Wait, is that Keane's beard?

It fecking suits him!! Go score some goals to

You'd honestly have forgotten what a player he is capable of being. On his day he has everything, vision, movement, finishing, grit and even great defensive asset. If this continues it'll be huge for our season.

He even looked much quicker last night.

Long may it continue, legend in every sense of the word.

Well played Rooney, credit where it is deserved. He had a good game and looked very positive throughout. Liked how he tried to look for throughballs and passes forward and did not slow down the play at all!

The media humiliation of Rooney for that wedding booze up is probably the best thing to happen to him in years. He's got something to prove now, he's angry and that always brings out the best in him.

Long may it continue.

Absolutely deserving to start after these last few games, what a complete turnaround. Fair play, and I've changed my mind about him for now.

He's responded to the criticism and being dropped as you would hope. Of course now we'll be back to people wanting him to start every game, which would lead us to the same problem again in the near future, but hopefully Jose will continue to rotate him.

I've been (very) critical of him and highly annoyed with him for years, and I was convinced he was done, so I really didn't expect that performance from him last night. It was like watching a completely different player, and I'd forgotten how much I've missed that version of Rooney. It was great to watch.

It's definitely given me some hope that he still has something to offer to this team. Here's hoping he can build on it.

I think people are missing the point. The reason why Rooney is doing better now is because the team is playing better overall. That we are creating chances and scoring more goals for the first time since since Ferguson has left, elevates players performance in the eyes of the viewer.

But also his touch is much better, he plays it faster and seems to be fitter. It has a lot to do with him and Jose did the right thing in putting him under pressure and drop him

Nah, he is actually doing a lot better. Earlier his touch was way off and he was slow weak and looked heavy and unfit. He looks thinner now, and is without a doubt way quicker and his touch and passing is was sharper. Like its incomparable to before, and its not just team performance. He had sub appearances recently where he looked alright even though the performances were meh. Its mostly down to him.

Rooney does not seem in better "shape" now than a few months ago, to me. I find it strange how people often use it to back up their negative/positive points about him when it has hardly changed since he started playing for us.

His touch, vision, passing, awareness and determination seems much better than the start of the season, though.

Thought he was class last night. Great touch which is something he has badly lacked in recent times. Surely there must be one of those 90 min individual touches videos about ?

Caf's agenda: Rooney is a lazy footballer, who does nothing but drink. All he cares for is money, and not fans or the club and is a traitor. He has zero self-motivation, hunger, desire to win games for the sides he plays because he did not single-handedly win trophies under Moyes. He is finished although aging and going out-of-form is natural to all except Rooney - so instead of "managing" him, we should ship him to China.

Reality: Rooney is not as driven as players who had similar talent as teenagers (Ronaldo and Messi). He realizes the worth of his brand and bargained for a deal that the club was comfortable paying without going bankrupt. Irrespective of form and fitness, he is almost always in the top 3 or 4 most motivated players in the team because he wants to win games. Since the previous managers played him every game, he managed himself through most of the games, which meant compromising on his biggest strengths - pace and aggression.

Aggressive Rooney is the only Rooney worth having, the English press neutered him and told him to tone it down and he slowly regressed as such. Now the same press has piled in on him after the drinking fiasco to tell him he's done and the fires are stoked again. He's looking as good as he ever has since 2010. Either that or he's one of his purple patches I suppose.

his team mates were not responsible for terrible touch and mis placed passes. He's playing with a different mind set at the moment, and clearly been pissed off with events off the field

Nah those videos only come when he misplaces two passes to Zlatan

Eh? So his performances in those early games were something you'd deem acceptable from a professional footballer?

Oh, okay.

If there is it's not being shared with half as much enthusiasm as those videos of all his worst moments from earlier in the season.

I'd like to see such a video and I'd be grateful if someone helps by posting it here. I missed the first 8-10 min., maybe he did something really special then.

Compared to what he's been like over the last few years, his performances was impressive. That's not debatable. But this must be an average performance for a No 10 of one of the biggest clubs in the world. Compared to what Hazard, Coutinho, Özil and KDB show at their best, it's hardly spectacular. The expectations and the standards have fallen dramatically. It was a good performance in an open game at OT vs a weakened team with a defence that has been amongst the worst in the PL this season.

He has reached a point where him missing through suspension wont hurt us as much as it would have in the past.
I'm all for "angry Rooney" returning full time. Don't care if he picks up bookings and a few red cards. He can be Jose's attack dog on the pitch..
Will probably instil some fight into the rest of the squad as well.. Some of the players seem pretty soft.
Bring it on.

As good as Mata is, Rooney will be pushing him really hard for his place if he performs as he did on Wednesday. Best I've seen him play for a long time. Was brilliant.

Just gonna put this here…

Sweet Moses he was seething wasn't he. A wrecking ball on a mission.

If he combined that fury with a little bit more maturity that he now has, he could still be such an important player for United.

You know, if I was José, I'd take the captaincy from him and just give him a free role of a winger/destroyer/inside forward and literally just remind him 'you've got a few years left playing - so leave your fecking mark now, don't hold anything back'.

He needs to play on edge, he needs to feel like his back's against the wall, cuz when he does he comes alive as a player again and it's fecking beautiful.

He was my MOTM against West Ham, and there was a moment when he chased down their keeper from about the halfway line and pressed him and it gave me goosebumps seeing that passion back after literally years.

That single-mindedness he has when he plays like that is a rare quality in any athlete, and it transfers into the crowd. This is what made Rooney such a great player, raw talent and pure, undiluted fury.

I'm actually excited for his next game with us, and that's not something I thought I would feel again.

Credit to José for not just managing the situation, but for actually (hopefully) reviving the old Rooney, the REAL Rooney.

We need to kick him in the face more often. Perhaps that should be Zlatan's warm up ritual

Ozil has 3 telling touches a game, and nothing but a spectator for the rest of the game. But hey, if Rooney has 3 telling touches a game and does nothing rest of the game, that's again unacceptable.
