Buy back Alvaro and get another LB. Shaw and Malacia need to be kicked out the door. They offer nothing but injuries
Malacia has been fit of late, hes not exactly on big wages and we got him for something like 14m. I would have him as a lesser sell priority personally. Shaw Im sure is on big wages but doubt anyone will take him..

Putting aside his off-field issues, he's going to want big wages and is already 27. For a team that's going nowhere this year, I'm not sure he makes a ton of sense. Him helping us finish 8th rather than 11th doesn't really move the needle.

Likely he'll start declining within the next couple years (fullbacks peak on average between 24 to 26, so he may already be in his decline phase), and very likely he'll be considered an "overpaid" player that needs to be shipped out by the time our roster is really good. For an Arsenal who just needs an extra piece or two he could make sense; for a team that's miles off I'm not sure how adding players like him on big wages makes our future brighter. He's a "win now" player when we have no realistic chance to do that; we should be buying 22-24 year olds who can grow with the team IMO. That's how most long-term winners are built, and United's been buying older guys for years to our own detriment.

I see people linking us to guys like him and Antonee Robinson and I just can't help but shake my head. It seems like people don't learn. These guys are 1-2 year fixes who are probably toxic assets by the time they're 30. Spending £50M seems like a poor use of resources.
I get the problem but he suits Amorim's system and is a MASSIVE improvement over the scrubs we have on that position. He could give us a boost to reach the top 5, even if his peak is limited to the next 2-3 years. If he wants big wages we could offer him a shorter contract (2+1 or 3+1) and see where this leads.

Sign him and Alvaro to rotate, loan Harry Amass to a Championship club, and in 3 years we hopefully have Amass ready to take over.

Is Olmo free? Barca need to do something with their finances in order to register him for the remainder of the season but he is not out of contract
There's talk that they might have to let him go on a free because they can't register him for the second half of the season.

Source is Sports Witness. Don’t hold much faith in it.

We do need a striker, wonder if we’d go for Hernandez given age and apparent model of buying younger.

He is only 27 and hardly ever misses a game so I don't see a problem. Right now I would say it's a bigger problem that we have next to none experienced players we can rely on....

Tier 2:

  • Liverpool have gathered some initial info but not done anything beyond that.
  • United don't expect to bring him in during January.
  • Spurs & RB Leipzig are two of numerous clubs interested in him.

That’s the point. Not saying he’s old but model now seems to be 25 and under (think Maz was an exception given bargain price) and we’re looking for ones we can renew or sell on with good value.

An older/experienced player can be worth it (like RvP) … just not sure Hernandez would be cheap so model/PSR would seem to prevent it but if we sell Rashford, who knows.

So how much are you spending to bring him on a 2 year deal? 50M? That plus 200k a week equates to 35M a year over two years. You realize you could have just about any player in the game for that much spend?

You could probably buy Musiala and have him for 8-10 years and it won't cost more than as about 35M a year. 120M fee amortized over 5 years is only 25M.

Bottom line is mid-table clubs shouldn't buy older guys like this almost ever.

Only 27? That's fricken old for a fullback. As I linked earlier (see here), peak age for a fullback is 24 to 26. Wide players decline VERY early because of all the pace needed (see Marcus Rashford). He's likely already declining and will be considerably worse within 2-3 years.

The age curve is horrible on this one. For a team trying to compete in 2027-2028, this transfer likely sets us back from that goal while taking up a bunch of FFP space. I really hope INEOS is smarter than buys of this type.

Someone should tell Alves, Carvajal or Lahm

Is Hernandez one of the best ever at his position? Bc those who don't decline along typical age curves tend to be very much the outliers. Quite foolish to expect that to be the norm.

Look, we just went through this with horribly wasteful transfers like Casemiro and Varane. It's really quite basic stuff. Guys in their late twenties typically cost much more than they're actually worth bc their best years are behind them but they aren't paid like that's the case.

United seems to (finally!) get this with INEOS, buying mostly guys 24 and under this off-season. Doing that alone for a few years will go a long way to getting us back on track, as it's pretty much Sports Management 101 to not buy guys approaching 30. As long as you don't have too many Anthony's in there, buying youth with our budget is likely to lead to a ton of winning.

If we really haven't learned our lesson, we can keep going through this cycle of big money for short term fixes that become toxic quickly. Quite sad though.
