Matt Hargreaves deserves some serious recognition for negotiating that deal with Aston Villa. 40m option, they cover 75 percent of Rashys wages, and we save a bunch of money on his wages. 40m is also the most I think we could hope for given the circumstances.

I think we're going to have to pay off the likes of Case, Antony and Shaw to leave as no club will pay anything like the stupid wages they're on.
Antony is on 105k only and his wages are manageable for most mid level teams in the PL or in some parts of Europe like Spain and Italy, Shaw is on around 150k and maybe some PL clubs and top European clubs can take on such wages, but the issue with Shaw is his injuries.

Of course Cas is the one that we might have to subsidize his exit

The wage contribution from Villa has gone from 60% to 70% to now 75-90% ..
What is happening.. I'm used to seeing the reported numbers go from 90% to 25%... this feels weird.

We are far more efficient in the market now. Last summer was so smooth. Far quicker. Working on multiple deals at once and better negotiators. This is how it should have been all along.

We need some attacking player to help us in the 2nd half of the season. We’re still competing in the FA cup and the Europa league which we have a good chance of winning.

Yeah I’ll be disappointed if we don’t replace Rashford. But there’s an easy line of “no value in the market” to take.

It would be handy if we could find an attacking player with no loan fee, some of the wages still covered by the other team, and without an obligation to buy. But I guess not many teams are loaning players out on such generous terms. :)

Buying out shaws contract would be pointless. May as well pay it him in instalments and use him for the 1 in 10 games he’s available. Just don’t offer him a new contract under any circumstances.

He’s still a good player and doesn’t seem to suffer with any attitude issues. He’s just permanently injured.

40m buy option is meaningless to us, it’s Villa that benefits , they would have asked for this as a condition of taking him on loan…so they are covered if he lights it up for them.

Funny to read some people saying we have done well to negotiate the option.

Only an obligation would have been good negotiation on our part.

Yep, that's my take on it.

They were in a stronger position than us, have negotiated better, and have come up with a good deal from their perspective that covers them either way and for very little outlay (no loan fee it seems, unlike whenever we get someone in on loan).

We've come out of it with a deal not much different than I'd have expected under the old guard. Selling him now for a good price, getting an obligation for a good price. getting a good loan fee, etc - these are all things that would have been good negotiating on our part worthy of praise. Loaning him out for free, and only with an option to buy, shouldn't have been too difficult to negotiate. The only positive is much of the wage being covered - but that's just a replacement of the usual loan fee anyway. Which no doubt we'll have to pay, on top of the wages, for a loan replacement.

Eh? It means at least that there's a good price point in place if they DO want to buy, that we're not starting from scratch. Is there a single one of us that wouldn't take their hands off for 40 million? I don't care if he scores 15 goals between now and the end of the season, it's still a good price.

I thought we were only thinking of loaning a striker until the summer due to PSR issues?

If we're signing him permanently, I'd have thought we'd have to permanently sell someone like Rashford or Garnacho to raise funds?

The comparatively small bits we're saving in wages won't be enough to allow us to pay anything like that for a striker in this window, would they? Especially after the Dorgu signing. Unless it's a loan with an obligation to buy for that amount in the summer?

Isn’t it a loan with an option to buy? So when the summer comes we’ll have more funds anyway and hopefully we’ll have the money from sancho and rashford sales.

They will be after loan with an obligation to buy at €60m in the summer same as Spurs. This won't be a problem PSR wise since the payment can trigger in July so in the next period.

Not sure if United will want him without an option since if he could fit Amorim system, Bayern could hike the price. At €60m, it feels like we'd feel we would have preferred options in the summer like maybe Dibling.

Ultimately he's an unsettled player who cost Bayern €30m. See what tomorrow brings.

That's what I understand it to be, plus later in the summer will be a new PSR year which changes a lot

Thanks for the replies. :+1:

Interesting final couple of days of the window as regards the crucial attacking addition that we need.

We shouldn't give a EUR 60m fee after a loan, it should be less normally.
Even if it was buying him now 60m is too much, I'd think 40+5 or something would work
If it is an option to buy we can walk away from Eur 60m

40 million is a good fee for a player who's been as bad Rashford and also has a contract of 300k plus.

It's good to see we have a proper list to replace Rashford in the squad as in we won't end up bare or totally reliant on Garnacho staying fit by the end of the season. All 3 have major potential but have become stuck for one reason or another. Tel is the most exciting by far but could also take months to get going in the PL. Nkunku could be a machine if he got fit but he looks another sick note. I wouldn't swap Rashford for a Villa player whose also totally stalled. That's mid table stuff but who knows? Maybe these guys actually are geniuses after all...

These are all Ralf kind of signings by the way
