Westminster Politics

"in its most recent financial results, it reported pre-tax profits of $24.3bn (£19.8bn) between July and September compared to $9.7bn in the same period the year before."

I'm sure that he'll be held to account when that extra $15b per quarter that they're supposed to be investing into renewables stays high.... or will the shareholders not like that.

This is so fecked up. The wholesale price of gas is lower than it was a year ago before any of the Russia/Ukraine stuff. We are told the reason that prices are still high is because they’ve hedged at a much higher price.

Well that hedged price can’t last for ever so eventually either we’re going to see the price come down or the already absurd profits go stratospheric.

It took a while for the latest culture war distraction trap to be laid by the Tories, but here we are

Think, why isn't there room for discussion for an amendment to be made, instead of an outright block?

Not only that but the moment wholesale price rises they will then be justifying the need that energy bills will increase for the next period.

Just like fuel prices at the pump, as soon as barrel of oil goes up the price gets passed on to consumer almost the same day. When prices fall it takes weeks or months before the forecourt prices drops.

I think this is a deliberate policy across much of the world to make us consume less by pricing it high. The language coming out like in the article from the energy boss is propaganda, they are brainwashing people into accepting higher prices, yet there is no logic in his argument. The media is also bought and paid for to spread this propaganda.

Nobody in Scotland gives a shit.

Ignoring the fact that a whole bunch of people do indeed give a shit about the actual content…

If you think that Scottish people don’t give a shit that Tory MP’s in London can just veto Scottish voices and law making… I suggest you rethink that.

This was my school of thought. Martin Lewis did a video explaining why the prices will not come down and it is down to the price cap and the energy price guarantee, though I must admit I did not fully understand it. I also do not understand why we are reliant on a price cap which is based on predictions of future events and why, when it is causing such hardship, can we not revise the cap or shorten the prediction range. The answer is of course because the cap is designed to protect energy companies rather than consumers, but it is outrageous.

This wasn't a vote on blocking the bill. If you are going to spread shite do some research.

It seems to be l have been about debating the UK govt's blocking of the bill.
One day maybe I'll understand the joy people get from splitting hairs.

The culture secretary, Michelle Donelan, confirmed that the online safety bill would be amended after pressure from Conservative backbenchers.

Under a further change to the bill, video footage that shows people crossing the Channel in small boats in a “positive light” will be added to a list of illegal content that all tech platforms must proactively prevent from reaching users.

Any Brexiteer caught watching the film "Dunkirk" online will be immediately imprisoned for celebrating one of Britain's heaviest military defeats as a victory.

PMQs is just pointless when that spineless cnut Hoyle can't even get the other spineless cnut Sunak to answer any questions.

Mind you, it's apparently the same elsewhere, take this for example:

She was on the newsagent podcast the other day. She was terrible.

This is unreal. I clicked on the link thinking it wouldn't be as ridiculous as it was worded in your post, but it is.

So the rates of inflation are down to external factors rather than the government, so if/when inflation comes back down presumably the government will not be taking any credit? Ah...

I must have missed the Brexit coffee cup as well. Laughable how they continue to ignore it.
