Ozil has 3 telling touches a game, and nothing but a spectator for the rest of the game. But hey, if Rooney has 3 telling touches a game and does nothing rest of the game, that's again unacceptable.
I'd rather have Roo on the pitch snarling, cussing, giving as good as he takes, than have him decaying on the bench....
Huge credit to him for proving so many who've posted on here the past couple of years that they know even less about what talent and ability is than they know about formations, tactics and square pegs in round holes.
So doing well in an EFL cup game against West Ham nullifies all his terrible games these past few years?
He has to produce this kind of performance on a weekly basis. And he hasn't managed that for many, many years.
Really like the current Rooney. I like that he's improving as thr season goes on. If he ever reaches even 60-70% of his peak, he'd be the best player in the league
Spending time on that bench is what contributed to him gaining some form. It's like he realized (just like he always should have) that he isn't guaranteed a starting place anymore and has to work for it.I'd rather have Roo on the pitch snarling, cussing, giving as good as he takes, than have him decaying on the bench....

Yes i do. Who's yhe current league best player? Hazard? I think Rooney at his peak is twice Hazard is.You really believe that ?
You did say 60-70% of his peak. I think the league's best player is De Bruyne or Aguero.Yes i do. Who's yhe current league best player? Hazard? I think Rooney at his peak is twice Hazard is.

He was playing badly, now he's playing well. People who pointed out that he was playing badly before haven't become retrospectively wrong.
He was unfit, unmotivated and complacent. Fair play he's turned it around these last few matches, let's hope it continues.Agreed(ish)....He hasn't played as well as he should have / could have the past couple of years, but I blame Moyes and Van Gaal far more than I blame Rooney.
RVP, Chicharito, and Rooney all looked awful in the strikers role while these two were in charge...Even Ibrahimovic has looked poor when JM has set up defensively - Liverpool, Chelsea etc. And Martial looked much, much better when switched to LW during the second half of last year....
Tactics, not the players, have been the problem for our strikers far more than Rooney's perceived loss of form....
That too. Both elements have done him good.More likely he's now playing the kind of minutes his body can handle.
LvG had him playing a stupid amount of games, he probably got more rest as a 24 year old.
Sweet Moses he was seething wasn't he. A wrecking ball on a mission.
If he combined that fury with a little bit more maturity that he now has, he could still be such an important player for United.
You know, if I was José, I'd take the captaincy from him and just give him a free role of a winger/destroyer/inside forward and literally just remind him 'you've got a few years left playing - so leave your fecking mark now, don't hold anything back'.
He needs to play on edge, he needs to feel like his back's against the wall, cuz when he does he comes alive as a player again and it's fecking beautiful.
He was my MOTM against West Ham, and there was a moment when he chased down their keeper from about the halfway line and pressed him and it gave me goosebumps seeing that passion back after literally years.
That single-mindedness he has when he plays like that is a rare quality in any athlete, and it transfers into the crowd. This is what made Rooney such a great player, raw talent and pure, undiluted fury.
I'm actually excited for his next game with us, and that's not something I thought I would feel again.
Credit to José for not just managing the situation, but for actually (hopefully) reviving the old Rooney, the REAL Rooney.
Imagine having that Rooney in our current team
True wrecking ball he was. Unbridled rage when on the pitch.
I agree with the most but doubt that taking away his captaincy would motivate him even more and it wouldn't be taken kindly by general public as well.
If he can keep this type of performances constantly, he'll again find himself being an important member of UTD.
Absolute destroyer he was. That look on Sagna's face after Rooney tackled him says it all.
No Wayne - no joy, but this time it is his fault, too many stupid cards. I was actually stunned he got his 5-th booking and almost like 4 of them were for unsporting behavior.
No Wayne - no joy.
I did not mean the defeat itself, sorry on a second read it does looks like i am blaming him for it. But i meant that him not making the starting line-up is his fault. After a couple of good games i think he might have been expecting to return to the starting line-up in PL and Jose i think this time would have picked him, but Rooney was disqualified and because of mostly stupid, worthless yellow cars.Bloody hell

Well it's obvious for most of the fans apart from usual overzealous rooney haters that Wayne actually was quite good in the last games and he provided the needed coherence for our attacking unit that we severely lacked today.Came in to see what possible reason there was for this thread to be active. Disturbing flashbacks to our time in the newbies.
No Rashford - No joy
No Smalling - No joy
No solar eclipse - No joy
No logic in the Rooney thread.
I like him too, if it's yellow cards for tackling and stuff. YC for shouting at ref are stupid. Well, yes, a one or two is okay, it is a by-product or a result of aggression. But he had way too many "frivolous" booking in my opinion.I like Rooney who picks up yellow cards. More aggressive and more lively.
Do we? Our good option only managed one goal today. And that was a total fluke. All this "sitting back and defend" aside, were you actually happy with our attacking game in this game? Only first half or whatever. I think we were poor.We are pretty much have good options there, so missing Rooney for one game but can still play like this shouldn't be a big problem if only we don't sit back and defend a 1-0 lead like tonight.

If you ask would we have better chances of winning today's game with Rooney in his current form on the pitch i think most of reasonable fans would have answered yes.

Bring him back vs Spurs. 4-2-3-1. Drop Herrera, push Pogba back
We need to play the same team as against West Ham in the cup. We keep thrashing teams in the cup then making changes in the next match. There is no logic to it unless obviously a player is suspended. Don't think there's any suspensions for the next league match so it has to be done. Then again Pogba will never be dropped so it won't happen. He'll play midweek but I don't know who he'll start instead of vs Spurs. He deserves a spot but it looks like Martial and Mkhi will play for now so that leaves one of the 3 mids to be dropped.
Exactly Pogba definitely comes in so for Rooney to play Herrera or Carrick will have to sit it out.We need to play the same team as against West Ham in the cup.
