Van Der Vaart On The Move

We should be working towards signing Sneijder rather than VdV. If Inter win today and Mourinho moves on, it may be a good time to try it.

I don't get the obsession with valuations by fans, if the club have deemed it worthwhile to offer £20m for VDV and the deal happened why would we be interested in whether we maybe paid a few million too much? If the player comes and does a good job then what does it matter? Transfer fees are used as a stick with which to beat players too often in my opinion, either we think the player would work in our team or we don't. In this instance I'd be happy to see it happen, although I doubt it will.

I agree with this. Transfer threads are generally obsessed with valuations over footballing abilities. Who cares what a player costs. Let the clubs sort that out between one another.

He was barely in the team at the start, then Kaka's injuries came and VDV started off in the same role in behind the strikers, but he's been played at the left of a middle three and had a surprisingly good season. Worked harder than I've ever seen too, which would've been my only objection before. If we're looking for a bit of flair and creativity, plus goals from midfield, VDV's an easy fit.
Agreed.

Having seen Real a lot last season I think you're right, and everyone needs to remember when Inter bought Sneijder he was coming off the back of an injury plagued season, VDV would be coming off the back of a very productive season where he has been a key player for Real.

He and Guti were impressive for Real in central midfield last season. If we're going to continue favouring a midfield 3 in big games then he'd be a good signing dependant on the fee.

Well knowing Madrid and their policy of letting off good players on the cheap that won't be a problem.

We dropped a bollock not getting Snjieder when he was available so cheap. He would have been perfect for us, and talk about 'value'. Inter got a fantastic deal with that one.

Can't believe we're discussing Van der Vaart without posting gratuitous pictures of his wife...

i saw a strip club advertisement in south florida that was using her picture like she worked there. no one else in america knows who she is tho

I remember seeing a documentary about him when he was at Hamburg where they said his legs are so massive that his bed in Hamburg collapsed under their weight...

He always looks less than 100% fit though and a bit too heavy to me - that would worry me signing him - is he capable of putting in a real shift over the course of a PL season?

All those suggesting Snjeider - he's a great player but I honestly think SAF's extraordinary loyalty to Scholes would stop us... Maybe this summer might be different though...

I don't think Ferguson thinks like that. He'll do what is best for the team, and until now playing Scholes has been the best.

I rate van der Vaart. I think he'd be a good buy for us and fits the bill if we want a creative force in midfield. Something hitting better corners and freekicks would be nice too.

everyone going on about the Sneijder deal as a benchmark is ridiculous. It was a bargain in an otherwise expensive summer.

Realistically, anything up to about £20m is the kind of price that a player of VdV's quality is going to fetch in the modern market. 23m euros isnt outrageous and it would be for a proven player rather than another hit-or-miss youth prospect.

I like Van der Vaart and think he would do a good job for us as an attacking midfielder - something that we really lack at the moment, but a different mould of player to Anderson, Van der Vaart is more of a playmaker and is also a set piece specialist - another thing that we have been shocking on over the last season.

VDV is easily worth €20 million. So why people are saying he's not even worth 10 is beyond me. People seem to forget that it's Real he's playing with, they drop people all the time, and are prone to sucking the life out of players. Same thing seems to be happening with Benzema. In the past, Sneijder and Robben have suffered too. Now people are ***ping over them because they can now show their quality. Same scenario for VDV if he gets the chance.

If £20 million is the cost of bringing in your first truely attacking central midfielder in some time that could very well take you to English and European success then that would be an excellent piece of business.

Loyalty? They play in different positions.

Maybe so, but they play a midfield diamond allowing him to play right behind 2 strikers. That wasnt going to happen at United so we wouldnt have seen the same player. He'd have been on the wing like at Madrid or in central midfield like at Ajax. He's proven to be good at both in his time, but his best has come at the head of a diamond at Inter.

Van der Vaart alongside Fletcher and then one other (ideally Anderson if he can make the step up) would be an excellent basis for our midfield for the next 5 years. He is also excellent at set pieces (corners, penalties + free kicks) which is another thing we lack.

Should be available at a decent price too, I would say snap him up or risk missing out. Wont be as cheap as Sneijder was last summer, but still a good buy and plenty of "value".

All stories regards RM players should be put on ice until Jose has been signed as he'll have big influence on who stays or goes.

Its going to make for an interesting balance of power at Madrid between Jose and the president. If Mourinho gets his way, I can see a couple of the "galacticos" being on the way out, if not, he will be stroppy and quit after a season or two.

No way is fergie going to buy another player with a dodgy injury record and no way is Sylvia van der Vaart going to want to live in Manchester.

My thoughts precisely

plus he's 27 already

plus our signings recently have been 'under the radar'. They will be signed before the papers really get hold of the stories, so big stories like this are just speculating

I've never seen any indication from VdV that he fancies putting in a shift when things get tough. Just another 'nice' footballer who wouldn't suit us, for me.

Van der Vaart has always been a player i'd loved us to have signed,I think he'd provide that dynamic creative spark that we've been longing for and I dont think we'd have to pay €20 mill for him either, surely at this tage real madrid can give us a good deal on a player ha. i think its a no go though as someone mentioned his hot wife wouldnt settle for manchester

Roma have demanded Rafael Van Der Vaart be included as part of the deal that will see Daniele De Rossi move to Real Madrid, reports from Spain suggest.

Spanish publication Marca comments that the Italian midfielder, who has long been a transfer target for Los Blancos, may be ready to make the switch to the Santiago Bernabeu, contrary to reports stemming from Italy stating that the player is not for sale.

Roma have stipulated that should any deal be brokered, Dutch international Van Der Vaart would be included as part of a cash-plus-player deal.

Roma’s current financial difficulties have made De Rossi’s sale a possibility, and the 26 year-old has apparently suggested that were he to leave the Stadio Olimpico, his only destination would be to Real Madrid.

Manchester City are also tracking the central midfielder, but Roma’s desire to see Van Der Vaart move to Italy could be a pivotal factor in the transfer.

De Rossi is an established Italian international, and will play a key role in the Azzuri’s defence of their World Cup in South Africa this summer.

that would be a very good signing for madrid... and just the type of player you suspect would fit in well with jose's approach...

Madrid already have some players for Jose's approach... Ramos and Marcelo at fullback, 2x Diarra, Gago and Kaka/Silva at the head of a diamond and Ronaldo and Higuain up front.

not a chance de rossi moves.

not a chance de rossi moves.

dont roma need the money though...

i could see him going... I know inter were linked with him before so the chance to sell him abroad, get some much needed cash and potentially even get a quality player in the deal

i guess a lot depends if he wants to be the future captain of roma or he wants to win stuff...

Jose likes defenders who can actually defend though. Under him Marcello will most likely be a midfielder.

You've posted previously chief that Madrid are after a top quality defensive midfielder (according to RM TV), so does that give this De Rossi story more credibility? Who are they speculating about signing this summer?
