VAR, Refs and Linesmen | General Discussion

The league just needs to bring in new refs. No ammount of help will get the current lot to a passable standard.

Can’t decide which decision is worse. Both pathetic.

Who fouled De Gea last season against Arsenal? I thought it was a team mate who hurt him. If not, fair dos.
tbh I don't remember, the whole season was a blur for me. I only remember DDG lying down and Arsenal scoring in the open net.

Nearly every week you're left thinking that's the worst decision I've seen.

I watched EUROBASKET today, and referee went to see the video and it was great. He couldn't decide if it was some big offence or not, he asked to slow down at certain seconds but still it wasn't big help from one angle, so then his assistant or whatever the guy is asked him stuff like:

1. "Do you think that was deliberate?"
He said "NO!"

2. "How strong do you think the kick was 1-10?"
He answered "2".

Then they went straight back to the game and blew simple foul without further punishment for defending player.

Crazy thing is he will be charged for this for bringing the game into disrepute while the refs who actually bring the game into disrepute will be reffing again next week.
A fascist approach to running a sport. Would be better if Moyes just went full Brian Clough and accepted the charge.

Some really poor decisions today. There’s zero accountability from the referees and the consistency from week to week and match to match is all over the place.

1. VVD should have been sent off
2. West Ham goal should have stood
3. Leeds manager being sent off for the same offenses Klopp is allowed to commit weekly

The only reason VAR is an issue in the Premier League, is because the officials make it an issue.

Indeed, it highlights how inept they are

As fans we also need to start making an effort to not blame VAR. It’s the human refs watching video either at Stockley park or on a pitch side monitor.

We need to just say the referee got that wrong etc. VAR just gives them an out.

Just unbelievable that something so integral to the game can be so poor. Absolute chaos today of horrific calls, pissed off managers getting sent off or moaning post match.

For the biggest league in the world and all the grandiose claims about it, the officiating is barely above Sunday league.

Just seen the Coutinho one

Absolutely ridiculous. You have to laugh at this point. Ref should be dropped to EFL.

Someone with the rulebook please talk me through that Coutinho "offside" goal please....

You have linesman keeping their flags down for about 5 minutes and this one put it straight up despite Coutinho not being offside at any point in the move....and VAR does nothing.

No good making the point players had stopped as they've been instructed to keep flag down until move stops.

They have just fecked up on the pitch. Linesman should not have flagged and referee shouldn’t have blown.

Also remember that Rodri goal in this same fixture 18 months ago.

Would be fun game to show to neutral replay of both and then ask which was given/disallowed....

Something isn't right with those refs, they keep getting worse with every season.

Don't understand why the ref blew his whistle, I thought they're supposed to let the phase play out so if its a goal VAR can check it? Refs have been terrible today

Sigh. And Pep/Klopp would moan for about six months and want FA/FIFA/UNICEF level of apology if it ever happened to them.

What's bemusing to me was there was no clear offside at any point in the move so how could the linesperson be so sure to put the flag up so early in the move?

Utter incompetence. Both him and the linesman couldn’t wait when they’ve been specifically told to do so.

As I say should be dropped

They couldn’t be sure and I think that’s what makes it worse. They are just guessing.

With something like this I think questioning their integrity is acceptable as it’s clearly either a massive misunderstanding of the rules by so called professionals or something more sinister.

A truly disgraceful day for these refs.

Standards somehow continue to fall each year, and the fact the terrible decisions today have all gone to benefit the biggest clubs makes it look even worse.

The Chelsea manager comes out and supports the referee/VAR. Until we get rid of morally bankrupt managers like Tuchel this rubbish will just continue.

I don’t agree with it but he would be calling out his keeper for being a cheat if he said it wasn’t a foul.

Stockley Park probably on early dinner tonight. Hopefully MOTD will ask for some sort of statement from them as they normally do. Fully expecting Ollie Watkins was offside five minutes before in a previous move as explanation.

Excellent point anyway for us but it may have been more.

The Villa offside call is totally inexcusable.

Can see with calls like this why people bring their integrity into question. It’s so unbelievably wrong and it’s not like it’s a new rule change, it’s been the case for years now.

Var is working fine in other leagues. The level of refs in England is shocking, and there's never any accountability.

They should entertain the idea of signing refs from other countries.

These referees keep doing it every week because the league doesn't hold them accountable, there are no ramifications for their actions. They make poor decisions one week, the association doesn't give a shite about it. There has to be some sort of system in place to keep the referees on their toes all the time or else these mistakes will keep getting worse.

Because the referee blew the whistle and stopped the game before Coutinhio had his shot, making it essentially null and void. If the ref hadn't blown and allowed it to develop and the shot happens before his whistle i think VAR would of intervened.

Wrong decision of course, linesman shouldn't have flagged so quick and ref shouldn't have instantly blown his whistle, the problem is the city players stopped and Ederson dosent put much effort in trying to stop the shot because of the whistle so its hard to know even of the ref hadnt blown weather or not it would of led to a goal.
