Transfer Tweets - Manchester United - 2024/25

Straight from the Woodward and Co. thinking on transfers that landed us Maguire and Antony. And I also don’t think Branthwaite is a world class talent. Nothing stands out in him. Madly overhyped and madly overpriced. No, thanks.

You are of course allowed to think so - but "unfortunately" he is something special. The guy is 6'5 - quick, good with the ball at his feet, a leader - and within 2-3 years he will be one of the best defenders in the league. Hopefully he will play at Old Trafford when it happens. Has he got a lot to learn ? Sure - but imagine this guy at 26-27 when he has added a bit more power and experience.

So much guesswork from the media and you can tell because they're all contradicting each other.

We want Braithwaite and Everton need to sell before end June for PSR.

But now we want Chaloboah for 25m but can't go for him unless we sell.

Or we try to sign the madly overpriced talent - for a significantly lower amount. What we dont do - is aim for a much worse player just because he is free.

Surely it's two sides of the same coin? We try and negotiate but if Everton don't budge then we walk away instead of what we normally do and just pay it.

I'm sure none of the press know our budgets and links to players are being fed by players agents as we've sounded out their interest/availability. I mean, we've been linked to 5/6 CBs already.

Definitely guess work. I do see the point that we might aim to move on players early cos it will free up funds for PSR but I doubt it would impact us going for a cut price move for Chalobah.

Fair enough if you think so highly of him. Clearly I don’t. And if we do end up signing him I hope he becomes as good as you think he could be. But I pray it’s nowhere near the price that has been mentioned. That would significantly eat up our budget.

Good player but is LB priority area? Already have two there and they won't be injured for an entire season again.
No guarantees that they won't be, we can't really risk it again.

We will never sign him for £80 million - unless Everton drop their price - he wont be coming to us. I would assume the limit for us is just above £50 million

Nah - because my comment was made to the "don't sign Branthwaite for too much, go sign Tosin instead for free" - in my world there is a huge gap of alternatives between the two. SIgning Tosin for free might be shrewd business for a back-up player but he is nowhere near good enough to be a United-regular if we plan to win the league. Branthwaite might be.

and thats the problem...might be. and might be's shouldnt cost £80m. sure things in positions should cost that money. Kane, Rice, bellingham, haaland. And braithwaite isnt in that class (yet) so shouldnt cost that sort of money. Sure go for 50m with clauses but we need to stop buying big money hopeful punts

Everton are never getting £80m so they might as well accept their 9-point deduction now. No team is paying more than £60m and tbh I doubt any club will even go as high as that. We seem to be the club with the most interest. They only have a month to hold their bluff. If they refuse to go down to £50m by then, we'll probably move on to another target.

Signing an LB means we’d have more protection there to be able to use Shaw as a Martinez back up/rotation option. Might be a better move to bring in a CB and LB instead of try for two CBs.

They won’t?
Haha good point, and even so this lad is very young and I would say way better than Malacia. I am not sure of how good he is defending 1v1s or defending crosses at the back post etc etc, but he is brilliant with the ball and brilliant going forward.

Name is the biggest problem. Branthwaite? Sounds like a proper (……)er

Pretty ballsy to assume that Shaw isn't capable of missing another season through injury.

like the German Bellingham kind of. A big skilful guy but still really young, box to box. Bayern would usually snap him up without much fuss when he was ready
We should stop assan around and sign him already then

Bayern have been linked with him and I’d be surprised if he isn’t going there. Otherwise, we should definitely be in for him because he is a very good young talent.

Shaw says 'hold my beer'. No way we can rely on him as a #1 LB ever again. Great player but completely unreliable, sadly.
Agreed. I would have him as a squad player. He can play both LB and LCB. Would be a perfect Martinez/ 1st choice LB cover.

Box box midfielder I read, how good is he?
He's regarded as the biggest German talent since Wirtz. He brings everything you'd want from a B2B (1.91, great technically, fast, creative, press-resistant, runs a lot, good in the box as well), hence the Bellingham comparisons. I would say he has a bit of Pogba too (the good aspects). Would be a steal if we manage to snap him up over Bayern or the other EPL teams.

If he's any good 9 times out of 10 Bayern Munich will be his next club.
