Well its unlikely that Chelsea or Arsenal were offering for him so Everton are clearly the next best team in the Prem. Not that an amazing sign of loyalty, I'm sure most would rather join Everton than West han

Well a) we haven't signed either yet, so you've no idea what the spending is
and b) the reported fees wanted by the clubs are $50m and €80m, not pounds. That's £44m and £70m. Those fees represent a much smaller percentage of our income than similar fees do for Arsenal and Liverpool.
Reports from yesterday are saying we bid £39m and Inter rejected it because they want £50. Regarding Morata, every outlet has said all along Madrid wanted €90m.

Frankly, I don't really care about what we pay as long as it doesn't prevent us from signing other targets. I just want us to bring in the right players.

£50m for Perisic when a better and younger Salah went for £36m and £80m for Morata when Lacazette is going for £50m would be bad buisness imo. Hopefully this reckless spending won't come back to haunt us.

Perisic is a better player for what we need. Salah is fast, but Perisic can defend and track back, beat a man and actually pick out a cross rather than just put his head down and hope. He's the sort of player we need, but not flashy and a bit old for the money.

Morata is also a better fit for us, and a better player than Lacazette.

I don't care where he goes as long as we're not paying his wages anymore

Ha ha, surprise surprise!

Said the other day that in the long term, given the amount of money that is riding on us having a good season this year, it is probably not worth the pain of haggling over a few million if it risks us not having the players available for a full preseason. Obviously every player has got to have a ceiling price and I can maybe understand being reluctant to spend so much on the likes of Perisic, but in the context of what Lukaku is likely to go for the amount that Madrid want for Morata seems about the going rate. If we truly believe that he has it in him to be a world star (which we clearly do as we're trying to sign him) then his value will increase hugely anyway....look at what Higuain went for last year...

Higuain had a buyout clause and is a proven goal scorer and a regualar for his country. Look at lacazette's price

Aside from a handful of clubs like Everton and Milan, this has been a slow transfer window all round.

No need to panic yet.

yes, that's why I wrote: "If we truly believe that he has it in him to be a world star (which we clearly do as we're trying to sign him) then his value will increase hugely anyway."

My point was that if he does well for us over a couple of seasons then his price will increase. Look at what Lukaku will sell for this summer.

Thy finished above us last season. You'd have good reason to be 'worried' even if they signed no players at all.

We dont have to be worried, we just have to be cautious and do our buisness properly and target the right players.

And why would Mourinho care about the financial aspect of the deals? He's the manager, not the CFO. He wants certain players at a certain point time, regardless of the costs for the club. I'm very pro-Mourinho, but this logic doesn't rule out that he did actually leak his discontent to the press because first and foremost, he'll be interested in his own success, not in the long's long-term financial health.

I couldn't agree with you more.

The moment Jose went public about having submitted his list to Woody months ago and the need for Woody to get to work, I knew there was trouble looming. Saying that in public just got me very curious.

I'm afraid this is not likely going to end well. The seeds of future feuds have been sown considering Jose's history unless Woody is just a super nice chap. Jose seems like a guy who has always wanted one thing and one thing only in football: to win. And he builds and destroys to achieve that. Whoever gets in his way, will get trampled. I can imagine that all that matters to him right now is to have his full squad ready for the pre-season preparations. Nothing else will make sense to him. He will not care about Woody's excuses or reasons at all. He will not 'understand'.

Let's hope I am wrong though. There aare certainly positive sides to all these. Maybe Woody might just start moving a lot faster now.

I don't think it's even a particularly slow window. My memory might be failing me, but I don't think generally that a huge amount has been done by the beginning of July most years. Obviously fans and managers want all the players in before pre-season starts, but that's never a given.

Doesn't help that our pre-season is also starting a week or two earlier than normal this year!

This is why this leak was such a bad idea.
Poor form by Mourinho.

I am not convinced this has anything to do with any leak. Madrid was never going to shift. They have held on stubbornly for months, leak or no leak.

That is why I think that article was bs.

Surely Jose would've thought of the consequences. Yes, on one side you put pressure on Ed to deliver, but, at the same time, you make it known to every club that Ed will be desperate and you can hold on for more money.

So it is all so certain that Jose 'leaked'? Just because Duncan wrote the article?

Which histroy? Pogba history?

Yes. You thought we weren't setting a precedent with breaking a record for Pogba? He wasn't even close to 89m in market worth. Obviously we sent a message to the transfer market that we gave zero feck about fees.

I think if we don't sign a player to play behind the striker this summer, we'll go back for Griezmann next summer.

That's just one unique instance, and for a player with enormous talents and ability which the midfeild desperately needed after scholes and giggs retirement.
