Virgil van Dijk | VVD throws a hissy fit

Nope. They've been klobbered again.
lol... they are like Arsenal, play pretty little triangles and preen about from August and then collapse every march lol... so predictable. The scousers and inefficiency? How not to business 1001 :p

Now that the player is unsettled, we should perhaps offer 35mil with Smalling and Januzaj. They get an immediate replacement for VVD, cash to strengthen the squad and... well... Januzaj.

We should try and do business, I mean we can't keep Smalling and Jones again can we? If so why we don't offer them one of unwanted defenders plus cash and get him? We really should get him or maybe Jose wants another C.B!

How can we help push the FA towards an investigation and get them a transfer ban? Must be someone we can email!

That's the 'smart' bit I've already talked about. It's like getting late to a school fight only to see both parties reluctantly shaking hands. Whatever you say now is too late unless you got information about one of their mama's that either hasn't already said. :)

Of course Southampton taking this further could screw us.

No idea why liverpool fans are blaming FSG. Going by all media reports it was all Klopp fault for incessantly contacting him/seeing him face-to-face and a leaker that couldn't control their smugness.

Well, they either knew Klopp was doing it and did nothing about it to control that information, or they didn't know and can't control their own management team. Either way it's an amateur way to run a big club. It must happen in so many transfers too.

The same way we blame anyone else but Mourinho. Fans love to be protective of their manager, especially when they consider him like a messiah who will get them out of their mess.

Am I the only one who is kind of disappointed that Liverpool won't be signing him for 60+ MP? Its a ridiculous sum which he is no way near worth even in the current market. And if he fails to perform to the expected levels , its not just a financial loss for a club like Liverpool, but a whole bigger mess where the whole transfer policy and scouting system would need a rejig. Even if he is a success, I would rather prefer him being a success at Liverpool rather than Man city or Chelsea. Lets face it, Liverpool are not our rivals in the long run. They do not have that attraction quotient to them which would pull the top players which City, Chelsea and United have. Its not like they have the financial prowess the 3 clubs have, to buy whoever they want for whatever amount they want every window. One can just hope he moves out of England rather than move to City or Chelsea for a lower price. Hopefully Barcelona make a move since they are in dire need of a CB and he perfectly fits their bill.

So they "drop" their interest to please Southampton, but Southampton now have a player who has more or less made it clear he wants to go to Liverpool? What are Southampton gonna do come August....."Heres that player you publicly don't want....give us £60m that were you close to giving us before we made you know...drop.....oh wait, we'll settle at £40m"

Well played. £40m would still be a bit insane, but they have most likely saved themselves obscene money either by not getting him at all or getting him cheaper now.

We have seen guys like Ronaldo and Modric have good seasons after staying a year longer at a club than they wanted to.

That's what you get beating your chest in the media. Publicly boasting about tapping up. They'll still find a way to play victim no doubt.

Really? What did they do exactly?

So Liverpool couldn't wait to play "Klopp card" on top of paying 200K for a CB and ended up with egg on the face.

Still think he will move to Liverpool, PSG did the same thing when signed Thiago Silva.

Liverpool look like they are being run by amateurs and yet we have people who think we are a little off :D

Suarez had his best ever season the Summer after he had gone on strike to force a transfer.

They aren't getting him. Not after this sorry episode.

Ronaldo, Modric and Suarez weren't exactly staying at Southampton......love what Southampton do year after year, but that's their thing. Even if they kept all this talent, I reckon they'd still be rocking that upper mid table. I think they are already bracing themselves for JWP leaving next summer.

Leaked to the press that Van Dijk wanted to join Liverpool. Southampton then wondered how that was possible when they hadn't even contacted them to show their interest.

Subsequently it turns out Klopp possibly met Van Dijk in person also. Probably wouldn't have known about it unless they leaked the info.

What makes people think he would suddenly be available for 40m? They don't want to sell their player who has a long time left on his contract. They don't really need the money either, and chances are he will still be worth a lot next season.

It's up to the buying club to make it worth selling, and I don't see any reason why they would sell for that amount.

Every club worth anything is doing the same thing, tapping up players for a move, but trust Liverpool to get caught doing that multiple times.
