Why do your piste always come across as smug? Very Tory

Yes, I suppose they do, I'm having a go at myself really...after a lifetime of supporting Labour, I have despaired that they would ever get the 'hang' of how to achieve/use power for their 'natural supporters', the Tories seem to do it so easily, it's annoying but I've learned to live with it!

I thought this time with the Tories apparently in disarray it should be a 'cake walk' for Labour... but if Boris does resume command, then I am not sure, he's a 'rogue' but with the non-aligned (politically speaking) Brits he is a loveable one, and he reaches places others cannot reach.

Let's hope for once the fabled Tory ability to 'pull the rabbit out of the hat' fails. I have said this often, but IMO Labour needs to find the genuine big ideas that help the millions of their supporters in their everyday lives... e.g. the Education Act and the NHS both now almost 80 years old, millions of ordinary men and women in post war UK and since have had their lives secured, changed and uplifted simply by these two Acts of a Labour Government.

The truth perhaps is that too many Labour politicians over the years have been committed to 'international socialist ideals' at the expense of the basics (Maslow's Ladder) ideals etc. that are needed for their natural supporters to continue to benefit. As a result, what power the Labour Party held, was always tenuous at best and they were never able to make any real progress... and even if they do get into power now, the 'money markets' and external factors will have such a pull (in terms of 'economic gravity') they will need 3 or more terms of office to make any real difference.

If Starmer does win, then whatever the rights and wrongs of how we got here, he really does have to make Brexit work for his people, otherwise Labour will never get another chance like this again. Sir Keir does seem to have grasped that idea, so maybe just maybe he can come up with further ideas that rival the Education Act and Health Service Acts of yester year.

There's definitely a double down culture in the UK. Rather than admit you were wrong to vote him in (and brexit), get him in a 2nd time and hope for the best.

And then he'll be sacked, again, for the exact same reason he got sacked the first time and they'll be wondering where it all went wrong.

This will over by tomorrow I feel. Boris will rather get a front bench seat as Foreign than not get the 100 which he won't get and be embarrassed. Mordunt will get nowhere near the nomination but she will also be given a prominent role

Rishi will be new PM by Monday I am convinced

Yeah think it’s obvious at this point.

Rishi Sunak is no leader, he’s a petulant little twirp that gets hot headed under questioning. He could avoid it as chancellor, he won’t as PM.

He’s also in favour of higher taxes and fiscal control, that isn’t going to unite the party.

GE won’t be long.

I got the impression the working relationship between Sunak and Johnson massively broke down. I don't see how they can co-exist in a cabinet, especially with Rishi as the top dog to be honest.

I think he would rather sit on the back benches and chunter loudly that sunak has no mandate from the people and there needs to be a ge

And when sunak gets smashed he will have his chance to lead again

I see Steve Baker is now listed on team rishi... if boris can't get a big chunk of the erg I think he might struggle on the 100

They'll work together for the stability of the party to try and stop an election which means lots of their colleagues will lose the best paying job they'll ever have and the stability of the country to try and stop an election which means lots of their colleagues will lose the best paying job they'll ever have.

‘Make Brexit work’ … is that a joke?

Guido’s list now has 60% declared but Boris only has 55 named votes on there. All depends on how real the anons are.
It may not even depend on that

If Boris can't get say 115 votes then in theory rishi could easily lend enough votes to mourdant to ensure she is in the final two at which point she withdraws

Will be interesting to see if that happens because if it does your going to have Johnson plus about 50 conservatives calling for a ge as well... thats enough to win the vote with the opposition

Is vote lending permitted?

As crap as Liss Truss was, she wasn't as bad as Boris because with him comes crap like Nadine Dories who'll again look to sell off channel 4.

The sad thing is it is going to be Boris. Mourdant doesn't have a chance, and when the vote goes to the party members there'll only be one winner. Which is a shame because Sunak actually has some good ideas, economy aside, like on tackling the NHS waiting list.

I reckon Johnson’s plan is to do a deal to concede on the basis the investigations into him are finished.

I think the longer Boris stays silent, the more confident we should be of him not hitting the threshold.

He’d never want to suffer the humiliation of running and then not getting the 100 needed, so if he stays quiet and doesn’t he can just claim he’s back doing the job of an MP.

If he announces, he’ll already have the 100 in the bag.
