Our cup teams are probably better than our league ones anyway

I very much doubt it, the teams we play against in the cups at OT and the rules of the cup games suit better Jose's tactics. Away from OT we've been shit in the cups too.

Too early to be heralded as a saviour, despite upturn in fkr. Has looked shite in the prem this season. Will return to poor form if he is comfortable and returns to 'nothing to prove' Rooney.

Better in cup games but that's mostly been against poor/weakened opposition.

Would rather Mata slot in behind Ibra, flanked by Martial and Mkhi. 2 out if Carrick/Pogba/Herrera behind.

Games Rooney has started:
H - West Ham Nov 30, 2016 CC W 4-1
H - Feyenoord Nov 24, 2016 Europa W 4-0
A - Swansea Nov 6, 2016 Prem W 1-3
A - Fenerbahce Nov 3, 2016 Europa L 2-1
A - Watford Sep 18, 2016 Prem L 3-1
H - Man City Sep 10, 2016 Prem L 1-2
A - Hull Aug 27, 2016 Prem W 0-1
H - Southampton Aug 19, 2016 Prem W 2-0
A - Bournemouth Aug 14, 2016 Prem W 1-3

Played 9, won 6, drawn 0, lost 3, scored 18

Games Rooney hasn't started:
A - Everton Dec 4, 2016 Prem 1-1
H - West Ham Nov 27, 2016 Prem D 1-1
H - Arsenal Nov 19, 2016 Prem D 1-1
H - Burnley Oct 29, 2016 Prem D 0-0
A - Chelsea Oct 23, 2016 Prem L 4-0
A - Liverpool Oct 17, 2016 Prem D 0-0
H - Stoke Oct 2, 2016 Prem D 1-1
H - FC Zorya Luh Sep 29, 2016 Europa W 1-0
H - Leicester Sep 24, 2016 Prem W 4-1
A - Feyenoord Sep 15, 2016 Europa L 1-0

Played 10, won 2, drawn 6, lost 2, scored 9 (two of those were from Rooney assists after coming on).

I do think Rooney adds a directness that's missing when he isn't there. A goal/assist every 93 minutes is testament to that.

When Zlatan is up top, we play a lot of balls to him in the air and hope he can lay them off. The problem is that he's a bit slow and the players around him aren't suited to making clever runs into the box.

We've scored 4 goals without Rooney since September and 2 of those goals were actually assisted by Rooney after he came on.

I don't see much belief or conviction from most of our other players. During most attacks it looks like the players are going through the motions and don't really expect to score.

However shit you think Rooney is, he forces the play forward. We need him, or at least someone like him in terms of character. Mkhitaryan may be that man, but he has to prove it still.

Ibrahimovic plays because he scores, but he also hurts our approach play imo. Rooney seems to be the only one who can negate that through his directness. We missed him today.

I've wanted Rooney dropped for a few weeks, but at the moment I reckon he deserves to be a starter again.

Needs to tell the England circus to do one, and concentrate on becoming a Giggs/Scholes like senior squad player who can help win games when he starts, and contribute from the bench when he doesn't.

Some people have put his improved form over the last few weeks down to the kick up the arse of being dropped. And I think that probably has something to do with it.

But his legs now have nearly 15 years of top class football in them, and it could just be that they simply aren't able to produce that level week in, week out anymore.

He plays better when he's rested and fresh, to put it simply.

Zorya 0:2 Man Utd
can't believe he is still in the club:lol: this was one shocker of a performance. I mean the conditions are not the best but this is totally unacceptable. can't wait he is out of this club, this is really annoying to see him getting minutes he doesn't deserve at the expense of actual football players

Letting that ball run out looked much worse in real time than it actually was, he wasn't too slow for it, he simply misjudged it and thought he had more time. Not going to judge him today in those conditions so anything positive he does is a plus.

Beard power only lasted one game. Maybe it's time he goes full sasquatch?

"He wasn't too slow for it, he just completely fecked it up"

No words for posters like you.

feck off and show a bit of respect. Everyone knew this was a hard European away game why judge his performance on this?

