Virgil van Dijk | VVD throws a hissy fit

Soton have it all in their hands. VVD signed a new contract what last season on very improved wages but now all that is forgotten. He was tapped up by Liverpool and if I was Soton I would take Pool to the cleaners on this.. Anything under 70 millz will be laughed at..

Okay, just to clarify. Virgil van Dijk is only interested in Liverpool. He has indicated this when both Chelsea and Manchester City approached him. He was "sold" a dream by Klopp which also includes the club captaincy at some point. So, regardless of whether Everton meets Southampton's valuation or not, van Dijk wouldn't even be interested in speaking with them as they don't offer CL (one of the reasons why van Dijk wants to join Liverpool)

Didn't this player complain about you lot coming in for him...?

Its a pity Liverpool are run by amateurs who fecked it up

He's trying to force his move and is training alone - there's life in this one yet!

Said in another thread, but I hope Southampton stay strong on this. He's the epitome of a mercenary, signs a 6 year contract and a year later, trying to pathetically force a move to a bigger club - who let's remember (correct me if I'm wrong) haven't even submitted an official bid for him yet - whilst forcing Southampton in to the uncomfortable position of apparently having to accept whatever Liverpool offer them, because he refuses to play elsewhere and also refuses to play at Southampton (whilst still expecting to pick up his weekly wage).

If Liverpool had any sense, they'd probably steer clear of a character like that. I know I would.

Not gonna happen but I'd love it if Southampton turned around and said '£70m or he's rotting in the reserves for the next 5 yeas until his contract runs out'.

Could be City bound after Peps comment from a few days ago.
I can't see Southampton being happy if he's trying to force a move to Liverpool

100% agree. When players and agents say this nonsense about how I'll only move to X club, its almost always the biggest pile of steaming bull and I would hope would force the selling club to stand even stronger and tell the player and the buying club to do one.

Ultimately though you can't force the player (and his family) to move somewhere they don't want to go...

Southampton's feelings may have little sway if Liverpool are VVD's primary intention.

Pellegrino says the club told him VVD will not be sold. My opinion still doesn't change, he wont leave and definitely not to Liverpool.

Saints lose way too much credibility if they sell to Lpool after all the tapping up threats. I think they could even make it a point to purposely not sell him there.

If he does end up going to Liverpool it sends all the wrong messages to fans of Soton, and current players who end up thinking if they just throw a strop theyll be allowed to leave. Saints will make a stand, have to

He won't be sold to Liverpool, in my opinion. Given their behaviour, Southampton will sell him to anyone but them.

The idea that he's made up his mind to go to Liverpool and only Liverpool is laughable.

your last part is spot on. their fans are somewhat convinced that he will only go there and nowhere else. Even if City Utd Arsenal Chelsea agree fees, he will reject them in hope Lpool bid. Ridiculous. I dont think they will sell though, he has like 5 years left on his deal. They'd be mental to, and with the club themselves coming out saying he is going nowhere, there will be riots

Lovren did the same thing prior to us signing him. It's why Saints fans give him a harder time than any of the other players we signed from them.

doesnt he have some rediculously long contract? could literally be benched out this year.

I know right. As if he'd turn down a move to a big club and demand a move to Liverpool only, all because Klopp sent him some kisses on WhatsApp and took him on the big dipper.

Think VVD is more muddy waters though. The apology and withdraw of interest, the tapping up threat. Too much credibility on the line for a deal to be done between you two clubs. Why i think its incredibly unlikely, as it is for saints to sell him full stop

Bench the fecker for half season. Im sure he'd say sorry after 2 month

In instances like this, surely Saints can dock pay for unprofessionalism? Bench him, don't pay him.

You would think that if a player refuses to play he's in breach of his contract and won't be paid.

He'll be a Liverpool player by the end of the window.

Yup, now it's simply bigger than just to sell or not to sell question. They'll probably flog him somewhere, other than L'pool though.

Bench your best player while simultaneously losing out on a huge fee that could be used to replace said player? Hmmm.

Just keeping track of certain comments for when Barca go full on "Barca dna" over Coutinho...

He has five years left on his contract. They only have to bench him until the window shuts. I admire your optimism, though.

EDIT I'm out of posts for the day. @PickledRed It is certainly hypocritical of some fans. Personally, I can't stand the practice. Even if it's for the benefit of my club. Purely because if a player will do it to one team, there's nothing to say they won't do it to mine.

EDIT 2 Berahino.

Is it hypocritical of fans of big clubs to become sanctimonious about tapping up and players striking etc? Such behaviour has almost certainly benefited all big clubs who raid lesser teams. It becomes an outrage when it's a rival doing such things.

The moralising football fan is usually on an extremely sticky wicket.

I admire your naivety as to how football clubs operate.

When was a club's best player benched for half a season as stated above ?

The only element moralising here are Southampton.
The rest of us thinks its hilarious.

Actually, there seems to be some truth in that he wants to go to Liverpool only. It is quite possible he will choose them over City, Chelsea and the rest.

The reason is because Klopp infected his mind with dreams of being Liverpool captain in the future according to some reports, I believe. Effective brainwashing, I think he is already imagining himself captaining them to the finals of the CL. And let's face it, it is only at Liverpool that a player like van Dijk has a shot at becoming a captain in the near future --- other clubs will have other personalities bigger than him.

Tapping up is fine, but I am not a fan of players who go on strike. He signed a contract and should honor it. It also is highly unprofessional and crass of several Liverpool legends to speak to the media about how van Dijk can still force a move, go on strike, etc even after Liverpool backed off. You don't see legends of other clubs keep obsessing over one player and giving him advice on transfer moves.

what annoys me with it all, is Lpool fans gave Sterling absolute stick for his Man city stuff, or wanting to leave. Now they are encouraging, and celebrating VVD handing in transfer requests, and wanting to leave etc.

it is BS that VVD only wants to join Liverpool. It just is. Absolutely no fecking way if City agree a fee for him, he does not go there incase Lpool bid. Zilch, nada

So no, Liverpool are not the only team he wants to join or play for. Of course Paul Joyce will tell you that, being as he is a Lpool fan i believe? Or always reports on them anyway.

Telling me Real Madrid wouldnt be able to entice him, or barca, or bayern? come on
