Wasn't great today. Touch and passing was off. Don't expect him to start against Spurs, even if he had a blinder tonight, but hopefully he can contribute if needed.

Yeah think we need the three in mid against spurs so would scrap him and play carrick Herrera pogba mkhi mata ibra front 6

I bet your forehead vein is pumping worse than Keane's right now. He earns treble what you or me earn in a week...
and what, a performance like this form a professional sportsman is just unacceptable, the sad thing is that it's been three long years he's been given game time despite being totally not of United standard

It seemed like the ball sped up as it went towards him. The reason I brought it up was because it did look really bad on tv, but a lot of people seemed to think he couldn't catch it, they might have been watching a choppy stream because it seemed obvious to me that he had at least a full second to cross it, but he hesitated and wanted to trap it first, probably because there was no one in the box at the time. Everyone was poor in the first half so I dont think he needed to be singled out.

But why the feck did he try to kick it out for a throw in when it would have been easier to simply stop the ball with an outstretched leg? That was the biggest absurd in that situation.

I was impressed with his game against Hammers in the cup( best in years), but tonight's showing was all too familiar. Dunno maybe OT faithful should start belting expletives in his direction so he'd be able to sustain decent levels of aggression & concentration.

Sigh. I had hoped at least us being shit despite Rooney being relegated to the bench for much of this season would've stopped people blaming Rooney for our predicament for the last three seasons, but it seems not. Granted, he's not the player he once was, but he's not the root of all our problems. Honestly some of you are so tiresome.

That being said, Rooney was quite poor tonight, especially in the second half he was almost invisible.

Exaggerate much?
yeah I do but this was as bad as any of his worst games for us, just because he's had that one good game alst week and not the absolute worst two games before ppl start to believe he can be good again or stop critisising him and that's what he fully deserves, he played liek after another party, jsut shocking for me..

And he's been given incredibly easy ride by media or fans who believed again for three years+ that he could come back with every little good thing praising him like he's some kind of genius when he can control the football... I'm tired of this now but he deserves to be slated for this kind of horror show as much as he deserved to be praised for his last performance but I will say this for the last time HIS MINUTES ARE ABSOLUTELY WASTED IF GIVEN TO HIM, TFM, Lingard or even Memphis could play much more or some players in last season if he was sold by Fergie who was spot on with his decline...

hope you go to hell Moyes

It is shocking the extent and speed of his decline. I just struggle with the hate from some. He's given a lot over the years. Maybe it is best if he moves in Jan, but if he's picked and just isn't up to speed anymore, should we crucify him?

I dont know man, he doesnt really look like he tries, from the rooney who tried to fight for every ball, he lost that hunger and isn't really up to it, we've seen that in WHU game he looke din a shape all of a sudden but how come the next game he looks like he'd came from the pub? he had all week to recover.

If he's struggling with motivation which he seemingly is another reason to let him go asap, there were moments in which he really embarrassed himself like when he could catch that ball if he was fit and hungry enough to play he could easily catch that but there were worst for which I really struggle to have an asy word for him like when he lost that challenge at the touch line he was just too lazy to make quick three steps and sheilds the ball properly but the player got around him despite being in basically unwinnable position.. these are the situations I really hate him

the fact that he isn't good enough I am more angry at Mourinho despite getting angry at him in this thread it is aimed at all the people responsible for his stay here so Moyes, Van Gaal who was supposed to have big guts to bench every player and now Mourinho wh of course made the first step and maybe today rooney's selection is justified but he shouldn't be making bench after a performance like this next game, problem is he will make it no matter what.

So that's why I can't wait for the day Wayne Rooney is out of the club because he just outgrew the club and we will never move on if he's still considered even partly as a selection option.. he's our worst footballer by a mile, counting all squad players for this year..

Awful again tonight. There was a glimmer of hope after his last two performances, but tonight showed why he should no longer be considered first choice. Inconsistent and off the pace. Replace him with Martial and we are set

A sensible and fully understandable point. It is in fact a sentiment that would make large swathes of the caf a better place to discuss the players.

However, the difference in Rooney's last two performances is stark. As equally obvious is the difference in attitude he displayed. From irrepressible enthusiasm and aggression against West Ham to a lethargic, unfocused and lacklustre display tonight.

It's not that Rooney is incapable, he showed otherwise just a week ago, it's more that he seems unwilling/uninterested in performing to his best. For that he is fair game for a lot (if not all) of the vitriol that is sent his way.

