Westminster Politics

She must think she has nothing to lose. This parliament can't pass wind, not to talk of passing a brexit agreement.
Thinking again. Another GE forces Corbyn into a corner. He's won't get away with trying to campaign without talking about brexit. Coming out for brexit or another vote could cost Labour some marginal seats.
Thought this was a interesting take

Interesting

She would in theory at least get the votes of 2/3 MP's I think...

I wonder if she thinks she has a better chance of winning an election than she does of surviving conference

That's a grim outlook for someone to have.

Apparently, these are her 'selling-points':

1. 'She's not Johnson/Gove/Rees-Mogg/Corbyn'.
2. 'She's admirably bloody-minded'.

Jesus...

Don't understand why Corbyn's stance on Brexit hasn't put more people off him. I think the labour bounce in Scotland will have worn off if another election happens. Don't see it ending well for Labour.

Looking like labour are warming towards a second referendum ,Even though Corbyn would prefer it settled in an Election ,it will be put to a vote at the Party conference.

Corbyn in one the most brutal and excruciating political interviews that I can remember in a long time. It's no wonder he doesn't do much telly.

Possibly but she won't get a deal she can get through parliament so she's as good as gone... Either then or even before hand at conference (because a defeat there pretty much halts negotiations and guarantees the hard brexit some in her party want)... So yeah perhaps an election and a new perceived mandate for checkers or no deal is her best bet of a political future... I guess the gaming out of scenarios is would enough brexit MP's back her if the proposition was chequers or no deal and gamble that the EU would pick no deal...

As I say perhaps more chance of that than getting through conference

A National Disgrace

Welfare spending for UK's poorest shrinks by £37bn
Frank Field MP said:
"A £37bn attack has been mounted on the living standards of many of our fellow citizens to such an extent that possibly millions struggle to keep on top of their rent, pay the bills and buy adequate food".

“Likewise, an unknown number are unable to clothe their children properly before sending them to school where all too many of these children not only rely on free school dinners as a cornerstone of their diet, but on breakfast and supper clubs as well.”

Quite ironic that Field is trying to ensure that trend continues.

Solid speech by May at the UN right now.

Certainly a lot better than during any campaign speech I saw or her speeches on brexit.

Sky showing it right now.

Christ, what a shit show.

Jeremy in the Hunt for Theresa May’s job

Foreign Secretary’s odds of becoming next Tory Leader shortening fast

Tuesday 2nd October 2018 – As big as 14/1 when Theresa May entered Brexit negotiations in Salzburg last month, Jeremy Hunt is now just 6/1 with Betway to be the next Leader of the Conservative Party.

The leading online bookmaker cut the Foreign Secretary to 10/1 at the start of last week, but, despite being rebuked by Theresa May for likening the European Union to Soviet Russia, further support saw his odds shorten again to 7/1 last night before hitting 6/1 this morning.

Boris Johnson is out to 11/2 from 4/1, joint in the betting with Sajid Javid to replace May.

Betway’s Alan Alger said: "Jeremy Hunt's powerful responses to the EU in the wake of the Salzburg summit and his performance in recent press engagements have seen him gather much support with punters to be the next Tory leader.

“While Boris Johnson continues to make headlines for quips rather than policy, current Foreign Secretary Hunt has shortened significantly in the betting and could well be the clear favourite to replace May before too long.”

It's depressing isn't it. Thing is they are as dangerous as they are stupid and you can only see the party lurching even further right.

Even scarier thing about Boris is that he's popular with the masses. Very comparable to Trump.

As a centre-lefty I'd welcome that long term, a bigger hole to fill and all, but it just wouldn't be worth the damage.
I'm not as I'm pretty centre, right on some things, left on others, but all I've got is hard right, hard right, unelectable Lib Dem options.

I mean we wouldn't would we :nervous:

I mean if our public vote Brexit, May, then Boris/Hunt then I'm all for giving back all the power to Queenie.

we wouldnt have to
all he needs is sufficient MP's to send letters to conservative HQ saying they have no faith in May and then fight her in a conservative election
There is 124,000 conservative members they alone will decide who the next PM is... personally I think Mogg has a decent chance of getting the members votes if he stands

I can't remember which way around it is, but the candidates also have to get past their fellow MPs as well. I'd be surprised if the majority of Tory MPs are so detached from reality to ever think that JRM is a good choice. Likewise Boris.

That said, it's the same question that must be posed whenever anyone wants rid of Corbyn - who are the viable alternatives?

Actually they only need 3 mps.
one to propose them and two to second them

The whole process is explained very well here
http://theconversation.com/theresa-mays-brexit-crisis-how-to-oust-a-tory-leader-99704

but if 15% of MPs send letters to the chairman of the 1922 committee than there is a confidence vote - if may looses she is out and can not stand for re-election

Then with the 3 mps backing any MP can stand
If only one stands then they are declared the winner
If only 2 stand then its straight to the membership for a vote
If more than 2 stand there are a series of votes eliminating one MP each round till only 2 are left then its to the members for a vote

That last bit is what I meant, if there are many standing, which you'd expect, then MPs whittle it down to two.

Blairites .May will be opening her arms to you at the party conference.
