Van Der Vaart On The Move

.... Why is it that United are so good at running a smooth show, keeping all incidents 'in-house' and avoiding this kind of shambles, whereas everyone else constantly has to deal with stuff like this? ...
I recall a rather major problem with Rooney in the not too distant past - threatening to quit etc etc.

In comparison, an annoyed comment from VdV pales into insignificance.

Yes, it lasted three days and he signed a new deal at the end of it. You regularly have a dozen unhappy players who state it in public.

.... You're very unlikely to win League Cup, even less likely to win The FA Cup .... You also have absolutely no chance of finishing in top 4 in the league ....
So "very unlikely" (or worse) and "no chance": perhaps you should offer me a bet with decent odds than none of these will 3 events will occur ???

Why do you go around all the time offering people bets on here? You wanted a bet about your title chances last season as well when I said there was no way you'd be up there challenging for the league but we never made.

... Liverpool ... They only finished behind Tottenham last year because of a home defeat late on ...
Would that be the home defeat inflicted on them by Spurs?

Yes, in a game they didn't even care about all that much. And it was a Liverpool side that was generally terrible throughout the entire season yet found themselves two points behind you lot.

A game they didn't care about all that much? I see.

PS. The gap was 4 points at the season end, not 2.

It was 2 or even 1 when you played each other. I don't think they were that interested in Europa League spot especially as they seem desperate to make top 4 this year and less cup games is good for them.

Why are you so defensive? Yes, you've 'recalled' one of the very few incidents that go against my train of thought. As so often, you seem overly inclined to throw reason and the truth out of the window in favour of petty point-scoring.

Rooney's major breakdown aside, it's hard to recall other episodes of player discontent reaching the media and United currently boast players like Michael Owen and Dimitar Berbatov who are happy to stay and fight for a place. Rio Ferdinand has also just been left out of a European squad but is happy. There's lots of examples that point to a harmonious squad.

Meanwhile Nasri and Fabregas have left Arsenal and aired major questions about the success of the multi-million pound move to the Emirates - what good does it do to the morale of the remaining players to have their ex-captain criticise their stadium and fans in that way? Chelsea have had problems this very week with the interview Torres gave criticising his teammates. Tottenham have Gomes complaining he's unhappy (if he's unhappy, how do you think Kuszczak feels? Kuszczak really has been 'bombed out' and demoted to 3rd choice!), VdV writing these comments on his website and I remember various other incidents down the years, not least Berbatov - happy to fight for a place at United but he made it clear he was unhappy being left out at Spurs.

I'm not criticising Spurs so much as pointing out that this is something that United seem to handle incredibly well - even the Rooney incident you seem to delight in bringing up has, clearly, been resolved with a fantastic outcome for club and player...

Yes. Arsenal don't really have a much superior squad but they will finish ahead of Tottenham on the virtue of them being Arsenal and other team being Tottenham. Liverpool are much more solid and I expect them to be consistent. They only finished behind Tottenham last year because of a home defeat late on, and I don't think Liverpool will again be as bad as they were last term.

There's no chance Tottenham will play in CL again in the next five years I reckon.

I need next week's lottery numbers, thanks

Very strange to omit VDV from the squad. I fully understand Harry prioritising the premiership but too completely omit him altogether? Just 'cause he's registered doesn't mean he has to play for gods sake. Odd odd odd.

Presumably, he's making a statement about how important that competition is to them this year.

I think this stance, and all his other comments about the Europa Lge, are disrespectful and harm the image of the game, but I can kind of understand - that area of the PL around 4th spot is incredibly tight right now and they really will need to make the PL a clear priority if they're to have any chance.

Their best chance might well be making it clear from the outset that VdV will be used solely for attacking the PL but as I say, it's still disrespectful, both to the Europa League and the other PL teams who fought to be in it last year.
