Westminster Politics

Oh right. So the new tactic if you can't prorogue parliament is to to be such a complete cnut to everyone that they just don't come in.

Someone put an end to this tit and his gormless sycophants.

Our prime minister is being a cnut and goading if you don't like it get rid of me. That's what politics has become.

Boris Johnson’s performance today was a national disgrace. Unacceptable! No matter what your political persuasion is, this kind of behaviour from a PM cannot be condoned.

What's a national disgrace is the will of 17.4m people being ignored!

(Rinse and repeat)

They’re all traitors in the parliament and high courts. Shooting is too good for them and Joe Cox was an ugly bitch anyway. Zieg Heil!!

Honestly, I mean anyone who backs Johnson should be ashamed of themselves. What is feckin wrong with people?!?! Even Thatcher will be turning in her grave.

I disagreed with pretty much everything Thatcher stood for but she was an excellent politician and respected the office which she held.

Boris is a charlatan. The sooner he is gone the better, though I fear another charlatan will simply take his place.

Jacob Rees-Mogg just promised “an exciting announcement” for tomorrow, and paraphrased the PM’s infamous “what’s sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander” line - which originally referred to equal treatment of the Tory MPs who might vote down a new deal and the Tory rebels who lost their whip for defying the government a few weeks ago.
?

New Rupert the Bear tv series?

Government calling a confidence motion in themselves?
Or prorouge again?
I'd guess calling a confidence motion in themselves

If they do, it puts the other parties in a shitty position. Imagine having to vote that you have confidence in the jackass who was just found to have acted unlawfully by the highest court in the land

Such a bizarre situation all round. Government wanting to lose a VONC, and an opposition not wanting to pass it. We live in interesting times..

She shouldn't be using Jo Cox like that IMHO.

She was asking him to stop using language that keeps being repeated in death threats to her and her colleagues. Why wouldn’t she mention a former colleague who was actually murdered to emphasize the point that death threats don’t always stop at just being threats?

He may not, but given his circumstances, I think BJ's bossed it tonight. Despite tonnes of ammo, opposition have barely laid a glove on him.

I doubt he has lost even one voter tonight, and many will have been inspired by his bullish resoluteness. He has certainly been getting personal populism 101 tuition from Trump/Bannon, and anything he says is purely for his base. Ditto AG Cox from this morning.

Anyways, its all moot and won't matter once GE campaigning starts.

I think I've got this wrong. Think BJ's "humbug" remark was off the cuff, and is rebounding in uncontrollable and unintended ways ....

Emily Maitlis was like a rottweiler with a tory MP on Newnight, and Twitter is full of genuine outrage. Seems many tories are also turning ...

Nick Boles MP is a former Conservative and now independent Member of Parliament for Grantham and Stamford.

Tory majority is pretty much guaranteed if Johnson stays, isn't it?

He's useless, he's an idiot, he's dangerous, he's a coward and he's unfit for the position. But all of the Leave supporters will vote for him because he was "getting Brexit done" and everyone who is sickened by his shit will split their votes between Labour, SNP and Lib Dem.

Depends. It’s a lot blurrier than it used to be, but there’s still a decency line for most people. He may have just leapt across it.

I disagree with the language being used. Dictator just demonstrates laziness and the use of soundbites.

It's the same with Johnson's usage of surrender act.

Can anyone say that today, anything has been achieved in the commons beyond hurling abuse at each other?
Boris isn't a dictator, but it was the move of a dictator by Boris. Fortunately we don't live in a dictatorship. His language now though is incredibly dangerous and comes straight out of the Trump playbook which, as we all have seen, leads to extremism and violence. That's what makes me worried about all of this. His reckless behaviour is going to get someone hurt.

Yeah, you're right. Let me rephrase; some Leavers will vote for him and I'm concerned that's it's enough to be more than those who are left split their votes.

Unless Corbyn plays a blinding election campaign it'll be tough. Right now I vote Labour in the UK Gen and SNP in the Scottish elections (and my constituency is historically the same. It would be SNP completely were it not for all the things Gordon Brown did when he was our MP) but it's waning.

Tonight's rumours:

*ERG and/or DUP to push for VONC.
*Possible censure of Johnson...or even impeachment.

I wouldn't even dignify that tweet with a response.

How does that play out? Never knew we had 'impeachment' in UK.
Dunno, mate, sorry.
