am surprised the anti Rooney brigade are not complaining yet on here about his performance against Feyenoord so far today.

He invisibility (by not playing) is allowing them to waltz through our defences.

F*cking Rooney.
He isn't playing. Why would people complain about him?

Although, I take your point in general.

I don't understand. The caf favorites are playing and Rooney is dropped so how is it we aren't playing glorious and fluid football?

You wanted a game without Wayne Rooney, you got one. 45 minutes gone without their GK being tested

So we play poorly for three years with him in the team and you demand the team to click within 45 minutes away from home against an European team, otherwise he should be back in the team? :wenger:

It was similar last season as well. We were quite poor even when Rooney didn't play so at some point you have to think that maybe it's the entire team that's a bit rubbish instead of making Rooney the scapegoat for anything that's bad.

If Rooney had played an performed against this very team, you'd be telling us "it's only Feyernood". We don't need to click but we can't string two decent passes together and have looked as bad as anything under LvG last year. Rooney not being in the team was supposed to promise exciting and brilliant football. I don't see even a hint of that.

That game is a solid proof that we can't play good football without Rooney. Where would be without him?

Seriously though, his fans must be embarassingly thick to draw conclusions from this game.

So, when we're shite and don't win, Rooney isn't to blame? Yet the same people argue that when he doesn't play, we struggle because he isn't in the side. Righto.

United fans you mean?

Embarrassingly thick is right.

Our problem goes quite deeper than Rooney, it always makes me laugh when people say just swap him for player X and we'll win the game by 60 min mark. There is no cohesion between our attack and midfield, it's same with Rooney or without him.

Our basic standards as a team needs to improve as whole. The first touch, passing and most importantly our movement, it's shocking how bereft of ideas our players look.

Well fans can draw conclusions from games where he's among our better players or he puts a winner on a plate in the 93rd minute but we can't draw anything from a game he doesn't play? Rooney hasn't been great this season for sure but the criticism has been harsh and we've been even poorer in attack today than usual.

The criticism is mostly based on years of subpar performances of the supposed talisman of the team, not on several average/poor games. We can do better.

What people argue is that when we lose, he isn't the sole reason. Had that been true, we should have been leading, but we aren't able to string a play together!

Most critics of Rooney would completely agree with this, the problems run deeper than Rooney. But he is still a problem nonetheless. Given his form over the last 4 years, it would be a miracle if he could contribute to winning the league or the CL. The feeling is that he is a hindrance, not that he is the only problem. Taking him out of the team wouldn't make us immediately better, at least not significantly better. But it would be a step in the right direction.

Would much rather argue about Rooney playing, creating a few chances and many saying he is shit than him not play and we create nothing and not look like scoring.

Right, left or number 10

His form over the last few years undeniably hasn't been great, but I seriously doubt if his critics would agree with this, else the thread wouldnt have been 109 pages long 5 games into the season! His form over last 2 years has been undeniably questionable. The Send Rooney to China brigade believes that without Rooney, we'd win 95% of our games, and the games that we win will be won by double the margin. Rooney has not featured n some games last season and now this season as well. We wanted Roo out during that 0-0 run in November last year and when he didn't play against WHU- our result was 0-0, today it's been our worst performance this season.

It takes a big man to admit to being wrong. I am that big man.

You guys were right, we look much better without him in the team.

Another half of garbage football despite no Wayne on the pitch. Who's to blame now?!

I can't speak for everyone but I never believed removing him is an instant cure. Specifically for the game today there were issues in the lineup besides him: no passer from deep (Blind/Carrick), no attacking ability from fullback, and simply bad performances from almost all the players on the pitch.

Generally what I am arguing is that looking at the players' form and positions over the last 1-2 years and their attributes , it makes sense for us to play a 4-3-3, a formation where Rooney has no place. And that it will take time for this team to gel together and produce anything better than the dross we have been subject to since 2013.

Not to say that not having Rooney playing is the reason we lose, but at this moment he is one of the player who can come up with final product when we need it. At least the game tonight will stop people from saying he is the sole reason we were dull.

Both sides need to pipe down. The out camp because there are other useless tossers to abuse tonight and the in camp because I said so.

The team was setup to do well without him. Pogba got to start in a 3 man midfield where he's apparently brilliant and Mata, Rashford and Martial started which is what everyone wanted. Rooney is the one who holds this team back so why was this one of our worst peformance in 4 years?

It's one game. Can hardly make a full judgment based on that. It's more just bad luck that we played so bad when Rooney isn't here. He is still finished.

Wait, so playing poor with him not in the team is now evidence that he's not a problem?

Jesus wept.

Rooney might be way past his best but while our alternatives remain what they are, he's going to continue to play and rightly so. I'd rather he be shit for 90 mins and then do something rather than the likes of Mata who go hiding in these sort of away games.

He might be one of the problems but he's not even remotely close to being the problem like this thread would have you believe.

Exactly. Everyone was saying Pogba Herrera Schneid/Carrick Midfield would be awesome- we had that today. People wanted Martial and rash and Ibra up front, we got 2/3 there. So why did we lose!
