Transfer Tweets - Summer 2017 | Keep it on topic

Mourinho's logic is taking an older winger to complement a young and still promising Martial, and also a younger defensive preferably English midfielder to prepare for Carrick's goodbye and challenge Herrera. Seems very expensive, but maybe you pay more for being picky.

Said last year Dier was the player I wanted from all premier league clubs.

He's an anchoring player that will sit in grant of the back 4. We don't need more than that and the money isn't mine so spend it how we see fit.

Peresic I'm not convinced on bit can't see another hard working left winger on the market so, again I understand why we're pursuing it.

3 at the back with Dier stepping forward it is then.
Not what's going to happen. If we sign him, I'm pretty sure we'll keep 4-2-3-1 and he'll fight with Herrera, and also play the most defensive 4-3-3 games.

Dier is so.....average. I just don't get it.

I remember when we signed Carrick. Average and nothing special was something people said that time. They obviously don't feel the same anymore. That said, no one knows the future, but I think Dier has something that is worth exploring if we get him.

It's only a matter of stepping back if Dier does play, it's not a rigid decision.
Bailly has played a lot at RB, Lindelof can be the ball playing central cb with the ball and Rojo can be our left sided centreback because of his experience at lb.
Now we could have Dier who is a centre half playing as DM.
He drops back when we don't have the ball, steps forward when we do to make it a back 3.
It's the only way signing Perisic makes sense to me. We're sticking with these players despite the enormous fees for a reason.

I don't agree we are going three at the back, if that's what you're saying. And I can't understand the part about Perišić: you mean he doesn't make sense in our last season setup?

I think it's a Manchester hack writing what his readers wanna hear? The players had no problem signing the contracts do have no reason to believe they are all unhappy. We don't have the reasourses at this point to offer the contracts of the richer clubs. Levy won't sell unless Poch oks the deal. I'm not that concerned this summer but clearly we need silverware soon.

Carrick has been a good servant and has grown on me, but throughout the years I always felt we could've done better as well, but that's another discussion. And I know you're trying to highlight that sometimes "average" players turn out alright but, personally, I need more than that...Dier is just....

Btw, we've been tracking Dier for a long time, since his Sporting days, and he is a United fan and did say he'd find it hard to say no to a move to Old Trafford.

If tradition is anything to go by, it lends credence to the claim that we are interested in him.

If dier turned out to even be close to as good or successful as carrick then he would be a fantastic signing

I was initially against the idea of signing Perisic and Dier/Matic and they still probably wouldn't be the players I'd sign if I was the manager, but you know what? I say we get them in and trust Jose.

The Lukaku deal has put to bed any discontent anyone had with the way we were doing business this summer, look at the way we got that deal done almost in silence until it was agreed. A week ago today he was supposedly nailed on for Chelsea and none of us knew anything about it so those trying to criticise Woodward need to get a grip, he's succeeded with just about every target we've had over the last few years.

A lot of you also talk like Perisic and Dier are totally average players, have you actually watched them? They're not. They are very good players who I've no doubt Jose has thought about and scouted thoroughly to make sure he'd fit into his way of thinking and I'd back them to do a good job if they sign.

If we get those in we can relax, work on our shape and tactics and then if something special presents itself later in the window then let's go for it.

They look like very good players, not top players, though, that should be what we are trying to get. That's why I say we're paying lots of money for squad players.

Who are these top players you want instead? I don't see any available in those positions. They aren't squad players either they would be in the first XI if they were bought. Jose wants a team that functions as a well oiled machine not just a bunch of star names, we've tried that it's hardly been that successful really has it?

Like I said, if I was the manager right now I'd probably want Fabinho and Dembele, and I'd go hard for Sanchez but Mourinho is the one who will live by the sword and die by the sword so I just feel that he's earned our trust, we should embrace it.

This Perisic pursuit has gone on for ages now.we should have decided to pay up or move on by now as Inter have no real reason to drop the price now.

What is with the strange briefing?Smokescreen?

I'm also not sure what Qui ca means.

I know he's banned from here but the Bakayoko tweet seems real, although it has now been deleted.

They might want to secure the alternatives. Yes, the Italian press talks about Inter having to buy two players for the Croatian.

Oui ça means that's it. But could be ironical or just teasing, I guess.

Could this potentially be the most underwhelming £100m ever spent

I think he was joking but Chelsea fans may have taken it the wrong way so promptly deleted it.

I think Dier could turn out to be a very good signing, lets be honest if we bought carrick now no one would be excited and look at the success he´s had at the club

I don't recall that much excitement when he actually signed back in the day.
