeed... As bad as may has been as a leader I can't help but think leadsom would have been even worse... Meh perhaps we will find out I'm sure she will throw her hat in the ring again

Her quitting is an attempt to catalyse May’s exit and give herself a crack at the iron throne.

True... But there is probably 10 people think they have a chance at the moment (though if mogg or Johnson get to the final 2 I think the membership would overwhelmingly back them... But to get to that final two is going to be pure backstabbing and deal making... Yeah very game of thrones... Personally I'd never place a bet on anybody to be more slippery and slimey than gove so I think he has a real chance

I’d put a cheeky bet on Gove. Despite all they say, nobody wants this poisoned chalice until the decision is finalised. The one that takes responsibility for it won’t have much of a career left at the end of it.

Gove is wet enough to be the puppet. Steer him towards the worst outcome and then hang him out to dry when it’s done.

I'd say him and Hunt are both alike in that regard. They've both spent years being ridiculed and being viewed as incompetent embarrassments but they've also both persistently survived, playing key roles in the Cameron and May administrations, which is something that can't be said for most. Hunt particularly despite spending years being chastised for his stint in health somehow has managed to blag his way upwards and is very much trying to reform himself as a statesman who's both moderate and yet understands and is in tune with the desires of the Brexiteers.

Is this the place for the conservative leadership election guff?

anyway

Boris clear favourite
Raab
Gove

basically if Johnson can get to the final two it looks very likley the membership will vote for him... the real game of thrones shit is now in the background can Raab / Gove / anybody else get enough MPS between then to keep Johnson out of the final two?

I find it hard to believe anybody is a more duplicitous smiley psudo reptiliian prepared to promice anything to get in power than Gove so i have a sneeking suspicion he may be in with a decent shout at 11/1 ... also mogg available at 100 to one which although I think hes unlikley the odds of 100 to one are very generous
