Wait, why do I see so many posts of Ronaldo being our main striker/target man IF he returns? He is not, and never will be, a lone striker for us. If he returns, he will take up one of the places on the wings, nominally, like what he does at Real and what he did before. He is one of the world's best players, but back towards goal and running the channels is not something he is good at. Getting Ronaldo without Morata just defeats the purpose.

I agree with you. Even if Ronaldo comes back to United, he'll still play on the left. Also, we'll definitely sign one of Morata or Belotti to play as our striker. Ronaldo is called a Target Man, not because of the position he plays in, but for the role he plays. Ronaldo is not a winger anymore. He actually plays a very free-role at Real Madrid. He drifts all around the box and Benzema/Bale adapt according to his movement. The understanding they have is one of the reasons why their attack is so dynamic. Ronaldo's movement, physical presence and abilities make him the best Target Man ever. Of course, to bring the best out of him, we too should deploy 433 with a 3-man attack where the other two are dynamically synchronous with him. But, one thing is for sure – he'll not play the role he once used to play for us, on the wing. He'll play only in the box, and that too as a left inside-forward with a free-role.

Yes, so we have to get Morata deal over the line first, because if Ronaldo leaves before him, I think he will want to stay at Real instead, or Real will just push the price up even further. Without Morata, getting Ronaldo alone with no one to lead the line will be a waste. After the Morata deal is done, and maybe confirmation that Ronaldo wants to return (come on SAF, get on the phone!), then we can think about asking Real for him and allocating our Perisic and other transfer funds into a CR7 return.

If you look at Ronaldo's heat map in the final he was basically the lead striker if I remember rightly?

In record breaking terms, PSG might not be a bad idea at all. There, he would win a league title in yet another country and score loads of goals. He may even inspire them to a CL title. And of course, money won"t be a problem there.

He was, because the actual lead striker in their lineup, Benzema, was pulling CBs out of position with his runs and hold up play in the channels. Expecting a formation where Ronaldo starts upfront on his own is a disaster waiting to happen. We need to have a lead striker who can hold up the ball, win headers, run the channels and of of course, score goals as well, before we can even consider Ronaldo returning.

His passing range is very limited and he chooses the safe pass 9/10 times. He's certainly not creative enough to make a 433 with dier look potent.

Dont agree at all...you think that just because his role in the team is such that he doesnt get the opportunity to do it. He played off the striker during the last season at Bilbao.

He gets the opportunity on occasion, when he plays those searching through balls. He's clearly not a limited passer.

I'm not sure about that, he's certainly nowhere near as expansive as somebody like Pogba or Scholes when it comes to passing, but he's a quick thinker and can spot runs when people make them.

He also delivers some great first time crosses from deep when he drifts over to the right.

PSG are only relevant because they have a sugar daddy. Playing in France would be a waste of time. It might be 'fun' but PSG would win the league by 30 odd points and he would face a ton of players he don't even know. What's more fun? Trying to win the CL with PSG, and they're not really that close....or overtake Rooneys record or even match it. I think we know what the better challenge is. Unfortunately, he don't like the weather here but if we can convince him of climate change then you never know ;) lol

passing up on Fabinho to be quoted £50M for Dier? Letting City snap up Silva to show interest on Gomes? Not showing interest on Costa while continuously pursuing Perisic? :(

i hope none of these are true

Thank god.

He had plenty of opportunity to step up and get creative when Pogba was injured; yet our midfield looked like a reenactment of an LVG wet dream.

Don't anger the Herrera fanboys.

Too late :wenger:

The same Douglas Costa that is not highly rated by Bayern fans at all and most of them on reddit are happy to accept 40m Euros for him.

So we're gonna drop an almost complete deal with Morata to pursue an almost impossible deal for Ronaldo?

We're likely to miss out on both of them at this rate.

That's not the reason, the reason would be Real not wanting to sell one striker whilst another is throwing a strop.

Imagine Real Madrid selling Ronaldo to PSG, and wanting Morata to stay. That would be a double blow.

We have to hope Ed W and Mou is on the ball. We can't afford being dragged into a chase for Ronaldo all summer if it's not realistic.

I had hoped for a calm summer where we got most of our targets in before the tour, guess that ain't happening. Now I only hope that our management have control of the situation. And if we want Ronaldo, we get assurances as fast as possible if he want to come here.

I personally think we should drop any interest in any RM player and move on to other targets. We just can't keep letting them play us like strings.

BBC Sport: Ronaldo reportedly told his agent Mendes two months ago that he was in trouble with his tax bill and needed to get the money out of Madrid to pay it

People are crazy if they think that costa is some world class footballer. Other than the 2 months under Pep he has been as effective as Memphis has for us.

I hope that if Ronaldo signs a new contract and we lose Morata, people will stop swooning over Ronaldo. He might be a great footballer but he is completely about himself. I am seriously worried that we will be left with no signing up front and that will be down to this guy. I hope I am wrong and Ronaldo is the wronged party, but we have seen similar from him in the past.

I understand why is Ronaldo upset, he feels what every tax payer person lives in a corrupted country do, he feels he is paying taxes to make the corrupted get richer, while this is not the case in England and northern Europe.

Hopefully he has not been dinning with Mr. Trump.
