Transfer Tweets - Summer 2017 | Keep it on topic

With mourinho making bit of a fuss it seems. Inevitable. We end up paying 45-50 million for. Perisic and 60-70 million for Morata.

Crazy fees both would be. Though if we end up paying them. Mourinho would have no excuses and would be expected To deliver either pl or cl.

Fans of every big club will say the same about their manager. However, only one team can win the PL. I don't think anyone is under the illusion that we should compete for the CL yet. We're years behind other teams and probably hundreds of millions worth of spending in today's market.

Deleted ITK accounts posts. Also that Rafael Hernandez dude isn't a journalist or something. Don't post his tweets too.

People will be threadbanned from now on if they don't go by the the rules of this thread.
Hernandez was allowed in previous windows. Whilst he isn't a journalist he has contacts in particular with Barcelona and at times has posted Barca news before mainstream outlets.

I followed him. Once the news hits mainstream news, he tries to pass it through as his own news.

We have spent hundreds of millions on par with anyone in last 3 windows.

Meanwhile last 2 winners Of Pl spent way less than us actually. So this hundreds of. Millions needed to win or challenge for pl logic is bogus if indeed Mourinho is as top a Manager as is made out and also gets the overpaid targets he wants after which he would have bought a whole new team almost.

And even in Cl Juve and real oratletico the finalists of last 2 years havent spent even Near to us in same period.

We finished sixth in the PL. The addition of two players will not lead to us winning the CL. I don't care if it's Messi and Ronaldo.

The difference being, they spent well.

The Leicester example holds but Chelsea doesn't. They spent big under Mou, won the title and spent under Conte as well (Luiz, Kante, Batshuayi, Alonso, anyone?). They had a title-winning squad, no Europe and then won the PL with fewer additions than us - who played EL and added just 4 players to a team that had finished 7, 4 and 5 in past seasons. So the comparison is unfair in my opinion, leaving only Leicester as a valid example to which one says, "The exception proves the rule".

Ha ha, surprise surprise!

Said the other day that in the long term, given the amount of money that is riding on us having a good season this year, it is probably not worth the pain of haggling over a few million if it risks us not having the players available for a full preseason. Obviously every player has got to have a ceiling price and I can maybe understand being reluctant to spend so much on the likes of Perisic, but in the context of what Lukaku is likely to go for the amount that Madrid want for Morata seems about the going rate. If we truly believe that he has it in him to be a world star (which we clearly do as we're trying to sign him) then his value will increase hugely anyway....look at what Higuain went for last year...

This could so easily end up being a Moyesesque window. Good job we got Lindelof in early.

£50m for Perisic when a better and younger Salah went for £36m and £80m for Morata when Lacazette is going for £50m would be bad buisness imo. Hopefully this reckless spending won't come back to haunt us.

It's really quite impressive how many times the rags can regurgitate the same 'story' on a daily basis. Morata all day, every day.

Salah suits Liverpool and Lacazette suits Arsenal. You don't just go out and buy anyone, they have to suit how you want your team to play. There are loads of players in the past who were great players, but might not have been what we needed.

I probably missed something, when did we pay £50m for Perisic and £80m for Morata?

This is why this leak was such a bad idea.
Poor form by Mourinho.
To play Devil's advocate though, are you saying that without this, Madrid would have bent over or assumed that Jose didn't want players till Aug 31? Not saying the leak helped, but can't see what it changed.

I think it's more got todo with us tooting our horns about being the richest club in the world.

That is why I think that article was bs.

Surely Jose would've thought of the consequences. Yes, on one side you put pressure on Ed to deliver, but, at the same time, you make it known to every club that Ed will be desperate and you can hold on for more money.

Well a) we haven't signed either yet, so you've no idea what the spending is
and b) the reported fees wanted by the clubs are $50m and €80m, not pounds. That's £44m and £70m. Those fees represent a much smaller percentage of our income than similar fees do for Arsenal and Liverpool.

Aye sorry I thought Greame Bailey used to be somewhat reliable.

Yeah he's okay. He's a journalist who used to work for Sky in the past and thus has somewhat decent contacts.

It's not about the website or newspaper, it's about journalist. Castles writes for Daily Record in Scotland and yet is perceived to be most reliable.

Again talk about this 'leak' and putting pressure on Ed :D What did Mou said we didn't already know? That he handed a list of targets to Ed? Surprise surprise... That we ideally want new players before going to the tour? Another surprise... :D

It doesn't matter how much younger or how much better you feel Salah is, or for that matter Lacazette. There is a reason we weren't linked to either players and it's simply because they aren't the kind of player suited to Jose's plans. There are dozens of players better than Perisic in that position, that are probably cheaper too, but they aren't who Jose wants so lets trust his judgement and give him the benefit of the doubt.

You have people complaining that we've not signed anyone and pre-season starts soon, then you and other complain about reckless spending. The prices of these players is exactly the reason we haven't signed all of our targets yet.

People need to relax. We have our targets and the club are obviously trying to sign them for the best price possible, we're a business at the end of the day.

And why would Mourinho care about the financial aspect of the deals? He's the manager, not the CFO. He wants certain players at a certain point time, regardless of the costs for the club. I'm very pro-Mourinho, but this logic doesn't rule out that he did actually leak his discontent to the press because first and foremost, he'll be interested in his own success, not in the long's long-term financial health.

I somewhat agree with you, but Real had many years of excessive spending without accomplishing much in the CL.

I think he would've discussed the transfer budget with Ed and the owners before choosing the payers he wanted.

We were going to sign Griezmann remember. Think we might have got Morata as well. That would have been great. Problem I have is I am happy with Morata, but just don't think he is enough. Not with a kid as the other option and a lad who is great at football but always looks like he hates playing.
