United under LvG: verdict so far!

Epic stuff from a lot of you guys, we play one of the better games in 2 seasons, Valencia gifts a goal and di Maria goes full retard thus we lose. What can LvG do about that?

Taking Herrera off at half time cost us the game.

He took the 1-1 draw at half time with Arsenal fielding 6 attacking players and our leaking defense.

The only link between the midfield and Rooney was Fellaini. Long ball.

You said it. One of the better games...why couldnt we play such "better" games against other teams as well.

I think it might be best to cut our losses with lvg...he is simply not good enough!

For me he brings nothing to the table, tactically inept, poor substitutions (again & again), and he has turned a world class player in Di Maria into an average player. In fact everyone bar De Gea has regressed under him.

De Gea is just keeping up his level of last season.

I agree that taking off Herrera was not the best thing he could do, though I do not know why he did it, could be because of an injury. Anyhow we would not have lost this game if it were not for Di Maria and Valencia. A coach cannot control personal errors. The game could have gone either way, especially of Arse got the red they deserved. I do not think it is fair to stick this loss due to tactical errors, but thats me.

Some of the saves he has made this season have been out of this world....In fact if it wasn't for him we would be mid table at best!

If he decides to leave, won't be surprised if he did, then I sincerely hope Woody retaliates by firing lvg.

However a coach can control the attacking momentum his team has in the game.

In the second half, can you name one clear cut chance we had?

He is being overly cautious and more concerned with stifling the opposition than setting us up to dictate things at the moment. I still think he is the right man but he also needs to reassess his approach.

I really thought he would have brought on Januzaj for Young earlier. Didn't think central mid was the biggest of our concerns in the first half. I wish we could play Arsenal more often though, they are a very good template for the kind of possession based football LVG wants from us.

You can't control personal errors, but you go for the win. We certainly looked like we'd decided to surrender control of the game with the subs and the plan seemed to be to make Di Maria run behind them for the long through balls, it nearly worked moments before the winner but that's no plan for our club. We were more in control at half time, it was just a daft substitution bringing on Carrick, making our midfield more slow and ponderous.

Van Gaal absolutely messed up last summers window but credit to him - only Rojo has looked a man utd player.....I don't think it's Van Gaas fault that Di Maria and Falcao have been a disaster.......when you make big name signings of that quality you are never guaranteed it's going to work out......but Van Gaal will improve us no end this summer.....we won't finish in the top 4 at the end of the season.....but I still think Van Gaal can sign players like Depay, Bender and Marquinhos in the summer to make us a top 4 team again come the end of next season

The squad is shit. Doesnt matter if you have Rooney, Falcao, RVP, Mata and Di maria when Smalling is your best defender and Young is starting you've got big problems.

There's no point sacking him if we can't get anyone better. But it's pretty hard to be positive about him all the same. I don't really believe in him anymore but at the same time I don't see anyone else getting us out of this mess. Basically, I think we're pretty fecked. Yeah, I'm all rays of sunshine right now.

With all due respect, what makes you think he is the right man? He has nothing to warrant another season here. I'm not for chopping and changing managers but this can't continue either.

Please tell me your not serious? Is this what this club has come to now, spending £350million to finish 4th?

This, but add to the fact we play so slow and static it then stifles our creative talent, wouldn't matter if we still had Ronaldo the way we play, he wouldn't look anything great either

I think too many of our players are really soft and mentally fragile.

There is no real grit or leader in the team, and I think that is a real problem.

''The team needs time to settle, you can't be sacking managers''

Absolute bullshit, we'd have made top 4 last season and we'd be challenging for the title this season had we appointed Mourinho. I lost trust in LVG earlier in the season but I feel with our upcoming league games his faith is sealed.

At the moment all he has is his track record, and as a club we can't allow ourselves to enter into an annual recycling of managers. The thing is we fecked up big time by not appointing Mourinho when SAF retired and at the moment there aren't enough big enough managers (realistically obtainable) to step into the hot seat.

Biggest complaint I have today was how high Arsenal pressed us before their 2nd goal, they had that slowcoach German CB up on the half way line, they were so comfortable with leaving almost half a pitch in behind them, LvG should have seen that.
That allowed them to press us high and Valencia ballsed up and cost us the game.

Everything else Im less bothered about its hard to win regardless when you make 3 individual errors that cost goals/red cards in a match.

I would sack him ASAP if I was in charge if he doesn't get top four. I don't trust him to win titles, what United should be doing, so managing us while dwindling to shite performances and costly draws/defeats is pointless.

I'd much rather see him sacked than give him time as he's shown me nothing that makes me think he's good enough to manage us.
Really? And who exactly are you going to hire to replace him?

Yeh I had my "Moyes moment" with him a few weeks ago, I said as much in this thread. He doesn't have the "dead man walking" feel that Moyes did after the Everton game, but it seems an invitability nonetheless.

He's done. He won't be here next September.

I think we'll get top four. That will do, all things considered. Anything other than that would merit LvG getting the sack. Although Keane does have a point. Constantly sacking managers won't do much good, especially when you consider that there aren't that many (any?) better managers to replace him.

I think we'll push on next year, and that's what he will be judged on. This year was all about top four and he's on track to get that. So I'm not going to criticise him over playing style, etc. I'll save that for next year if nothing improves.

Liverpool game is that moment, I sense it.

Its all about that top 4. Then if they do, signing about 5 first teamers in the Summer. Our defending is a joke.

We have 7 subs on the bench. One of them is a keeper so it doesn't count.

My strategy for subs: Van Gaal choose his 3 subs. And then puts on the pitch the other three players. Guaranteed that it will work better than his subs.

His track record is history though. What has he done at this club to warrant a future? Regardless of the other options available.

Young has been very good, regardless of what you think of him.

Young has raised his peformance level this season and has shown impressive character which I admire him for. There is a bigger issue though, he still isnt good enough for the clubs expectations.

Dind'nt mean to single him out btw as he has beeen good this season. Could have used Valencia, Fellaini or Jones as other examples.

Honestly I feel like Giggs would be a better option.
