Transfer Tweets - Manchester United - 2024/25

I don’t get how we managed to deplete/make the squad worse during the manager’s first transfer window when it was already crying out for help.

I keep looking at the fourth wall camera like the characters in The Office, in disbelief.

I mean, we could still be in with a shout in the Europa, but we don’t even have the bodies

Hold my beer.

To be fair, Rashford out is a good thing. Antony needed more minutes.

That said, we do need someone to score goals and we knew that before pre season under ten Hag.

The only reason Spurs are getting Tel is because there's no purchase option, allowing Tel to continue on with Bayern Munich, which he seems to prefer.

We’ll be lucky to finish 15th this season and that’s on INEOS, no one else!
Right now, I really think our ceiling is 16th. Spurs, Everton and West Ham are all within 3 points of us and are all better teams. I expect them all to jump ahead of us in the table after our next loss to Spurs. Wolves are also better than we are but are far away enough (10 points) that we can hopefully somehow hold 16th. Well on track for the second worst season in the 147-year history of Manchester United. Shameful.

I though the issue we had with Tel is that bayern wanted a sale or loan with a buy obligation

Even spurs have more ambition than us these days

I find it pretty strange we wouldn’t have been interested in a straight loan considering our financial constraints and that fact our current attack is complete and utter dog shit!

So we've got rid of Radford and got no one in?

We really are writing off this season.
We wrote off the season when we didn't sack Ten Hag in the summer. Ineos have been pathetic, worse than the Glazers in some ways.

So we wanted a purchase option it seemed.

Spurs signing Tel ON A LOAN. Bayern has done us over.
I'm a bit confused by the development - surely it would open up the opportunity for us or someone else to hijack the deal? Unless they are a paying a hefty loan fee, I struggle to see why we wouldn't be all over a move to get him on loan with no obligation to buy. Not including a buy option does add a risk to the club he's going to but surely that wouldn't be a huge issue.

Tel just wanted more playing time. He didn't care about wanting to leave permanently or temporarily. His first preference was always to remain at Bayern Munich, but he was also open to leaving permanently if he was leaving for a big team, hence his openness to joining United despite their struggles. United could've offered him a straight loan, but yeah, it seems like they wanted a purchase option as well given his youth and potential in order to potentially profit off of him down the line.

Sigh. Deadline days are nog what they used to be. Evan Ferguson is starting to look like a pretty obvious miss for us at the moment. A risk, sure but worth a punt if we've literally nothing else in the pipeline.

How the feck can they be relaxed when we have two "strikers" who are utterly useless? That's why we lost to Palace as well - they had an actual striker up front. FFS

Relaxed about being shit? No different to the glazers
If it was the Glazers/Woodward we probably would've panicked and got a forward today. Personally would rather keep the money for the summer when there are more forwards available.

He's struggled massively since his injury last year. Not sure he would've helped us at all, he needs to go somewhere to rebuild his confidence.

Except there will be more attractive propositions for strikers to choose from, unless we go down the old paying extortionate wages route again. They will likely sign another kid who has scored two goals in his career and tell us they have potential. The error hasn't been made this transfer window it was keeping ETH, then sacking him after letting him spend a truck load of money again.

To be fair, even if Amorim had been here in the Summer, we’ve have 100% wanted to add Yoro, De Ligt & Ugarte.

Spend all window trying to shop Garnacho. Do nothing (other than unsettle the player).

Spend all window trying to sign a forward. Sign nobody.

Relaxed FC.

Yoro was 100% a club buy, every fecker wanted him.

Amorim absolutely loves Ugarte.

So are you gonna argue so hard about another CB, when clearly you see after Martinez injury how desperately this system needs a load of CB’s in his squad.
No chance he’d have gone in with Martinez, Maguire, Yoro, Evans and Lindelöf man.

Big difference in Summer would have bern Zirkzee & Maz signings.

HAHA they can feck right off, Biancheri is the closest youth striker we have ready at the club (not counts the loanees), I would love to seem him on the bench once his arm is fixed
Sounds like a job for bob the builder

I absolutely will back the club not being cornered into 'obligation to buy' clause. We have made too many knee jerk mistakes in past and have ended up with players that are difficult to shift. If we can't get straight 6 month loan striker then better not having one then a bad one that severely restricts the club in the summer. This season is a right off anyway!
This. By far the worst thing the club could do is another panic buy. Get the right player on an affordable deal or just hold off til summer. There's no need to be desperate for any particular move.

Yoro maybe. But I think we'd have got a pacier, better ball player than De Ligt if any. The focus would have been on wing backs and a better striker. Not convinced Amorim loves Ugarte either.

I thought we sanctioned Antony and Rashford exits to allows us to bring players in. Weird if you don’t bring anyone else besides Dorgu
We did it to free up money. It could be used now or in the summer. January tends to have very limited buying opportunities though.

That doesn't sound good at all.

I must admit, while not fancying the Qatari bid either, I was always wary of INEOS' history with Nice and Lausanne during the takeover. In two relatively small leagues - where the kind of money they had should have brought success and trophies - they didn't win anything and seemed to run them sustainably rather than for achieving sporting success.

Does look worryingly like the same approach here.
Are people really serious with comments like this?

We were third in the Prem in net spending this summer, spending 100M+ more than City, Chelsea, Arsenal, and Liverpool. You can bet we'll spend big money again in the summer. We're FINALLY getting rid of some of the bad contracts and showing restraint on huge money signings for guys past their peak, with a bunch of young talent brought in. And a year in it turns to comments like this. Sheesh.

We'll probably target someone like Gyokeres or Osimhen in the summer. If we do add one of them, surely that's enough at striker?

In what world is Gyokeres or Osimhen joining a club who will finish 15th if they are lucky and without European football. Do you think we will have a free run at them?

I am surprised there were no attempts to sign Gyokeres or Osheimen given there are multiple premier league clubs crying for good striking options. Not saying they were going to be easy deals but I was expecting some bids.

I wasn't expecting us to do big signings but was cautiously optimistic that if we managed to ship off some players, we would bring in a few medium key decent signings to improve us. How I was wrong! Now I worry about our season and as a result the fate of the manager.

I don't think we will. Our financial position is not strong.

I think we have to accept that we are severely handicapped by PSR, the obscene contracts our players are on and our new ownership.

The days of us going gung-ho in the transfer market and general transfer muppetry are long over. Jimmy Rat will definitely see to the latter.

For the next few transfer windows, expect our transfer activity to be similar to other poor clubs in Europe: taking punts on relative unknowns, sniffing around rejects from other top clubs for a cut-price fee, or trying to secure loan moves for talented players who are yet to make the grade.