His performance tonight makes the way he played in the West Ham cup tie look a blip. Oh well...

The interesting thing was he came off at the 60 minute mark and the commentators never made anything of it, nor did Scholes and Owen in the studio afterwards, in fact all 3 pundits pretty much left him out of their strongest starting 11, it feels like the drama escalated becase the media had turned a blind eye to how bad he had gotten for so long, and now it's just hit the realistic phase where he's a squad player and that's that.

I'm not going to crucify him for a poor game when we were expecting a poor game for everyone on a difficult surface. I'd like to think he's pulled his finger out. I doubt it though.

It's a bit sad given how say Scholes and Giggs managed to bow out with grace.
I don't know who to be mad at, if anyone. Jose has dropped him tbf. It's weird. We had some people on here praying he doesn't beat Charlton's record. Even if he bags two against Spurs?

I missed the game tonight and am playing devil's advocate. Obviously disappointing if it appears the flame has died.
If it's any consolation, my team lunch is in fecking Earlsfield tomorrow.

Rooney's new pic

His usual performance today, hopefully it doesn't mean that his last game was an exception

Done! :D

 is that Roy Keane's beard?

He was ok. Obviously, for Rooney, that translates into being terrible in the minds of a large number of posters.

I can't believe people are complaining about his wages. It's the sort of discussion I normally have with 60 year-old women at work who want to compare footballers to soldiers and nurses.

He was pretty bad tonight no doubt but i've seen worse Rooney performances. I wasn't getting my hopes up after the West Ham game that he'd suddenly returned to form. Rooney's form will be patchy always has been, between his decline and now not being a regular that will be even more apparent from now on.

But tonight i'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt because that pitch was horrible and the conditions didn't help. In the first half half the team struggled to control a ball.

More like the bosses at England NT must have brief something and the media is now going into attacking mode on Rooney since the recent international break. These commentators just follow orders.

Okayish performance from Rooney. I would give him a pass on harsh critic since Pogba had his worst performance at the weekend after a game off, then today playing condition is terrible. Someone as tidy as Herrera and Mata were sloppy too among others common suspects in Zlatan Pogba.

Whilst I want him gone in the summer and replaced, I think its harsh to judge most of our attacking play today. It wasnt really great except for our two goals, and quite understandable given the pitch. We did a job.
Honestly think next game will be a better reflection (whether its as a sub cameo or starting).

Just go all the way and blame the Illuminati.

If you watched the BT stream, every time Fletcher criticised Rooney, Hargreaves just went quiet. I think it's set that his buddies will not say anything

I thought after being dropped, that it took him a while to realise he had a fight on his hands. He seemed blaze about it initially as though it was just an empty threat and that he'd be back in the side in due course. Then he seemed to realise he actually did have to book his ideas up. He put in a couple of performances that where more like. Not great, but acceptable. Last night was back to the shocking standard we have come to expect. Falling over and running into blind alley's. Dreadful.

Last night was also the first time (surprise surprise it was Pogba and Zlatan) I have seen players shake their heads and so signs of discontent with his first touch.

Will not be here next season!

The bolded part is very true - in the first half he was quite visible; he fecked up at every opportunity. It was there for all to see.

I guess Joe Hart has introduced Wayne Rooney to some Head and Shoulders shampoo because he was pretty crap last night

Actually he was crap, but that translates to "ok" for you, because for some reason you're desperate to defend him.

That beard!

Not great last night but the fans live a tryer and his head didn't drop at any time.

Thought he was shite last night, way off the pace, there was a moment that I think it was Zlatan played a ball to him on the edge of the Zorya area and he kind of fell backwards but in an almost weird slow motion and I actually felt a bit sorry for him, then I took one look at his beard and thought, twat.

surprised that hasn't been analysed here, it was funny though

Give the lad a break.

On good pitches, he's been failing to control the ball properly for nearly a decade so on a terrible surface it was always going to be a write-off.

You can't judge Rooney based on this game c'mon. The pitch was absolute rubbish. Zlatan couldn't find a single pass, Pogba just ran straight out with the ball, Mata kept hitting the closest defender, Young was adamant on getting a reverse assist. These are all exaggerations, yes, but give Rooney a break. This game was a bit of a write off from players' performance point of view.

I think this might be the first time in his career he's not been afforded the luxury of playing himself to form. I wonder what he makes of this.