That's the thing about Rooney these days, he misjudges a lot of things.
He was really bad this game. Would be interesting to know how often he touched the ball.

one of the shittest first half performances form a united player in the history of this football club and he doesnt deserve criticism, he's had oen good game in three years just last week, he shouldnt be in the club for a long time, get a grip, I am a fan of a club not a single player, it's absolute clear that he is holding us back big time because no matter what he had to paly because of his name and SAF was right with all the palyers who outgrew the club as he was with rooney, Fortunately he's so shit these days that it became apparent even to his biggest fans and friends in media that he's not good enough for this club anymore...

What annoys me that he steals minutes to palyers who could develop or be played into form, name any player [here]

Maybe because as a "supposed" elite player he still should offer plenty against the might of opposition we were faced with.

How dare we judge his performance? Is he now above critique then?

Was pretty bad, but that pitch didn't do anyone favors.

Let's see how he does next game.

Decent performance, nothing special like most players on the pitch.
I am just glad he is on the pitch occasionally rather than rotting away on the sidelines.

Didn't play well. Still I wouldn't think that's the end of his good form, at leaste hopefully not, because everyone was poor, tricky game against a parked bus on a pitch more suited to ice hockey. I don't think anyone came out with much credit aside from two individual pieces of class, that pass from Pogba and that run from Mkhi we were poor.

He's not above critique whatsoever, I just think judging him on this game is stupid. And people wishing him out the club based on this performance is also stupid.

He deserves more than be ushered out of the club on an away game against Zorya people need to get a grip.

There's a difference between judging his perfomance or being an idiot and laughing in in face wishing him out the club. Some of our fans need to grow up and support our team rather than jump on our players backs as soon as possible.

Wasn't especially poor but struggled to get in the game apart from that nice movement for Mkhitaryan's goal.

The ironing is so strong, man.

Anyway, you have to agree that this performance isn't an isolated one; but has been his trend for the last 2-3 yrs. He's been an unreliable player to put decent performance weeks in weeks out.

Speaking of which, I still hope Jose can turn him to be something useful, though. Just because he won't go nowhere at least this season.

So his thinking was too slow? He was too slow for about a gazillion other attempts as well; how do you explain those?

People said he was the Messiah reborn after two good performances, so he was judged on those as well. I think it therefore fair to judge him equally when he plays shit, like he did today.

It seemed like the ball sped up as it went towards him. The reason I brought it up was because it did look really bad on tv, but a lot of people seemed to think he couldn't catch it, they might have been watching a choppy stream because it seemed obvious to me that he had at least a full second to cross it, but he hesitated and wanted to trap it first, probably because there was no one in the box at the time. Everyone was poor in the first half so I dont think he needed to be singled out.

No, everyone was poor, but he was worse than the rest. He did nothing and created nothing, but he did spoil a couple of attacks. Thus, I think he was rubbish.

He had a couple of decent shots at end of the first half but was really sloppy in posession and was anoymous in the second half, he didn't really look interested. People joke about his beard but what was different about his last couple of games was he was playing angry, tonight he just looked bored.

What I'm defending is, it's okay to critisise him, however childish posts full of hate and demanding him get out our club are just wrong in my opinion.

I didn't think he played well today at all either personally. But the amount of hate shown towards one our own players the last couple of years has been embarrassing. And I get annoyed every off game he has with the same fans rearing their heads.

True enough, but I want him out of the club on the basis that I just don't think he is good enough anymore. He was a great player, but he holds us back at this point, and that is based on the last few seasons.

Obviously it was a step down from his last few games, but I wouldn't say he was as bad as he has been for the majority of the last couple of years. As long as this is as low as the 'bearded' Rooney gets, I'm ok with it. Hopefully back in a more normal setting he'll be back to how he's been for the last weeks.

I bet your forehead vein is pumping worse than Keane's right now. He earns treble what you or me earn in a week...

Wasn't great today. Touch and passing was off. Don't expect him to start against Spurs, even if he had a blinder tonight, but hopefully he can contribute if needed.
