This 'boycotting ceremonies' shit is so embarrassing and ridiculous.
Yep, shows you the entitlement from Madrid and their players.Boycotting it because somebody else who is more deserving of it won is laughable
The award has become everything it wasn't intended to be - political, PR-driven. The fact that several contracts now have it included as well for a cash bonus means that a lot of people are concerned less about who is the best player, but who is the right face to be the best player.Boycotting it because somebody else who is more deserving of it won is laughable
Whatever the case, if it is Rodri, I'm happy with that and pleasantly surprised. He's an incredible player, and the best in the world in his position along with performing his role to the highest level relative to what any other player does in their own role. Absolutely vital for club and country too.The award has become everything it wasn't intended to be - political, PR-driven. Agreed, while I don't like City having a Ballon d'Or winner, his season was truly exceptional and it would be nice to see a defensive midfielder win the award for a change.Whatever the case, if it is Rodri, I'm happy with that and pleasantly surprised. He was in team of the year?I mean, I don't get why you would say Rodri is more deserving. He was not even a top 3 best player for Spain at the Euros and his club season was good, but nothing eye catching. Wasn't even voted for EPL team of the year.
Not be a top 3 best player for Spain but still ends up winning player of the tournament ? Make it make senseI mean, I don't get why you would say Rodri is more deserving. If this is really true, it's a great decision. Turned up for 2 games and was invisible for Brazil and inconsistent throughout the season. Would have been the most underwhelming winner ever.
At any level or field, it's very petty to be ready to go somewhere and a whole organisation not show up suddenly because they didn't win. It's a shit award and only exists, like the Golden Globes, so that sports journalists can namedrop and pretend to be important.
Why do you care if someone doesn't show up? One fewer private jet flying to and from Paris for no reason.
He can be annoying for sure
You can feel that way but ultimately it doesn't matter. Ironically the people being offended would be the people who make a living out of offending the absentees. At any level or field, it's very petty to be ready to go somewhere and a whole organisation not show up suddenly because they didn't win.
He's by no means an angel, I think he does his thing more covertly than Vini. He hides his cuntishness in football plays whereas Vini can be explosive in moments not involving the ballIsn't Rodri one of the biggest tactical foulers?
As good as a footballer he can be, he's got the neymar syndrome, where he needs to be a bigger dickhead than everyone else. It really is annoying.
They have number 2 and 3 in the Ballon dorReal Madrid as an entire club need humbling. Yes, they’re the biggest club in the world but the entitlement that runs through the club is on another level. You can see the entitlement permeate onto the players like Vinicius and it’s ugly. I hate Barca too, but seeing Real get thrashed by them the other night was sweet af and I hope they dominate Real for the next few years.

Have won the last few CLs..Vini was Robbed ..
That didn't age well.

I had the exact same reaction. To be losing 0-4 and boast about [not even won] personal award is quite shameful, if trueIf that's true then it's ridiculous.
I'm 100% sure football is a team sport where the goal is for your team to win games, win trophies and win leagues.
Not sure it's to get an award for yourself, that should be an afterthought.

I miss ronaldinho personality. It befits him tbh, he's a bit childish on the pitch already. Always crying and moaning
Very well said!Footballers have gone weird. Started with Ronaldo's narcissm and self-centredness, desperately trying to win this each year becaus me me me. I don't remember anyone caring about this award growing up, and apparently Michael Owen (very similar age to me), had to ask what it was when he won it. Not sure if true but find it very plausible.
After Ronaldo started signalling he cared so much about it his fans started to as well, then the Messi fans did in turn and you had this strange fighting over it online for years. Until then it barely got a mention but now how many Balon D'ors someone has won is a huge staple of declaring which of 2 players is better than the other. People growing up in that era now place this huge emphasis on it, with Trent Alexander Arnold saying he'd rather win it than the World Cup.
Feel like and old fecker but bloody hell, kids these days! (Not all of them). Now Vini's acting up over it as well.
How many people who care about it have read France Football, the magazine it was created to promote? How many know who the judges are? If given a list of judges how many would they recognise which is important before deciding if you value their opinion or not?
The whole fuss over it is straight up bizarre.

'Won the ballen door once. Not for me.'Michael Owen (very similar age to me), had to ask what it was when he won it.

«I'll do it 10x if I have to. They're not ready.»
We can expect his obnoxious behavior to 10x apparently.
