Virgil van Dijk | VVD throws a hissy fit

More like he'll be unhappy to stay at Southampton. If a move to Liverpool or Chelsea is falling through, what about us or City?
£35-£40 would be a good deal. Anything more is a no go.

We should be all over Van Dijk now. Liverpool are out of the race, and it looks like City and Chelsea has moved on to look at other options after he reportedly chose Liverpool. Van Dijk would a brilliant partner to Bailly, as they have complementary abilities. I see Van Dijk as a perfect fit to the Ferdinand-role, where we sweeps up behind Bailly in the Vidic role. I am not saying that Van Dijk-Bailly are equal to Ferdinand-Vidic in terms of quality, but I see a lot of similarities in how they fill their roles as centre backs. There are not many top level centre backs that are available right now, and I would rather see us spending 50-60 million pounds on Van Dijk than getting Bonucci, Marquinhos or Laporte for the same price. Even Lindelöf and Michael Keane would cost us around 30 mill pounds, so I would like us to put in a bit of extra money to get top quality. Can't see Southampton wanting to keep an unhappy Van Dijk for another season, they will see him go eventually if his performances doesn't decline. It looks like they will have a new manager next season as well, and selling Van Dijk would give him a huge budget to bring in his kind of players.

 What's this supposed to mean? Is he trying to show that he is still sulking over not getting a move to frickin Liverpool?
He's reminiscing about that time he and Klopp had a romantic stroll down Blackpool beach.

We aren't going to spend 50m+ on a CB. We have good CBs at present and what we need is a reasonable defender for a reasonable price. Which is lindelof for 30m. Bailly smalling/jones lindelof Blind will be fine for 3 months before Rojo comes back.

He should read what a new an improved contract means..... Saints can keep him as long as the contract states. Plus it also means that he can´t talk to Liverpool without Saints giving him the go ahead.
Can´t say I feel sorry for him in anyway or form, Liverpool are just the gift that keeps on giving..

Seriously. He recently signed a new long term contract with them, and now he's gonna sulk

Manchester United have one top quality centre-half who could potentially be world class in a season or two, that is Eric Bailly. They need at least one more. Not players of 'reasonable' quality. A club of United's stature should always aspire to be and to buy the very best. The sort of qualities van Dijk posesses, his proven performance consistently at the top level, plus his age make him a perfect candidate for the back four Mourinho should be looking to build.

The only question is the price. Even in this inflated market, £60m looks a very large sum on paper. However, if a deal can be reached including Jones or Smalling (or both) to bring the cash price below £35-40m, van Dijk is near enough the ideal defensive signing.

Bailly isn't poor on the ball, he's second to Blind among centerbacks.

Have a word. He's good ON the ball but he's miles behind Blind as a footballer: First touch, ability to spot a pass, ability to make that pass.

No issues with Bailly. He's a better centre back than Blind but we don't need to make things up.

I really think he would be a good signing, Bailly&VVD with either Smalling/Jones&Rojo as back-up 'feels' strong

Rojo is our best defender. You want him as our back up, while we push the shiny new toy to the front of the queue?
This is like when Victor Valdez signed for us and fans wanted us to bench DDG (POTY for many years in a row), to play our shiny new toy.

It's pretty obvious tha the wanted to join LFC and LFC did want him. So, can LFC now contact Southampton and officially sign him?

Reckon he stays and anyone buying him will really have to pay 60m ish. (they wont, hence my opinion)

He's second to Blind with the ball, there. We don't need to make things up by misplacing context when there was none to begin with.

He is though. He was a large part of why we went unbeaten for so long and his injury is a massive blow for us.

You and your shovel are clearly having a special moment togther. I'll leave you be.

I take it you haven't been watching our games then. Rojo was as good as any CB in the league before he got injured. He is first choice over Smalling, Jones and Blind.

This guy is top quality ahead of Bonucci? What has this guy done but have a good season.

Signing van Dijk is similar to signing Schederlin - decent players you hope would be able to step it up. Definitely not top quality. Not yet.

Well he was, and I will have no issues if Mourinho wants to build Rojo-Bailley as our long-term CB partnership. They do have the potential.
I don't think anyone is arguing against a Bailly-Rojo partnership, they were great. What I don't think most will agree with is Rojo being better than Bailly.

I thought Rojo was better than Bailly but even if not, I don't think the assertion deserves a facepalm. Rojo was immense before he got injured.

Rojo our best defender ? He's improved under Jose but needs to maintain his form to be considered our 'best'. My point is that we need 4 top class CB's, Jones and now Smalling seem to spend too much time on the treatment table so one or both could move on. VVD appears to be availed so why not ?
Which ever pairing from Bailly/Van Dijk/Rojo/Jones or Smalling would depend on form, fitness and the opposition.
I guess my point is that whoever we bring in, SHOULD be capable of going straight into the starting line-up, and don't forget Rojo won't be fit for some time.

Offer Smalling and cash. This would properly wind up the Scousers
