Unless they are also paying a fee, surely this doesn't offer up much room in terms of finances to get a replacement. How much is Antony on? I wonder what percentage Betis would even be covering.

Mount has been a flop mainly due to injuries. Let’s hope he can stay fit and I think Amorim will like him.

Antony is never really injured but he’s just totally useless.
Be nice to get rid of both and forget they were ever here, both useless signings.

I’m not Antony’s biggest fan, but can we really afford to loan him out right now? While he shouldn’t be starting regularly, in games where we’ve needed a goal or some attacking spark, he’s come on and made an impact in flashes, whether as a wing-back or an inside forward.

Mason Mount says hello.

Nah, Mount is good player just unfortunate with injuries. Overpriced and probably a bad signing in hindsight but far from the worst.

Antony is an £80m spin merchant.

Both are flops but there's not enough spotlight on how shit Murtough was in all of this. In both cases the players were attainable for cheaper and he totally fecked the fee as well as the support for talent identification.

Whilst it would be preferable to get a fee I think the goal is to just try and get him out. If he can look at least decent in la liga then we may be able to get a reasonable fee for him in the summer. At the moment him staying here is just making him look worse. Gotta hope he can get some form in la liga.

1 more injury that keeps him out for ages and we should just cut our losses

I don’t think players leaving on loan would allow us to sign this month. We need money. Unless we go into the loan market ourselves

I can kinda see what the clubs plans are I think. I think we’re confident we are not going to get relegated. So we are going to run a lean squad for the rest of the season and look to save a good £10m-£30m in wages (Rashford, Antony, Casemiro in an ideal world) and maybe sell the likes of Garnacho to raise another £50m+ on top of that.

Then if we can shift more in the summer and with a few of the free transfers coming off the wage bill we should actually be in quite a solid position going forward with a lean squad ready to be added to in the key positions and in all likelihood no European football which should give Amorim some really quality time on the training pitch to implement his ideas.

I don't think so - not without getting another player in

I can’t for the life of me work out why we would loan our only fit LB when we seemingly can’t afford a quality replacement.
The same goes for Antony. Unless we have replacements, it makes no sense. We need a strong squad.

Of course it makes sense. Antony is an extremely expensive player contributing practically nothing. He has one goal this season, against Barnsley. He makes no practical difference to the team.

Some of you are way too focused on the short term. Whether we finish 12th or 10th matters very little. We've got to get some of the bad contracts out of the club. Loaning Antony probably gets us £3-4M in funds, and if he shows anything he's easier to sell this summer.

You don't forego all that so you can have a random backup for a few games this season. And you can always bring someone else in too.

exactly this. He’ll get more playing time on loan and hopefully attract the interest of a club from a lesser league.

I'm simply astounded that anyone watches our games and thinks we NEED to keep guys like Antony or Casemiro. They contribute nothing. The odds of Antony being the difference in us winning the Europa League or not are probably 1 in 10,000. And people want us to potentially lose out on £30-40M in savings (between wages and any kind of fee) from being able to ship them out a year or two earlier for that 1 in 10,000 chance.

I can't even begin to wrap my head around it. Turning down any opportunity to loan/sell them is borderline unthinkable to me. If we can get even half their wages covered it's a massive win for the club.

Considering they barely play, I’m not sure watching our games helps.
I watch for example and think I’d try Antony at WB before ever watching Maz there ever again.
Or we could keep watching the same lads stink it out week in week out.

Cant see many top quality players wanting to join us in this current state. Maybe in the summer but only top4 qualification level.

That’s how I see it as well.

I'd rather we got rid of them and used the spaces in the squad to get some minutes into some of the youth prospects. League is a write off anyways

I don't care what the issue is - FFP or lack of funds - just get some players in and worry about the finances later. Or we will have a lot more to worry about in may
