VAR, Refs and Linesmen | General Discussion

You can only laugh but this shit has big consequences.
Does it? it's been going on for years now. Week after week after week, United's players are treated as harshly as possible while our opponents are afforded every conceivable leniency.

There are no consequences to it. It's been like this ever since SAF retired. It's an ABU revenge campaign.

I'm past being sick of saying the same things after every united game. But we are done over time and time again.

How are Arsenal allowed to play without visible numbers btw? Is it really going to stop stabbings ffs!
Of all the things to complain about in this game

more often than not our players get carded for their first offence.
We’re not a violent team nor a team making cynical fouls yet get carded as if we were, infuriating
Arsenal on the other hand get away with cynical fouls, timewasting and simply tossing players around during set pieces
Yep, that's the thing that gets me. Again, I'm very biased but it really doesn't feel like we're a cynical or violent side at all. The most you could say is that we have a few players (Bruno and Antony for example) who have a tendency to get stroppy and petulant but we're certainly not worse than our opponents today and I'd say we're no worse than the other sides in the league either.

Controversy will be downplayed slightly because the Dalot red card was fully justified, but that only happens because of the temperature of the game, and the ref lost control after about 20 minutes.

These FA Cup early rounds are an interesting experiment without VAR because I think they highlight just how shite the standard of refereeing is in this country. No longer have a computer to fall back on, and we realise that a lot of the "top tier" refs are just sadly incompetent with probably a tinge of bias as.well.

Just so blatant, our player gets a yellow for a slight pull on the shoulder, their player does the exact same thing and it's just a free kick. Ref very keen to book our players like most matches. Someone should tweet out the video side by side to make a point.

Tactical foul by already booked Havertz on Collier there?
Hah i saw that. I mean yes, clearly. Holds player back to stop the counter. I detest these fouls and definitely a tactical foul, but the rule is so haphazardly applied you never know when you’ll get it.

English referees need VAR. As bad as VAR operates in England, our refeees are not good enough to officiate without some kind of help from outside. Andy Madley's display today shows that.

VAR would not have turned over a single decision today. The only thing it would have done is given his decisions consensus.

They’ve got to reexamine these rules about slide tackling. The referees are often just showing a card as soon as the player leaves his feet. If a player slide tackles and does not make contact then there should be no card.

I don’t believe it was fully justified. I’m tired of referees brandishing a card as soon as a player goes in for a slide tackle. The Arsenal player jumps over him and I don’t even think any contact is made.

So glad we won so I can ask what the fukk was that from the ref? Every time they threw themselves to the ground it was given as a foul. So many undeserved yellow cards. Every freekick they were allowed to take from where they wanted. I saw at least 3 foul throws, not given. Fouled us at every corner, yet not one was given. The penalty never was, clearly. I can kind of understand the red card, even if I think Dalot got a toe to it and he actually made little or no contact with the player anyway. His first yellow was just another of those which simply wasn't being given for the many many arsenal fouls, most of which weren't called even as a foul.

Fukk the ref. He must be gutted right now.

Someone should really teach that ***** *** Thomas Partey how to throw the ball in properly.

VAR is not perfect but this game showed why it's needed. For example Havertz scored that sitter today it would've stood, with VAR it's disallowed as he first control the ball with his hand(s).

We don't need. We had so many VAR decisions against us that is so crazy. Decision that nobody understand and are amazed. VAR is just technology.

What we need is our club leadership coming out with official statement about our games and that we want explanation after every game where we feel there have decisions against us.

Wow, that was some shocking refereeing today and Arsenal still couldn’t find the back of the net. Kharma shiiii

If the club are ever going to complain about officiating it's after this game, where we've won and it won't just seem like we're sore losers. Call out Arsenal's shithawk tactics, call out Bruno not getting the benefit of the doubt, do something and highlight it because the press sure as shit won't.

I strongly disagree.

You'd like to think that VAR would have overturned the penalty. But would they? Despite everyone agreeing that it wasn't a penalty, there was some contact so they'd have likely hid behind the referee's call. We've seen it countless times this season.

VAR also wouldn't have got involved in the huge number of bad calls the ref made throughout the match. Or the decidely uneven way in which yellow cards were issued.

The only real difference, had VAR been there, was that Ugarte might have been sent off in the melee after the penalty was awarded. It would have been another ridiculous call of course, but he was ever so slightly more aggressive than Havertz(?) who threw himself to the ground. Just imagine giving Oliver the chance to sit in his office and decide another of our games.

VAR has made one thing blindingly clear: The only thing worse than relying upon one referee to make all the decisions, is to rely on more than one. With slow-motion cameras.

I totally disagree with the lack of VAR. The drama and unfairness of this game turned it into a classic. And at the end of the day, football is to be enjoyed, stressed over, worried about and get your heart racing. And that's what it did today. When the goals went in, when the penalty was given, when the sending off was handed out, emotions were at their absolute height, because there was no waiting for a revised decision. It was pure old school anger. I loved it all. Ref was shit, but that's just standard.

Got a nasty feeling that the skirmish will be looked at in fine detail and some cnut in the FA will decide Ugarte has headbutted Havertz (leading to his concussion and subsequent bizzare finishing skills).

I’m I missing something here? This is the third game this season where refs are quick to yellow card our players but other teams get away with it?

What was today? Every time we made contact, they get a foul. Ruins the game with bias referring. Nothing will happen as it will get brushed off.

Arsenal knew what they were doing. Gabby screaming when Garnacho pulled out of that tackle! Embarrassing, a grown man trying to get the ref to book him.

I said this. We need to do it now and just take the fines. This is the clearest game yet that we are officiated to totally different standards week after week.
