Virgil van Dijk | VVD throws a hissy fit

I think it is the arrogance that "upsets" the fans. Its not being upset either, its just thinking you are a bunch of two hats. The sensible, magnanimous and non-condescending Liverpool supporter is so few and far between, that they may as well not exist. (And FYI, you still have some way to go to be on the same level as Pompey ;))

"Our feeder club" and all that sort of crap. Do you think that Saints turn around and start calling Celtic "our feeder club"? Maybe you were being tongue in cheek, maybe you weren't. TBH there is so much arrogant twaddle coming out of Liverpool fans, that it is hard to tell when people may not be being wholly serious. It's not just Saints fans, but most of the footballing world look upon Liverpool , banging on how great they are, what wonderful history they have, and wonder when they are actually going to win something. Sure 1972/1973 to 1990/91 Liverpool finished in the top 2 every season except one. That is a phenomenal achievement, but that's pushing 30/40 years ago.

Now if you look at Untied, they have won rather a lot more recently, but they don't go on and on. "Oh look at us, we've got the same number of European titles as Barca fyi ffs fgs smh YAWN". There is such a lack of class and feeling of entitlement that is so misplaced given the way they spend hundreds of millions and still don't win anything. I don't really blame LFC supporters, after all, the press blows so much smoke up their backsides I guess it would be easy to undertake this self-aggrandisement and arrogance. But **** me its boring. You don't need to give it the big I am. We all know what Liverpool was, is and could be. Maybe its a Liverpool thing, as Everton suddenly have started giving it large as well with this Moshi chap and his money.

This guy. I like this guy

He isn't going anywhere.

Fair play to Southampton for digging their heels in, he'll be back playing for them in a few weeks like nothing ever happened.

Southampton’s position over Virgil Van Dijk remains unequivocal. He is going nowhere today – not to Liverpool and not to any other top club. Liverpool have been unable to initiate any talks with Southampton in recent weeks, after the warning they got from the Premier League for tapping up Van Dijk earlier in the summer, and Southampton have certainly not gone to them. There has been zero contact between the clubs and that will remain the case today – it has to, in light of the sensitivity over the tapping-up – and it means that there is zero chance of a deal. Southampton remain confident of reintegrating Van Dijk into the team after the window shuts.

VVD saga is over.

 Well done Southampton.

My Liverpool supporting mate was still confident they would end up with him. Nice to bring them back down to earth.

I am bricking it here. Can't believe we'll go into the season pinning our hopes on Joe Gomez coming good as soon as Lovren picks up his monthly niggle.
I'm more worried about losing Matip. Imagine having to play Lovren and Klavan for two months.

A bit baffling that Liverpool doesn't seem to have a backup plan for another defender. That's the one area they desperately need to improve.
Back up plan is keep Sakho and wait for next window to squire Van Dick.

I have no hope for lovren. My hope was that once Gomez gets a shot in the centre, he nails down the spot.

Klopp should settle his differences with Sakho. He's a good player.

What the hell did he do? I read that he was late and then flippant about it. Is that really all there is to it?

I think that's what I read as well. Imagine if Coutinho is back playing for us again after what he's done and said, and Sakho is still left out completely.

A couple of injuries and we'll have to play him anyway.

Not sure he would have been a cure-all for Liverpool's defensive woes anyway. He is a good player but quite error prone and ultimately untested at the highest level.

Absolutely this! No where near the best CB in the league and no way a 60-70m pound player

@B20

Are you excited for the signing of VVD? Do you think now that you have him, he was the final piece of the puzzle? Will it finally be your year again? Can you see anyone scoring against you nowadays mate? Will you YAWN with me mate???

Have Liverpool signed vD yet? I told them that he wasn't leaving this window and I was poo-pooed for it. Apparently we were being stupid and just trying to get a bidding war going to up the price. heaven forbid we actually wanted to keep him! Of course, he still may, but if he does, it will be mighty expensive (and likely not start with a 7 - I would refer a 9 in these crazy days!!!).

Why don't you direct your anger in the direction of Sky Sports and other media outlets that continue to speculate about this, despite our clubs not being in contact for weeks?

Sky Sports have literally just mentioned Van Dijk asking whether it could still happen despite Southampton stating that he's not for sale, and Liverpool stating that they're done for this window.

GOAT post.

I'm not angry at all, but you are right. The press, who seem to be predominantly Liverpool sycophants, have been relentless for months. And boy, we've got round 2 to look forward to sometime in the future.

Sky are still asking questions about Van Dijk. It's been a non-starter for ages.

Its the equivalent to click bait. Its going to carry on after the window closes, and reach another crescendo in January. If he stays then, we'll start all over again next May.

I think Southampton would let him go if any other club came in for him with a reasonable bid, but after Liverpool pretty much got caught tapping him up there was never a chance they were going to let him go to Anfield.
