Uniteds summer activity

I think that the bigger chunk of money is going to be spent on a keeper. Great goalkeepers are a rare breed nowadays. SAF may go either for potential (De Gea), experience (Buffon, Reina, Cesar) or a mix of both (Adler or the Dutch guy).

The next target would be a midfielder. I won't be surprised if SAF do a Valencia by signing Adams. He's affordable, he's got EPL experience and he is talented. Rodwell may be an option but the boy is gaining a reputation of being a bit of a sick note and may end up costing a bomb.

Finally I won't be surprised if Ashley Young sign with us. He's on cheap, he is versatile and he's English.

I don't know, but "doing a Valencia" sounds condescending to me. Maybe you don't mean it like that.

Do you really need another winger though?

Park is defensive minded. He's perfect in holding the line but you can't ask him to create the chances we expect from our flank men. Giggs is growing old which means that we've only got two quality attacking minded wingers capable of playing against any team. Bringing in a winger is in my opinion our 3rd priority. On the other hand if we can find a good winger, who can play in various positions and he wouldn't cost a bomb then why not?

Doing a Valencia means for me means getting a good EPL player who wouldn't cost us alot since he's being signed from a small side.

That'll mean the end of Bebe' and Obertan....

So lets wait till we sell both first if they don't make it.

We'll definitely be raiding youngsters, that Belgium lad and maybe a pick from Dortmund's Goetze/Sahin/Kagawa....

De Gea...

We have plenty of reliable options so its gonna be a Hernandez signing mark II so I wouldn't expect much... I think it suits us better anyway...

muppet in me is still going for a Sanchez/Costa/Hazard and either Pastore/Hamsik combo though

AS Roma takeover confirmed. Expect competition for all the big names from Italy.

After Giggs leaves, we won't really have any winger with end product behind Nani and Valencia. Unless we're going to go 4-3-3 or 4-5-1 with Welbeck playing wide, we could do with a third impact winger - a role which Young would be well suited for. It's a question of whether he'd be willing to move here and be a squad member rather than the first name on the team sheet at a smaller club.

Same here. He seems to tick all the boxes in our need for a playmaker.

Well there's one where he might not, but hopefully its not a problem for him. And thats that he plays in a 3 at Dortmund. We dont know that he's as good in a 2 do we? But even if we had to play in a 3 to get the best from him surely it'd be worth it as in that role he could be our Fabregas.

I agree with the Young shout, we could definitely use another winger in the squad. We haven't really been playing with two wingers while Valencia was injured...

besides the winger we could clearly do with a central midfielder.

The goalkeeper situation it will be interesting to see how it turns out, we have Lindengaard (probably spelled that wrong) and PIG, but with all the rumors of him leaving it may be muppet time

How good is Sahin and what type of player is he? Reminds me of Emre, or rather more of Van Der Vaart

Young will be a good signing at 10 million as a sensible alternative if we can't get Sanchez

Playmaker is utterly crucial. It's been neglected for two seasons now, we've pushed it as far we can, to the point where we don't even play like United most of the time.

Creative midfielder must be signed in the Summer, no excuses, no value comments, no 'one for the future' type jargon with this signing. Just a good, old fashioned, ready to go signing.

Better defensively than Emre or Van Der Vart. Unlike these players he just needs someone who defends as much as he does next to him. Whereas Emre and Van Der Vart would need players who do more defending next to them

He's another midfielder who does just about everything well and has a sweet left foot for final passes and shooting on top of it.

Its hard to pick between Sahin and this guy, but I'd just about go with Banega due to knowing his capabilities in a midfield 2. He starts for Argentina next to Mascherano and Cambiasso and plays the "Xavi" role of getting the ball to Messi and the danger men. But he also puts in a tackle and helps defend.

Here's his performance against the U.S at the weekend where Argentina played some fantastic stuff

Banega or Sahin and a keeper and I think we'd have a good chance to beat any team out there.

Not seen much of this guy, but he 'lost' the ball about one time (at the end with that through pass) of all the touches he made the entire match.

I wouldn't be disappointed if we just signed this guy:

He'd be my pick but I don't recall us being linked with him recently.

He's said two or three - so let's play Devil's advocate and say we'll sign just the two. One of those is almost guaranteed to be a goalkeeper, so we're looking at signing just one outfield player. How will the muppets react if Ashley Young or Jack Rodwell are the only outfield additions to the squad?

I'd be dissapointed, I don't rate Young as more than ordinary and while I like Rodwell's potential I think he needs another season of regular football at Everton where he makes himself a regular before any serious money is spent on him, neither solve any of our issues.

I saw that match, he was fantastic, that was the first time i'd seen him play besides youtube clips, but he looked a great player, him or sahin would be great signings.

totally agree with this

with the lack of spending over the last couple of years and the money we've made and can make from one or two possibly leaving in the summer then there is no excuse for not bringing in a quality player even if they are young as well as prospects

the gap with city is closing, roman is spending again and arsenal will always be there or thereabouts

if you added one quality midfielder to our side this year we'd be 10 points clear IMO

Totally wrong. Park can play very attack minded, he's started some big games playing slightly off the front man, and was playing attacking midfield at PSV before coming to United. Yes his defensive ability and tracking back has been utilised to help the fullbacks at times, but he's more versatile than that.

