It's like the kid who has been picked on for years has rounded on it's tormentor and floored him with one blow, fair play Southampton, that'll see Liverpool off your back for a good while.

Well done saints and have some of that mickey quinn giving it the large on the radio a few days ago talking as if liverpool have signed him and how liverpool have got a player like alan hansen and liverpool will win the league with van dijk. Feck you lfc and that deluded quinn

Nah, keep going S'hampton. Bring the truth of their dirty transfer dealings, and the tragic reality of how hubcap thievery affects thousands in Merseyside, into the light. Have the PM answer for it in parliament as well.

This is just perfect! My mates who support Liverpool have been gloating about "sealing the van Dijk deal" the last 24 hours and sent me pictures of van Dijk cause they know i am hoping for a Bailly/van Dijk partnership next season.

Have sent them back a link for the Liverpool apology statement to Southampton but no answer back

Not sure why anyone would gloat over signing VVD for 60 fecking million. So ridiculously overrated.

We should be in for him, the talk of £50m+ was paper talk I think, £40m would make him among the most expensive CBs ever.
He signed a six year contract last year. He isn't going to go for below £50M. No pressure for Southampton to cell. VVD was the idiot for signing a six year contract in the first place if his intention was to leave within a year.

Looks like there was a pretty strong case against them. They had to publicly apologize and have ended their interest..

Have Southampton withdrawn their complaint? Wonder if the FA will still charge them..

Bailly is poor on the ball, nothing to do with grace. He is a great raw defender but we need someone alongside him who can play a bit
Watch bailly away to city this year and tell me that's poor. VVD is great I agree but bailly isn't poor.

Yeah, that's not going to happen. And saying most expensive ever, or among them, is a bit hollow. Like when mid-table clubs offer the best ever wages to a player, it doesn't mean they are good wages, the player may easily get 2x or 3x that elsewhere. Pretty much any decent centre back will cost "the most ever" this summer. And probably next season too. Until this bubble bursts.

I'm actually in tears.

There's tears of joy and laughter rolling down my cheek right now.

Lol, how embarassing Liverpool. I'd be happy if we got van Dijk tbh. Think they'd consider £40m and Smalling? I seem to recall them being linked with Smalling around January

I'd just love for us to sign him.

Even if we just left him on the bench.

Lets play devils advocate.

Is it possible Soton wanted a bidding war, ideally between city and chelsea and liverpool , Liverpool come out with their gloating that he wants them. City and Chelsea walk away, Soton get annoyed as Lpool say they'll only go to say 50m or keep a player who doesn't want to be there,.

Soton get pissy, threaten legal action so Lpool walk away, inviting city and chelsea (and others) back in?

Go on Southampton, go ahead and proceed with your claim.

I thought this was the second time that this happened with Liverpool and a Southampton player.

*Edit - I think it was Robbie Keane from Spurs who they tapped up.

Was Clint Dempsey. Fulham threatened to report them, Liverpool apologised. Shame that deal didn't go through.

Is this transfer officially done then? I know it's done from Liverpool's POV, but some suggestions that if Van Dijk hands in a transfer request it could still happen? I've not been following this saga to be honest and I'm only really just catching up now. I don't think he's worth £60m but in todays market it's not out of place. There is a lot of hype around him (whether justified or not) which I think has definitely driven up the price.

Another great job carried out by the Hardy Boys. This case screamed tapping the player up and was clearly littered with raging clues. To make things even better, I shall now enjoy watching De Vrij bring his brand of mediocrity to the Premier League instead.

I doubt it. Think Southampton are pissed off with Liverpool big time. Apparently Southampton are wanting closer to £70m anyway because they have to pay £10m to Celtic.

I imagine Southampton are being plagued by calls from solicitors seeing if they want to make a claim...

"Have you been involved in a transfer accident that wasn't your fault?
Have you took out a Ballotelli loan deal with PPI?

Call now before the deadline passes!"

I hope so! Southampton has been the Liverpool go to for their summer shopping. This ordeal has probably ruined the relationship between the two clubs and hopefully makes any future deals that much more difficult for Liverpool.
