In a well-ordered universe...
I watched that segment last night. The woman is unhinged but it is a common thinking in the South (even though she's from Ohio). They're so entrenched in an ideology.
He has just announced that.Franken is about to resign
Franken: "There is some irony that I am leaving while a man who bragged on tape about his history of sexual assault sits in the Oval Office, and a man who preyed on young girls runs for Senate with the full support of his party."
Going out as a bit of a martyr then, looking to highlight how his party is different.
And it's a fecking stupid sword to die on (and that's putting it lightly).
I don't understand. Are you saying he shouldn't have resigned or that he he shouldn't have made the comparsion?
Awks...
Taking the high road is pointless here. Trump won't resign. Moore will, barring a miracle, be sworn in as a U.S. senator.
I think this should have gone to an ethics panel. But even as he is in his right to resign, no one gives a feck about moral victories here. Yeah, this will make Moore and Trump resign. Well done Democrats.
I don't think that is their intent at all. I would hope it is to do the right thing. Don't lower your standards because others do.Franken made a big mistake here. Scored an own goal. Moral high ground is meaningless. It won't change anyone's minds. Again this is the Democrats being outmaneuvered and falling right into the trap the Republicans wanted. If he or the Democrat leadership thinks this will somehow keep Moore from being a senator they are delusional.
I did as well. I wish he went sooner.I don't think Franken wanted to go, but he had no choice. @berbatrick, do you support Franken's resignation? I'm sure the vocal Jill Stein voter here called for his resignation.

What on earth
I'd put good money on that Republican politician being caught in the photocopier room with the Mexican intern's member in his mouth within the next few months.
At least six potential incidents at this point. Then they should have conducted an ethics investigation as Franken first called for and been patient. Even the 'victim' said she doesn't think he should resign. This incident, while distasteful, is not even in the same league as Roy Moore's pattern of predatory behavior and also Franken was not even a public official at the time but a comedian. I am still not convinced this isn't a set-up to some degree considering the timing and the discrepancies in the meta data not matching the lady's exact claims.

I don't care if he was a comedian at the time. What does that matter?
I don't think that this is plausible, it's probably more long term thinking involved in that they try to show some integrity. Also shortsighted imo is to only look at what it does to swing Republicans because turning out one's own base is important too.
I think it is 7 actually. The original plus 6 others. Having said that I thought he shoudl go after the first. If you mean Franken has six legitimate accusers now then I didn't know that and that's fair. Last I heard his female staffers came out signing a letter saying he treated them with respect so I was a bit suspicious of that photo charge not being taken out of context.

The problem is the first accuser was not vetted, unlike the 8 Roy Moore accusers that CNN vetted, and there were a lot of inconsistencies in the stories. Additionally the same standards need to be applied equally.
This can't just turn into a witch hunt where all you need is someone to accuse a Democrat rightly or wrongly and they resign while Republicans just deny and no ethics investigation occurs. Roy Moore's accusers have been vetted enough that their claims have a foundation. I have not seen the accusations against Franken have such truth established about them. There needs to be a process to vet claims to ensure truth and then penalties. This should apply to everyone.

It also is possible to sexually harass some women but not others. If you mean Franken has six legitimate accusers now then I didn't know that and that's fair. Trent Franks resigns to avoid a harrassment investigation. Good riddance.
Their time will come...Not going to mention names, but it is interesting & concerning that some high profile US politicians have been relatively silent on the sexual abuse scandal.