In a spell before going to Asia this year he'd scored 4 in 7 and was one of our best players.

Yes but Park playing for us does not provide the spark or the final ball into the box... Nevertheless, he has played a very important part in the first team ever since he was signed ( Best Asian player in my books )

He also is good in attack like you said, but for a winger that will provide creativity/flair/final ball ala Nani has and Valencia has... Park hasn't been the perfect winger....

But nevertheless, he is an awesome player to have.

I would be pretty satisfied if our only signings are de Gea and Young, tbh.

Not DELIGHTED, but pretty satisfied.

I'd be mortified. We need a midfielder beyond anything else, well, besides a keeper, but De Gea is too young.

If we only make two signings, I would love Neuer and Sahin. Sorted.

Young would be a nice bonus.

He's got great positioning but he lacks of that technique and creativity needed to create the ammount of chances of goal that a typical attacking minded winger would do. I like Park. He can hold the line, he's hardworking and he's fantastic against players like Ronaldo or Messi since he can close them down and give them little breathing space. On the other hand he's not an attacking minded player.

That'll mean the end of Bebe' and Obertan....

So lets wait till we sell both first if they don't make it.

Why? If their good enough, they'll eventually win their place. A 17 yr old Giggs had to compete for a first team place with an English international. He took his chances and won his place. Nowadays promising talent can be loaned to other EPL clubs were they could make a name. Scholes, Giggs and co didn't had that luxury. Your options where to either do well in the limited chances you were given or end up being loaned to some 1st division side were their best strategy is to play long ball football.

If Bebe and Obertan want to make a name at United then they simply have to deliver the goods. You can't play shit against teams like Crawley or fail on giving decent crosses and still be considered a promising United player. It doesn't work that way.

Thats true devilish, but remember, Bebe' has just come our from nowhere and just started doing professional training, Ubers has been out injured for quite some time.

But remember, Giggsy is still there and is playing some top class football, Valencia is back, Nani has been superb, Park is as reliable as ever and we've got good reports from Cleverly and Welbeck not to mention Rafa-Fab did really well playing wingers against Arsenal and from time to time Rooney shifts Left...

We've got so many options...

I'm pretty sure we will focus on the defense as it has been outstanding... but Rio won't last for ages and with Evans being so poor and Vidic/Brown/JOS aging, we might consider a replacement.

MF. Is a must and I can't see OH here unless its a pay for play contract and Scholes still hasn't decided his future...

VDS is gone so a replacement is a certainty so my guess will be

1. De Gea/ Neuer 20m
2. Young prospect MF either DM/CB but versatile and has high potential ( Jack )
3. CB - Established to fill in right away - G.Cahill.

I'm not getting my muppet hope so high because we have done extremely well with young players... but we don't spend 20m ++ for young players as I think SAF tends to risk with quantity first... Hernandez/Diouf both at one go for example... Nani/Ando at the same time...

It'll happen again this season and I think a quick raid will be done similar to OH/Nani/Ando.

Welbeck is a striker, the Da Silva are fullbacks, Giggs did fairly well this year but he's 37 so you can't really rely on him anymore. Cleverley look decent with Wigan but he's nowhere near to what Richardson did at Sunderland + he can play in midfield and I've already gave my assessment about Park. This leave us with just two sure bets and we all know how we missed Valencia when he got injured.

Now my argument is simple. We don't need to spend 30m on a winger. On the other hand there's a certain player available, whose talented, who has EPL experience, who is young, who is versatile (he can play across the entire midfield and forward line) and he wouldn't cost us a bomb. Considering that we've spent 7m on a winger who finds it pretty difficult to give a decent cross then Ashley Young at 12m looks as the bargain of the century. Should we lose such bargain just because of Bebe and Obertan? Lets face it its not as if they set the EPL alight did they?

I hope and believe it will be Anderson's season next season.

And I think GK is the only certain signing assumption we can make.

Realistically I would be satisfied with a world class goal-keeper , Charlie Adam and Young.

I don't think we have the capacity to spend anything more than that.

Andersons been a massive let down as an acm hasn't he really? We need real class to come in.

Glazer conspiracy then?

Its just the way it is.

Fergie too has said he doesn't want to spend too much on big name players.Rather go for younger or cheaper players who could be very good for United.

Ian McGarry (whoever that is):

Agent involved with Neymar has said he met with reps of #MUFC #CFC and #MCFC when in London last weekend. Could see him here soon.

Interesting that #MUFC fans sceptical club have cash for Neymar. Have they spent £80m for for Ronaldo? SAF said he will sign '2 or 3'.

I hear #MUFC will make one 'marquee' signing in summer. A replacement for Scholes. Could be Sneijder but why not Neymar?

Ok. One striker out. One in. SAF planning different formation for next season to increase #MUFC goals. Trying not to give it all away here!

Don't see it either. The last two tweets, minus the Neymar part, are intriguing though. People seem to think he knows at least a little.
