VAR, Refs and Linesmen | General Discussion

I just saw Stephen's red for Southampton. A red card for hair tug? Sure, a yellow card, but I can't see how that's deemed violent conduct. It's not biting.

Ronaldo got sent off for something similar in the CL, think he just ruffled a guys hair.

Probably didn’t help his cause that Cucarella went down like he’d just been scalped.

But if you do something stupid like that, you run the risk of getting sent off.

Also Watkins clearly offside and interfering with play for Villa's third goal because the defender made the header as he was going for it with Watkins but the goal is still given. How was that not interfering with play?

If a United manager spent as much time outside the technical area as Arteta does they’d install security around it.
I'd be looking for an opportunity to "accidentally" wipe him out if he was chasing me up the touchline like he was last night

At one point he was basically on top of Malacia as he tried to take a throw-in. Bit ridiculous now.

He's always at that. Sure he picked up the ball the other week when it was still in play.

He got a yellow but the commentators just laughed it off as he's not always acting the bollox.

United have been cheated out of 2 penalties on Sunday and now on 2 fouls committed for goals against them.

7 minutes added maybe the most farcical of all decisions this season

Were a weak club and are getting battered for it. There was at least 10 minutes added needed there.

And yet football was being played 100 years before that.
It simply isn’t a reason to delay the game.
Of course it is. If something went wrong because of the breakdown of communication there would be hell up

Horrible refereeing, let Forrest get away with time wastages again & again, at-least 3 minutes less added.

Ref ended the game right as we had some belief. Descended into comedy with him nit picking the onana kick, something that happens about 50 times a game. It wasn't even resembling a football match by the end

He sent mazraoui off, without any visible blood, while silva literally spooned blood around his face with his finger, pointed it out to him, and played on.

Apparently the stoppage for the communication issue was over six minutes. Once you take into account three goals and numerous substitutions, that added time was actually pretty scandalous.

 good point!

I thought the Rico Lewis sending off was really harsh. Chalobah fouled him, if anything.

I see this mentioned on MOTD commentary, I cannot understand this idea. Chalobah has the ball, plays a pass, Lewis dives in late after Chalobah has played the ball and gets a little knick off a trailing foot. At no point does Chalobah foul Lewis.

It's a foul by Lewis and a deserved yellow, he was being a whiny little shit all game anywsy and the ref could have sent him off for dissent if he wanted to. But, he got his chance to give him a second yellow and took it.

Yeah I thought the same. It certainly wasn't a penalty which I think is what Pep was alluding to in his usual post match cryptic answer.

I have to disagree. I don’t think Lewis fouled Chalobah at all. Thought it was a pretty ridiculous decision actually.

I didn’t watch the game, so no idea about any dissent or excessive whining. Just didn’t think what he got a second yellow for warranted a second yellow.

He was being an annoying whiny little shite. He's dived in late and the only reason Chalobah makes any contact with him is because he's late. It's probably a harsh yellow in isolation, but the suggestion or the idea that Chalobah fouled him is ludicrous. Chalobah has played the pass and he's late and slid in under him late.

Anyone suggesting that was a foul by Chalobah isn't of sound mind.

Whether it was a second yellow or not might depend on the context (multiple in game fouls?) but it's late and from the side so it's not completely ridiculous.

I didn’t say it was a foul by Chalobah. I said if anything it was a foul by Chalobah, implying that the closest thing to foul in that incident was Chalobah on Lewis and not Lewis on Chalobah. My view of the whole thing was that it was a nothing incident that did not warrant a foul at all from either side and the second yellow was crazy.

How could it be a foul by Chalobah in any sense, when he's the one who's played the ball and the guy has slid under him late.

Wasn't much in it for me either, but with the way he was carrying on, the referee was probably just fed up of him and looking for an excuse to give him another yellow and took it.
