Awful first touch throughout. The difference in first touch alone between and Zlatan/Mata/Mkhitaryan and Rooney yesterday was so depressing to watch. Was screaming in the pub for him to be replaced. Then of course, he scored and for a change, people were actually saying, "Wish it'd been anyone but him" to hasten Jose's dropping of Rooney.

What's infuriating is that Mkhitaryan looked just so much better once he came on. Right now, there are at least 2 better options than Rooney for every position he could ostensibly play in. That's why he needs to go.

Just managed to see his post match interview. Loved it. Its about time we saw some arrogance from him. He might not be the same player he once was, but he's won more or less everything there is to win at club level. He should big himself up more. There's players out there who do so and theyve not done half of what Rooney's done. Fair play to you, Wazz.
It's not really the best time for arrogance when your spot is genuinely under threat because of your poor form that's lasted years now. I think a problem a lot of people have with it is it seems to be continuing the trend of taking no notice of or responsibility for his own poor form.

I've been wanting to ask, I see a lot 'Zlatan, Mata, Herrera touches Vs whoever' videos, why don't I ever see any about Rooney? Someone should please get on and post here to save us pages of arguments against ridiculous claims like that dispossessed 0 times stat someone posted after the CS game, or how *insert players name* was worse. Would be a good laugh too

Lmao I thought I was the only one. How can all these high profile players have fanboys, who will edit their touch compllations but not one for Rooney?!

Has he paid off all those youtube channels?!

I wonder how much Rooney paid Danny Murphy to say he had a great game on MOTD

Danny Murphy just said he thought Rooney was superb

EDIT: Oh, I'm pretty late

He was good today. Miles better than Herrera who was getting his arse-licked in his performance thread. The Rooney-bashing was justified last week but people who stick to it when it clearly isn't deserved need to pipe down. Just because he isn't as good as he was doesn't mean he is shit. If he was a new signing last season scoring goals like Roo did against Swansea, Derby and Newcastle and the winner at Anfield..people would be very impressed.

If all Rooney's bad touches are edited then there'll be little else to show I guess.
It's weird though, i've seen about 2 videos of Ibra already, a pre season game and the CS game, all his touches, good and bad. The Rooney fanbois would just rather pull up stats like 90% pass accuracy and 0 dispossession. If someone could compile a video of Rooney's touches from the last 2 games against all these players who were supposedly worse than him there'll be no more arguments here

That's the worst post I've read today. In no way shape or form was he good today, and certainly not better than Herrera.

He was good today.

Nah, he really wasnt good, not at all. His performance wasnt even decent, but he scored which is the positive and took his goal well.
And he certainly wasnt Superb as Murphy put it.

Murphy defo didnt watch the match to say that. Or clearly friends with Wayne.

Well you're clueless. Herrera wasn't bad but he lost it too often...as usual.

He wasn't superb and I also don't get why the media still act like he is in his prime.

Post match interview. He was asked if he had it all to prove this season with the new signings coming in (was an easy question, I'm sure that the interviewer expected him to say "yes") but he said something like "no, I've got nothing to prove" in a bit of an aggressive manner.

Im not surprised smh

It has nothing to do with Van Gaal ffs. Van Gaal didn't tell him to possess the first touch of a pub player and play with the speed of a sack of potatoes.
Try re reading the conversation, I'm talking about the sideways and backward passing

Ah, my bad. Still think it goes hand in hand, there's a lot of opportunities he has a forward pass on, but just doesn't have the speed or touch to play it.

I dont see anything wrong with him saying he has nothing to prove. I assume if Zlatan was asked the question and gave the response, we would talk about the confidence etc.

My problem is that hes playing so much and thats up to the manager to address that.

The Rooney apologists make me sick, they're as deluded as Ty from Arsenal fan TV is, but then again, even if he didnt play well, he contributed today with a goal and deserves some credit for that. Still don't think he should be a starter though.

Before the game, Sky finally got the memo and broke ranks, gave him a relative slagging off (it was mild but the first time I've seen the media hint that he's not playing well and is unbalancing the squad) - Redknapp in particular went for him, as opposed to Gaz who was very quiet, was great to see. Might have been in response to that.

He scored today, which is good. He lost the ball cheaply, generally took the safe option in passing and broke down quite a few of our attacks (more than Bournemouth managed in all likelihood), which is bad.

Hopefully he gets his record #of goals and then goes away. Still deserves respect for his service, but usually legends know when their time is up and leave.

Crikey all mighty :wenger::lol:

The comment bothers me a bit. At a club like ours, every player has to prove their worth in nearly every match. Sir Alex always set the squad up as a competition for game time. We can't just give someone a free pass to the starting XI based on past glory. At this stage of his career, Rooney has everything to prove. If he can't admit that to himself, he's in for a rough ride.

It's not arrogance if he can't back it up with his performances. Just delusion.

Everyone's spot is under threat every season. Why just ask Rooney, who time and time has proved himself, regardless of who he has played under? I can see why he answered in such a manager. It's a stupid question anyway, in my opinion. They should be asking players who haven't done everything in the game or for United.

He was also right about what he said about his goals. Have a a look at his record. As he said, put him in forward positions, and he'll score goals, which is a very underrated trait. He could gave had about three yesterday, which, to me, are signs that he's getting in the right areas and is threatening.

Four more to go, Wayne.

:D

Danny Murphy is on the take.
Called Bailly's performance last week, haphazard. Called Rooney superb yesterday.

Never, in my 23 years of following football, have I come across a man so ignorant in relation to his short comings :D I actually applaud him for it.

"So Wayne, not one of your best games, in fact, one of your worst"
"Eh obviously it wasn't great but, obviously, I'm Wayne Rooney and obviously I've nothing to prove, obviously"

Mourinho will get shot soon enough. No way he's leaving Rashers and big Mickey to rot

Rooney is the mafia. All these TV pundits and personalities are getting extorted to keep his name clean. Its the only logical explanation for me.

I hate him and all the pundits for it. Rio tweeted something like 'Rooney, still auditioning I see'.

So I am just getting into bed to watch the game. Had a bit of a skim through the last 10 pages. I am expecting one of the most diabolical performances and for Rooney to barely control a single ball, barely complete any attacking passes and arse a chuffy goal in from absolutely nothing. We'll see how this goes.

Watch also Coutinho and Mane vs Arsenal and come here to say that United do not deserve to have a better player than Rooney in their first XI because he is still up there with the best.

Not the best game from him. But he did score and had 2 or 3 other great chances. Top strikers always say that if you get in the right positions to score goals, you have done well. If he was sharper in his finishing he could have had a hat trick. He should have had another in the first half (passed it into the keepers arms) and could have done a lot better with the chance Ibra created for him with the back heel flick.

Also did well with his passing, although he could have done much better. But he wasnt our worst player as some here are suggesting.

Edit: Just noticed the banner: 2 games - 1 Goal - 1 assist - 4.3 average rating :wenger:
I get that hating Rooney is the vogue these days, but that is just ridiculous.
