Transfer Tweets - Summer 2017 | Keep it on topic

According to the papers, the most reliable news so far is that we are in for 5 players this summer. At first, this list didn't seem to make any sense. But then, I started tinkering and realized that this would be the perfect list for Mourinho's system.

I feel, JM is going for this 433 formation –

Belotti
Perisic_________Morata

Pogba_______________Herrera
Fabinho

Shaw____Lindelof____Bailly____Valencia

DDG

It all makes sense because, we went in for Morata only after Griezmann pledged his loyalty to Atletico Madrid. Replace Morata with Griezmann in the above formation and we'll have the most formidable 433 lineup in the Europe.

We were never interested in dealing with Real Madrid, due to the bitterness involving DDG. But as a last minute gasp, we are being forced to go for Morata. And, Morata isn't a bad second-choice either. Mourinho developed the player at RM and he mostly deployed him as a dynamic attacker drifting in and around Ronaldo. So, he is fluid enough to holdup the play as well as make smart runs. Who knows, with enough desire, he might actually become better than Griezmann.

In Pogba and Herrera, we have the best shuttling-midfielders in the world. And, 433 is the only system which seems to bring the best out of Pogba. Given the age of Michael Carrick, we need a new holding-midfielder and after his impressive performances this season at Monaco, Fabinho fell into the radar. Fabinho is the surprise signing Mourinho spoke during the season as he wasn't on the radar until the last stages of UCL. In my opinion, Fabinho has a great game-awareness and is an impressive tackler. He seems like the best 'water carrier' at the moment.

We've created good number of chances last-season from the midfield. But, our main problem was that there wasn't a good bridge between midfield and attack. Our right flank was okay, partly due to the brilliance of Antonio Valencia. But, our left flank was very poor. We didn't have a solid full back on the left side and there was no one who could tirelessly convert defense into attack. We deployed Young, Martial, Lingard, Rashford, Mkhitaryan and Rooney on our left wing. But, they were either too absorbed defending or too tired to keep going at the defenders and completing the take-ons. That's why, we are going in for Perisic. Even though he has only 2 or 3 seasons left at his peak, he is lightning quick, tirelessly successful in take-ons and unashamed to trackback. I think he's been our No. 1 priority for the summer since Christmas.

We need a Target-man. Someone tall, strong, physical, fast with great anticipation and finishing. Trust me people, I've followed all the top scorers across the top 5 leagues in Europe. There's no one better than Belotti. He's a star in the making and he's a box-office finisher. He's got the physical presence of Ibrahimovic and the movement and pace of Chicharito. We'll be lucky to get him. People who keep wondering why we are buying two strikers when we already have Martial and Rashford, don't understand the importance of a Target-man, especially in Premier League.

And, Lindelof is an obvious choice. He is the best young CB around and Smalling has lost his hunger/drive in the game. We need to move on from him.

In Mata and Mkhitaryan we have decent creative midfielders and it'd help us to shift to 4231 in some tactical matches requiring to break deadlocks.

Romero, Fellaini, Blind, Rojo, Darmian, Carrick, Young are all good squad players and we definitely need them for rotation.

Rashford, Jones, Martial and Lingard are young and can improve with hard work. If they do so, they'll easily break into the first team. Else, they'll become backups and they are worthy enough backups.

Smalling and Rooney seem excess to the squad and I'd love to see them leave, making Herrera our new captain and DDG our new VC.

If all this happens, next season would be a dream at the Theatre of Dreams.

Great post!

Can't see us buying both Bellotti and Morata, but the rest looks good.

Hope we're in for him - could be the successor to Scholes. Push comes to shove, wouldn't mind United blowing the Griezmann budget + change on Verratti - he can be a bigger presence for the team's overall structure and rhythm of play from the center of the pitch than Antoine. Perfect Kroos/Modrić-esque kapellmeister, and probably the best for the next 7-8 years after Thiago. A fully developed Pogba-Verratti tandem would be monstrous - and European Cup worthy.
Forget the future, it would already make ours the best midfield in the league:drool: Please make it happen!

I can't see us just buying Perisic and Morata for the attack. Not after releasing Zlatan and when we sell (give away/pay to leave) Rooney. Just as we wouldn't have bought just Perisic and Griezmann. So we either buy a #10 and play Morata as a #9, which looks unlikely now that James is headed to PSG when he would be the obvious choice, or we play Morata as SS like Griezmann and buy a #9 to replace Zlatan. Only one who fits that role who is likely is Belotti. I think its happening.

Sandro at United would be awesome everything I thought Shaw would become. Unfortunately we are not in the race a window of Morata Lindelof Sandro and Fabinho would give us a great base to build on next season. Would look very solid and we could cope with our wide forwards much better as their workload would be reduced as we'd dominate possession more and also have much more mobility up top.

Become our manager NOW!! I like this post. Hard to disagree with any of it.

True, but Valencia is 31 so it's not the worst idea to buy someone like Semodo (23) if he's keen to come.
He can play one/two seasons rotating with Valencia then make the position his own.
You have to think that if one of Jones/Smalling or even both go, they can be used as backup RBs so we might need depth there.

I think Lindelof can play as a RB as well. And Darmian & Young are there as well, although I expect Young to be sold.
True. If we got Fabinho he can cover loads of positions as well. Will be interesting to see who he wants to ditch. Surely they would have been told by now or is that not how it works?

What happened to the City rumours? I'd love it if we nicked him from right under their noses, love it.

EDIT - 10 goals in 48 games for a DM is pretty good going.

He's good at taking penalties, I doubt that would be 10 goals from open play.if it is we could drop our bid for Morata and stick him up front.

Spend £70 million or whatever the belotti clause is to keep Rooney out of the team?

I like it.
I am being too vindictive I think and it probably isn't fair. If he stays it is for the wrong reasons. He needs to be playing and it will not happen here. So if he stays it is for the money. Then you lose respect for him.

Hopefully this Lindelof signing calm the nerves of some transfer market enthusiast here. The reaction after City signed Silva was an absolute disgrace, some were comparing it to Moyes's transfer window.

Spot on. I hope he doesn't stay; he really shouldn't.

Completely agree - some people here are so impatient though.

It was ridiculous. Transfer window hadn't even been open and a lot of our targets are on international duty.

We won't dwell, Jose is our manager. He gets shit done. Woodie proved he could get key transfers in early as possible (Euros delayed Pogba), so that ain't an issue at all either.

Bit of common sense. People need to clam the feck down and stop hanging on every tweet from a nobody who has Ballpoint pen and a notepad - making click bait to make a few bob.

Never mind what other teams do also. We have until start of July when pre-season starts - and that was Joses deadline as well if people listened to his press conferences.

In England possibly, but that lineup still looks some distant away from Real Madrid's.
