How do you know? Edit: That the clause has not changed.

Marca said that the clause wasn't reduced but they don't really say if it's the same. You could guess that it's the case.

If a rumor from reliable journo is true (release clause stays the same) then clearly he wants out (Madrid would want a higher clause for sure).

Likely, but a year is a long time in football. He's just another player who wants to leave at the end of the season, like he was last season it appears, like Mbappé probably will be this season. But things change. For a start, if he does his cruciate next March he's going nowhere.

Calciomercato are rubbish to be honest. United were never linked with him by a reliable source.
We've watched him for years though, since Fergie days. I think we even made a offer for him at youth level. Possible Mourinho isn't interested though and you're probably right, it is lazy journalism.

Yeah thats a long time ago, i doubt we are interested, but who knows

"...the great priority of the player was that the new contract would respect the termination clause that had already been fixed and finally has not changed. That is, Antoine Griezmann will continue in Atlético Madrid until 2022, but if any club arrives willing to put on the table one hundred million euros could try his signing."

Well that sucks if true. Dier isn't happening either, so who else is likely to be on that list of his? We've hardly been linked with any DM's beyond Fabinho/Dier.

Edit: I guess Matic has been mentioned too. Can't see us signing any player from PL rivals though, so point still stands. DM might be the Bailly like left field signing of this summer.

I dont even get the logic of the article

We are after a long term replacement for Carrick, so are targeting the older Matic (28) for this, rather then the younger Fabinho(23).

I'm not saying we are in for either, but the logic there is flawed

Matic for £40m according to the article. Disappointing if true.

Queue the outrage from a section of posters that others want a player that the manager doesn't want. How can anyone dear have a different view from the manager?!
Its fine to have a differing view but to act like we're not going to compete just because we don't sign the muppet wet dream makes this place feel bi-polar at times.

Not every we buy has to be young. 28 is a perfectly reasonable age.

Matic will be surplus to requirements at Chelsea once they sign Bakayoko so I don't think they'd mind selling him to us at the right price, it's not like they're selling us Hazard or whatever.

I'm not saying we have to.

What I am saying is in his article he clearly states we are after a long term replacement for Carrick. I would say someone who is 28(29 by the time the season starts) isn't someone I would consider long term.

All I am saying is, that his reasoning and logic as to why we'd be after Matic is flawed.

So much outrage it has to queue up to get vented.

I hope we get Fabinho, imo the best target out there for us. However if we get another good player for the DM position I won't be too fussed about it. But plz sign a decent DM because another season of Carrick playing way more than he should is something I really can't deal with.

If not Fabinho I think Matic is nailed on for us

Matic was outstanding the season before last to be fair. He's 28, not 38, and has a lot left to give.
Yes but for the same money, we can get someone just as good, 5 years younger and also have UCL semi-final experience. Oh,, also he will want to play well to be chosen as a starter for the selecao in the world cup.

Matic, like Perisic, is a good player that would improve our team. But he won't appease the FM muppets because he's not a shiny foreign flavour of the month.

This lazy argument again.

Im indifferent to Matic but its not every time that people dont want a player simply because of video games.

That has just become the lazy retort around here for everyone without a good counter argument.

Yeah, he's not a bad player or anything but he's really only had the one outstanding season in 2014/15 to go with one awful season in 2015/16 and a decent one last season.
