£100m+ on fullbacks and they will still have Stones at CB.

With their new GK, Walker, Mendy, Stones and Otamendi thats roughly £210m on a defence that doesnt exactly scream clean sheets

They dont need clean sheets as long as their attack can score one more goal than the opponent. Hence the pursuit of Sanchez.

Because they don't have enough attacking talent as it is?
Their striker situation is very iffy. Aguero is always injured. They dont have a good backup. If Aguero gets injured, Sanchez will play as a #9 aka the Messi's false 9 role. Otherwise he will stick to the wing.

Gabriel Jesus?

Eh, strongly disagree. In fact I don't expect Aguero will even be 1st choice going into the season. Jesus will most likely be starting up front. Then they have de Bruyne and Sane who looked excellent at the end of last season as well as David Silva and new signing Bernardo Silva and then they have Sterling who's not on that level but still offers more depth.

Ah shit forgot about Jesus!
ST - Aguero, Jesus
LW - Sanchez, Sane
CAM - Silva, KDB
RW - Sterling, Silva

Tbf, that would have been too big of a risk. I've heard very good things about Maia and what I have seen of him looks good but the difference in quality between the Brazilian league and Premier League is huge. Better to wait a couple seasons. If he performs in Ligue 1 he's definitely one to watch for the future.

EDIT: Actually I just recently thought about Strootman. Strange we haven't gone back for him. He seemed to do very well for Roma last season
Nothing wrong with taking a few risks. It's better playing a big talent like him than Fellaini.

If we had more depth in the position I think I'd agree with you but since we'd be relying on him to start pretty consistently it's better to get someone more proven.

Yet they still wouldn't win the league because Pep has no intention of developing a team that can defend

they'll start favourites to win the league and I can't see anyone stopping them. especially with their fullback and gk upgrade

So basically the exact same thing people were saying at the start of last season

I'm ever so jealous of that depth

It's more a surfeit than depth. Anyone of those players not starting has to wonder why. Is Pep the kind of manager that motivates the bench player to step in and work his socks off?

No. And many a game, that's the player that determines tight outcomes. And why someone like Jose or Fergie is the better man manager and has been able to turn good decent players into integral cogs in title winning teams.

The fact is that he has the players, which is what we can work with now. Whether He or Jose can motivate whatever players, will be seen come the end of the season.

What a fantastic manager pep is, it's unbelievable how well he does when he's either got two squads of the two best teams in the world or spends 500 billionty pounds on every top player possible, I just don't know how he does it, he's a bloody genius.

He wouldn't add pace at all. The idea of squad depth isn't to add more of the same but to add different options.

He brings an ability to beat a man with a trick we lack this imo. Do I want him? Not really but I could understand why we bought him if he joins. I'm all for going all out on Dembele but he might be impossible so Mahrez would certainly work for us when we are struggling to break down teams at OT.

I've read on a few different websites that Mahrez's contract does not have a release clause on it. I reckon Utd should throw in a £20m - £30m bid for him. You simply won't find a player with his skillet for that amount.

Let's keep deceiving ourselves. :)

That team is gradually looking unstoppable.

INTER INTEREST IN NAINGGOLAN CONFIRMED

Luciano Spalletti has confirmed Inter are trying to buy Radja Nainggolan from Serie A rivals Roma.

"That is something the directors are working on," Spalletti told reporters after Inter's pre-season friendly defeat to Nurnberg on Saturday.

"As I said, we need to let certain situations mature and Nainggolan is one of them. It has been talked about and the directors are keeping that in mind."

After seeing us play our first friendly, as much as I think we could be getting a higher quality of player, Perisic would be very useful in delivering crosses to Lukaku/our forwards based on how we play. We do seem to be lacking that option more than anything else

Still, they can only get 11 players at a time into the field, and they still haven't signed Messi. Feck them.
