I've always found him to have good understanding with the likes of Mata, Kagawa and now Mkhi.

I've always found him to hold up play, lose possession, hinder our good attacks with his poor touch. He is usually one step behind other technically gifted attacking players. He has been a major hindrance to most of the good players around him in recent years but I can't complain about his last couple of games as he has been very good.

Must be the beard cause feck me he's all fired up:eek:

Needs to calm down a tad, as he might get sent off one of these days, especially as the refs don't seem to like us this season

Nah mate. He needs to keep it up. Angry Rooney is like the old Rooney.

Really thought he was finished but he showed again tonight he still has a lot left in him. I would still drop him for Pogba against Everton and keep the rest of the front four the same as tonight against West Ham.

Actually he will be suspended for 5 yellow I think so he won't play. But I reckon if against poor side, I will start him behind Ibra and Pogba as no8. While against top team probably play 3 man in midfield.

Glad he's getting angry. He plays best when he is angry and with a point to prove.

The dropping and all that fuss about him drinking has given him that extra focus.

Fair fecks to him. Probably one of his biggest deriders but he's proving me wrong at the minute.

Keep talking on the pitch Wayne.

Very good performance. I wonder if he could've done it without that beard?

There are several players that give me hope and optimism, but feck me it's fantastic to see that fire inside Rooney again. Some of his play recently brings back the good memories, and it feels good to be shouting "Rooney!, Rooney!, Rooney!" at my TV again. Hope he continues though.

He's been much better since Jose dropped him.

I really do think he got complacent, and was horribly out of shape. Whether he stories of him being a heavy casual drinker are true or not, something's changed and he looks a lot more like the player he should be.

Sharper, fitter, quicker thinking and reactions too. I'm no longer dreading his name on the team sheet, I just hope he can continue this.

From the few touches I saw, he seems to have regained that magic.

It's gotta be the beard surely, there's no other explanation.

He was very good tonight, seems to have his fire back.

Now we only have to figure out if it's because of the beard or because of the wine.

Not only that beard improved his performances, but he does look so much better with it #nohomo #okLittleBitHomoAfterThatPerformance

For me he was MOTM. If he can maintain this level of performance he showed tonight, I'll be happy.

Bearded Rooney > Headband Rooney > Fat Rooney

He looks motivated and like he has a point to prove. I think Joses use of him has been almost perfect. And its nice hes not playing every minute of every game now. The one game a week (starting) seems to be doing him a huge favour and doing a huge favour to United.

Credit to him for actually performing and contributing. Hope it continues and hope he realises that his best chance to actually win trophies is being a squad player rather than the man.

Superb tonight, he's been good in every single appearance since being dropped but stepped it up another level here.

Great to see.

Amazing what fighting for your place can do to players, and one thing is certain, Jose has shown everyone that if you fight, train well and play well when you get a chance, good things will come.

Glad he is starting to prove a point. Maybe its the beard and wine. Game of Thrones influence where everyone was drunk and had a beard.

great to see so many happy with his very recent form and especially game from tonight.

Deep down, we all want Rooney to be the heartbeat like he once was ... if he can deliver on the pitch, none of the other nonsense matters.

He has to adapt his game like all great ageing players and find a way to compensate for (relatively) older age. Seems to be finding that spot and I really hope he can justify his sqaud place til the end of his contract and not become an expensive albatross.

All that is gold does not glitter,
Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.
From the ashes a fire shall be woken,
A light from the shadows shall spring;
Renewed shall be blade that was broken,
The crownless again shall be king

In all seriousness if this is not just an Indian summer, we will have a very good season with his form this match.

In a great spell of form currently, long may it continue. The biggest issue for him at the start of the season and for the first few months I think was he just plain and simple, wasn't fit. He looked overweight, causing his reflexes to be slow, his overall movement to be slow and just looked weak going into duels. Mourinho dropped him, and he looks to have really gotten his shit together and looks motivated on the pitch, looks leaner then a few months ago, making every part of his game a lot sharper. Shame he's suspended for Everton, though then again, it could be a blessing because he always plays shit at Goodison, and a shit game might have set him back.

Also how the feck did the ref call nothing when he got kicked in the face  Same with Ibra's goal. 2 obvious fouls and nothing called.

Completely agree... He actually tends to raise his game and looks a lot better when everyone is playing quickly (and guys like Kagawa and Miki always play quickly). It's like he plays on instinct and just looks so much livelier and his touch and everything seems better. But he always knew how to link up well in those situations. It's when we slow things down, start playing slower, possession football that he has to think about everything that he turns a bit shit. You can't let Rooney relax on the pitch I think because then he gets far too casual with everything. If things are always on edge, everyone going for goals and playing quickly, then he is at his best.

He's responding infinitely better to being dropped than I ever would've guessed, credit to Wayne. Here's hoping it continues.

I think that's been the whole idea. Rooney has a tendency to get complacent when he's not challenged. You can see it in how he can get the weight of simple passes wrong, or fails at basic ball control. He needs to be on the edge to be able to play properly.

...and after typing all that down, I've just seen that Bosnian right here explains it much much better.

Honestly one of those games, I can genuinely say 'that was a very good performance' without needing to add anything extra.

Loved the drive, intensity and attack-first mentality. I'm guessing it came top-down from Mourinho but more of the same against Everton, who will not doubt raise their game and try to match us as a compact unit.

Interesting to see who replaces him on the weekend. Has to be Pogba and keeping the same midfield duo today.

The early season reaction toward him was always comically OTT, let's be honest. People forgot he was MOTM in the FA Cup final only 3 odd months previous. His run for Mata's goal basically clawed us back into it single handedly. And while that doesn't give him carte Blanche to be wet shit on a stick forever more, that kind of thing means a hell of a lot more in posterity than a wobbly half against Watford does.

He's on his way out, of course, but he's still an asset. Jose has played his shift in status well. He's Mata's back up now; and seems to have accepted it in a surprisingly positive way.

I still hope he gets the record soon and fecks off in the summer, of course... but between now and then, he can play an important role. His lovely pass to Miki for our first goal tonight is proof enough of that..

And let's face it, in 5 years time we'll all be singing his praises. No one ends their career as England and Uniteds top scorer with the caveat "yeah, but he was really wank against Feyenord away that one time toward the end..."

He'll have a fair few more shit games, that's a given, but now he's openly droppable, there's no real reason to hate him for it anymore, is all.

Genuinely glad for him. The quick football we played suits him, less time for Rooney to think.

Also that beard is sexy. Not Carrick-esque levels but still
