It’s even worse though, when you think about it. As bad as Cameron was in terms of austerity and his gamble on the EU referendum, he was still very socially liberal for a Tory. I honestly can’t see Starmer doing anything as progressive as gay marriage, because he’s terrified of how it will play in the ‘red wall’.
That was the Lib Dem influence, and it was/is where the UK is at socially so amending the legislation to reflect that is an easy thing to do.
