The new galactico is Asensio. Can see him being as good as Hazard in a year or two, if not better.[/QUOTE

Is a talent for sure. Makes the Hazard links strange for me. I know they always want the next big thing but they have Asensio, another young Spaniard that I have forgotten the name of, Bale, Isco and then Rodriguez that couldnt even get on the bench. Hazard is obviously a very good player but is he a level above any of them?
I think there is more truth in the Morata being sold to make way for an Mbappe bid. Benzema isnt getting any younger and has been very good for Madrid, to remain there first choice striker for so long is an achievement but that is the one position I think they can sign am improvement upon....well sadly along with replacing the keeper with DeGea.

Right, transfer fees have shifted since 2001.

i know, even adjusted for inflation (~ 50m pounds), De Gea leaving for 66m pounds would be THE world record by a long margin. You have to go back to buffon for a keeper worth that much, that's my point.

Yes 33m for Buffon in 2001 I would say is more like a 90-100m transfer now. I remember at the time thinking that is crazy for a keeper even though he was already brilliant at Parma. Looking at it now, what a fantastic deal it was for Juventus.

To put the De Gea figure into perspective, if De Gea left for 66m pounds, he beats the world transfer record (adjusted for inflation) for a goalkeeper by ~15m pounds and would be for sold around the same price as suarez. Making him one of the top 5 most expensive signings in football.

~50 million pounds adjusted for inflation.

Right. But that transaction did not happen in £ it happened in €. So factor into it the falling value of the Pound against the Euro and you will work out that actually he's not more expensive than Buffon at all.

Buffon cost ~€50m in 2001 which is around €70m in today's money adjusted for CPI inflation. We're merely asking to match prices from 16 years ago. Football price inflation has been much higher than CPI inflation too.

I think that price is very reasonable and not at all off putting or warding off. Think how much we'd have to spend to sign Courtois, Oblak or Neuer

I hope Jose knows what he is doing. Simply putting pressure on Woodward won't help him in the end if the next season doesn't go well. Woodward will still be the CEO, but Jose's future and managerial legacy will be under scrutiny big time next season. He needs to get involved actively and do his part to get those desired targets convinced about joining us.

How has he done that?

Yep, the players we're linked to the most:

Michael Keane
Ivan Perisic
Eric Dier

That is absolutely abysmal, given our circumstances. If that turns out to be our crop of signings, we'll finish 5th at best next season. The only comfort I'm taking from this is, Jose is a serial winner and that list doesn't look like the wishlist of a serial winner. Surely he would aim higher than that.

It really is abysmal. A defender who isn't as good as any of our centre backs; a limited winger who is less talented than the ostracised Martial and a limited midfielder who isn't as talented as Herrera.

That would be a grim window which wouldn't improve our first eleven and would do nothing to improve our attack.

How has he done that?

I was going to ask the same question. A relaxed Mourinho said that he needed some time with football out of his mind and that Woodward had his list, and people interpret it as a dig or Mourinho putting pressure on Woodward.

Today Griezmann ratifies/confirms that is staying at Atlético. Sandro, first signing for Atleti. 6m€

Big difference in Serie A was a powerhouse when Zlatan was there. Now its more of a 1 club league and when morata is at that 1 club, even worse stats!

Of course their are variables. Stats don't tell a full story, but people like to use stats to knock Morata down.
I could even argue that in a weakish dutch league, Zlatan didn't manage 15 goals in his 3 seasons there

Don't know why we get our knickers in such a twist. I think we are going to sign 3-5 very good players who will improve us big time this summer. Just wait and see before judging and jumping up and down the window has not kicked in for any team apart from City and Milan.

Do you rate Morata as a player to improve us?

But the players they sell are top players and have gone on to win many things being vital cogs in the teams
Yeah, in many cases. They do have a "shiny new thing" tendency but Bale is a crucial part of their team as well as their marketing activities.

And Kuyt had an amazing record.

I personally dont fancy morata at United.

Griezmann not coming, Bale not leaving, Fabinho being linked to others. Not a good muppet day.

I'm struggling to think who we can get that will make us compete with Spurs City and Chelsea.

I trust Jose but am very worried. No Zlatan and not a fan of the names being touted. Where are the goals going to come from?

We need to score atleast 20 more than this season aswell.

I think we need to stay away from RM. Theres plenty of talent out there without dealing with those cnuts.
