VAR, Refs and Linesmen | General Discussion

You can be sure that after the wrestling masterclass offered by Chelsea, first booking will be against United.

Colwill could have gotten several yellows so far

Garnacho not offside and flag goes up. What the feck happened to playing on for tight calls?!?

I reckon he was off and a trick of the camera made him look on, but yes, everyone knows they're supposed to wait and then suddenly, the dont?

Baffling.

They zoom in Martinez touch on Chelsea player and dont show any extra replay on Rashford being taken out with studs. And people think media is equal towards teams. Club needs to ban people.

Honestly Martinez one was so nothing.

Think yous are over reacting. They showed the replay to show it was nothing.

My commentator was much better. Mentioned Martinez barely touched him and he goes down in a second motion, and not even sure why it’s being shown.

Not much to get worked up about in first half but can anybody explain why colwill wasn't booked for blocking onana. Looked the most routine yellow of the day

That, Caicedo yellow on Bruno, and offside call against Garanacho that could have been a good opportunity

There was a huge push on Casemiro from behind on the initial header anyway. How is that not a clear and obvious foul?

We've had this guy a few times and every time he gives me the impression he's referring a football match for the first time having studied a rule book.

Just seems to be absolutely zero awareness of what actually happens in a football match.

So dirty, should be a red for the intent and because the ball had gone. No need for VAR, ref sees it. In other leagues he'd be off.

Probably the worst refereeing performance I've seen this season.
The number of times United were fouled and he blew the whistle and gave Chelsea a free kick was unbelievable

He slips. The intent is to stop him going past him, the high contact is accidental.

You're a weapon if you think he's trying to do him.

Regardless of if he's trying to "do him" or whatever, It's pretty reckless, and with the studs up I don't think he could have had many complaints if he got a red

Doesn't matter. Reds have been given for less. Licha going over to apologise after tells you it wasn't nothing.

Ref was fine. Ugarte was lucky to stay on after committing 5 or 6 fouls post-booking but whatever.

He barely touched him. I'm not even sure he made contact.

Knee high studs up with the ball 10 yards away, only minimum contact shouldn't save when that kind of tackle can cause a bad injury, endangering safety, reckless.

No need for crap VAR, ref is right there and should show the red, easy call. In Spain or Italy that's what would happen.

It was minimum/no contact. What are you on about?

Exactly, it's reckless which is a yellow card. It's not excessive force so it doesn't meet the criteria for a red. There is, as we saw with Bruno, significant mitigation if the contact that occurs is not a result of your own action, and the fact he very obviously slips is that mitigation. If he doesn't then he's in trouble, but that should never be a red.

It tells you he slipped and caught him high accidentally, which you can see in the replay anyway.

Red and penalty for studs up in first half when Rashford went down?

Personally I think it's a textbook orange card. Don't mind VAR not intervening but if the on field ref had called it a red I don't think there could have been any complaints. You can't stud someone that high on the knee; there's a distinction between being reckless vs being high and reckless and this was the latter.
