Westminster Politics 2024-2029

Rwanda policy scrapped on day 1 and hardly a peep from either side (considering how much attention it took up). Seems like everyone is happy it's gone.

It was against international law and would never have happened under whoever was in charge (who was sane).

There's no way Starmer's going to break international law.

Have you not been reading the threads....Labour got lucky and it's not a huge victory. They are hanging by a thread and Hunt could win big as leader in a few years time.

Yes, he could, if Starmer cannot stop the boats ...completely!

However, will Hunt be prepared to take on the challenge of vying for the Tory leadership, if e.g. Starmer is seen to be following his recent PM predecessors and failing in what is now becoming seen as a British PM's 'test of strength'... or will that herculean task of slaying the dragon-boats fall to Farage?... tune in twelve months from now to find out the answer. ;)

As hateful as Hunt is, he's not a nutter like Cruella. He's very capable and good at being a minister. Cruella is just shit at everything and nasty to boot. I saw Jenrick this morning and he looks like a snake of a man. They really are having to scrape the bottom of the barrel.

I suspect there's some in the NHS who might disagree

Promising ministerial appointments. Refreshing to see expertise in the cabinet. Cautiously optimistic about this.
I didn't realise until now that the new Business Secretary is part of the Co-op Party and Unite the Union. Pro workers and green energy, as well as responsible capitalism. I'm actually surprised by this as it seems like the sort of move Corbyn would've made (and he would've been massacred by the Mail for it).

Edit: his Wiki is interesting if any of you care - the word "socialist" crops up a lot. I forgot he was one of Corbyn's guys so it doesn't look like Starmer has really truly shut that part of the party out. Keep it coming.

He clearly said boats brainwashing and I challenge you to find a single boat that has been subjected to conversion therapy or radicalisation since Starmer stepped into post.
You're like the J.K Rowling of the boat world

I hadn't seen that much of Jenrick until today, he's got complete cnut of the first degree written all over him. I'm off to see what his odds are.

Also he abstained on the Gaza ceasefire vote.

He stabbed little Rishi in the back. He's absolutely shameless and so will probably go far.

I'm guessing he will position himself slightly to the left of Suella but the substance and content will be much the same.

I know a few people who've met Kemi and they've said that she's pretty thick. I don't think she's good enough on media either.

Jonathan Reynolds is a key man for Starmer, his background is a solid as you can get in the idiom of working people. Reynolds also knows that the brand of Socialism that relies on 'storming the bastille' type actions is doomed.

Reynolds has to persuade, both business and the unions to back Starmer especially in this first year, or even this first term; this will be one of the toughest jobs in cabinet as the whole Labour enterprise depends on growth and business and unions working in tandem. There will lots of 'voices off' pleading to be put first, that will try to shout loudest, but they will have to wait their turn until the 'cake' gets big enough.

I suspect Jonathan Reynolds understands what is required and what he will be up against.... he is also a rattling good constituency MP.

What is this positivity? You’ll be quoted later, oh you’ll be quoted alright

Boats still exist

Starmer out

On the contrary.
England beating Switzerland on penalties and Lewis Hamilton winning the British GP.
He promised us change and has already delivered.

But if England lose to Holland, all bets are off

I'm sure they merely meant he should go back to Southampton, which is 168 miles away from Clacton. He's not local like Nigel "128 miles away from Clacton, until he fecks off to America again for the rest of the year" Farage.

I mean, there's surely not another reason why these knuckle dragging dipshits would have a problem with a well dressed black guy who's done better than they have? Surely?

I forgot what it’s like to have a government that actually does something, or at least pretends to.

The online Left shocked and surprised at this

Except he did not. Did you just copy the tweet or did you read the article? They talked about an urgent need for a ceasefire, he did not call on to bring an immediate ceasefire, and also, there is nothing in the article that say it is permanent. It is gaslighting.

So we're back to the humanitarian pause vs ceasefire talk

Oh...

It is gaslighting
 "gaslighting"

Is this part gaslighting as well, or is there another Reddit buzzword that someone else wants to use incorrectly for dramatic effect?

Palestinian statehood is ‘undeniable right’ in peace process, says Starmer
Recognition of the state of Palestine as part of a Middle East peace process is an “undeniable right”, Sir Keir Starmer told Mahmoud Abbas.

The Prime Minister spoke to the Palestinian president on Sunday about the “ongoing suffering and devastating loss of life” in Gaza.

Labour’s election manifesto committed the party to recognising a Palestinian state as part of a process that results in a two-state solution alongside Israel.

A Downing Street spokeswoman said: “The Prime Minister updated President Abbas on his immediate priorities, including securing a ceasefire, the return of hostages, an increase and acceleration in humanitarian aid and financial support for the Palestinian Authority.

“Discussing the importance of reform, and ensuring international legitimacy for Palestine, the Prime Minister said that his longstanding policy on recognition to contribute to a peace process had not changed, and it was the undeniable right of Palestinians.”
