Scouting and recruitment is seriously good at Liverpool.

Liverpool's transfer committee has come a long way since Duncan Castles wrote the below article in 2014.

Duncan Castles: "How do you spend more than £215 million on transfer and loan fees and sign 24 footballers but end up with only two who have significantly improved your first team?"

"You hire Liverpool's infamous "Transfer Committee."

"Established in the summer of 2012 to introduce science and collective decision-making to the club's recruitment policy, Liverpool's committee is formally composed of four individuals—Brendan Rodgers (manager), Ian Ayre (chief executive), Dave Fallows (head of recruitment) and Michael Edwards (head of performance analysis)."

"Their collective conclusions have been little short of catastrophic. More than half of the Transfer Committee's spending occurred this last summer, when Rodgers boasted of having a "different vision" and a clear transfer "strategy" to Sky Sports (h/t ESPN FC). Yet with that spending, Liverpool have descended to ninth in the Premier League, scoring just seven times in eight home games."

I cannot believe we haven't at least tried to make a move for Mazraoui.

We have more urgent needs, granted. But we're short of real quality at RB and it seems a fairly simple deal to do, at least until Bayern got involved.

Maybe the Raiola involvement put us off.

We probably did. But Bayern want him, so not a lot you can do if the player wants to go there too.

The annual Lewandowski drama seems to be especially creative this year. I hope it's just Falk being creative, because it would be seriously sad if Lewandowski really is this insistant on getting another one or two million more per year, when the club has already broke their wage structure for him.

Good passer but I’m not sold on him to be honest. He can be complete hit or miss. Would also depend on who we’re getting alongside him
Agreed. We'd basically be replacing Pogba with Pogba-lite, I'd rather opt for a player who's going to give us 7/10 every week than a 9/10 every few months.

I'm guessing they're looking at him as he can potentially be cheaper to acquire given Everton's season.

Pep's quote about staying at City:
I'm under contract here, I'm so happy here. I'm willing to stay forever here. Cannot be a better place to be, I'd extend the contract 10 years.

Tielemans should be a no brainer. A cheap playmaker perfectly suited to Ten Hag's football. So watch us spunk 100 million on Rice instead.

Pep's quote about staying at City:

The place is literally built for him, and he has an unlimited supply of resources, and his brother (problem him too) gets a club I'm Spain for when he retires.

Why would he leave City? Well, until it all comes crashing down like a house of cards.

Or his football becomes outdated. Pep doesn't strike me as the type who can stay at one club for long until he gets bored so we shall see.

The fact that he's not far off being at City longer than his previous stints at Barca amd Bayern combined means he's comfy, very comfy - even with his gripe of having no fans in the stadium etc.

Tielemans would need a player like Rice next to him. Clearly you are another anti British fan. Pathetic really.

Maybe two, it'll be because they want him at PSG for the WC. Apparently the Emir of Qatar and Macron spoke to him to convince him. Basically he was told to name his price I bet

Doesn't Macron have more important things to do (after the mess that it's his spell as president of France) than trying to convince a multimillonaire footballer to no leave a multimillonaire club?

Well if we start seeing strong links to midfield playmakers can assume Ten Hag is sealed

Axel Witsel will leave in the summer. There has been speculation about a departure for weeks, [and] now it is confirmed. According to SSN info, the Dortmund bosses have already informed him that his expiring contract will not be extended.

I've also read reports that he might sign for one of the Miami clubs. He could be a terrific player in MLS, it's really "only" his severe lack of pace that's a huge issue with him. But he's still probably one of the most reliable players on the ball around.

Witsel and Mata might make a great 6, 10 upgrade for an MLS club if you put plenty of runners around them.

[Jason Burt] RB Leipzig trying to hijack Manchester United's move to hire Erik ten Hag as new manager

| United remain strong favourites to bring in ten Hag and it would be a huge surprise if he were to turn down move to Old Trafford

How credible is this journalist ?

2 Key part of the article for me:

Contrary to reports, however, the 52-year-old Dutchman is not demanding full control over transfers and has been irritated by the suggestions.
Having spent all of his coaching career working under a sporting director it would be astonishing if ten Hag was now demanding that degree of control. Sources emphatically claim he is not.

However, ten Hag does want it made clear by United that he will have a significant saying in signings and departures – something they are happy to grant – and also, crucially, that he will be given time to rebuild the United squad which is set to miss out on Champions League football.

Jason Burt isn't that credible compared to the rest of the Telegraph journalists. He's probably the least reliable of the lot, IMO. Besides, the German journalists are denying the links, so we've nothing to worry about.
