Toni Kroos

Out of interest, because I haven't been watching Bayern much this season, who is suffering the fall-out from Thiago's arrival? Kroos is apparently flying, and I'm presuming Schweinsteiger can't have been dropped at all. I suppose Martinez is back at CB? And Gustavo was the major loser from the whole thing. Anyone else, or is everyone else being fitted in somehow?

No fall-out yet. Götze, Martinez and Thiago were injured for most of the season, Schweinsteiger also missed at least half of the games and Lahm played as DM because of all the injuries. Rafinha became a 'fall-in' actually, started a lot of games as rightback and did a very good job.

Ah ok. Jesus, for any other team that's a crushing injury crisis, but Bayern just roll another couple of top talents into place and carry on.

We had to play a fullback in CM because 4 CMs and 1 AM were injured at the same time? Pretty sure that's a bit too much forcing Pep's hand to call it 'convenient' ;). It was an injury crisis but we got through superbly. Now it would be nice to have our new players fit and to find out what they can bring to the team. Götze should be fit after the international break, that's a start and hopefully we see a lot of brilliant Kroos - Götze plays like:

This guy is so elegant, he's a little bit Scholes-like (dare I say it). Not on the same level, of course (:D) but he does remind me of our Ginger Prince very much. He, like Scholes, is an automatic luxury sedan in a world that is too busy fawning over manual screaming supercars. He doesn't shift up or down a gear depending on his mood - he chugs along, doing his thing so naturally, with no effort - like a white Rolls-Royce - and it is up to those around him to benefit from having him on the team. The Yaya Toure's of this world will roll around in gear 1 for 11 months of the year like a bright green Pagani - being carried by their teammates. They then open up the cylinders & put their engines to full use for one or two big games per year to grab the headlines and rewrite history & the fact that they haven't been so impressive beforehand. Toni Kroos oozes class.

Edit: :wenger: If you take this seriously. I think he's a very good player.

You do realise that there is only one person on this forum, Colin, that will actually appreciate that post.

Out of all the midfielders out there, I'd really love us to sign this bloke (maybe Gundogan, then Kroos, but Kroos ). I know it's never going to happen though :(. Such an intelligent player.

He prefers the no.10 position doesn't he?

I think he prefers cm. He has something, he is a quality player.

Haven't caught a lot of Bayern this season. How does he play under Pep? I'm guessing Thiago's injury probably gave him a few more opportunities than he might've got, or is that an unfair point of view?

Always known him to be an excellent passer of the ball, loved watching him the season before last.

He's a better player than Thiago isn't he ? There is a clear difference between the two for me but then again Thiago hasn't settled fully yet.

I'd say so for sure, but Pep seemed dead set on Thiago's quality and fusing him into the Bayern team. If he hadn't have got injured straight away, I assume someone who's played the majority of games for them this season may have been on the fringes a bit more.

At the minute, I would say so. I do think, however, that Thiago - a player with a higher ceiling, I feel - can be the best central midfielder in the world should he fulfill his potential (not saying he will for sure, as you never know). I think people have forgotten about how talented he is since his move to Bayern - he's been injured the whole time, & he is at a club where he gets significantly less media coverage than if he were at Barca or United (in my opinion at least, but that can work as a positive and negative depending on how you look at it).

Kroos is fantastic though, agreed. He would've been a very good fit for us, in my opinion.

Glorious last night? I think that's an exaggeration. I have seen him play much better.

I've never been impressed by him when he plays off the striker, but always impressed by him in CM

Of course he was. He ran the show whilst in second gear. He couldn't have looked more comfortable.

Probably just semantics but 'glorious' seems over the top to me, don't know how you would describe his performances when he isn't in 'second gear' and actually plays close to his full ability.

Such a simple yet classy footballer. He's pretty much exactly what we need. Carbon copy anywhere?

first saw him in the U-17 FIFA World Cup in 2007. He was head and shoulder above everyone else back then. Great to see him coming good now.

Bayern´s Kroos talks stall
23 January 2014

Bayern Munich are still trying to convince midfielder Toni Kroos to sign a new deal, chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has revealed.

The 24-year-old Germany international sees his current contract expire next year and the Bavarian giants are desperate for him to commit his future to the club.

But those talks have stalled, with Bayern – who have recently seen David Alaba and Jerome Boateng sign contract extensions – still battling to secure the signature of Kroos.

"To be honest…because the talks so far have not led to a new contract…it's always about the money in every agreement," Rummenigge told Kicker.

"We are interested that Toni prolongs his contract."
Although I guess we've pretty much blown our muppet load on Mata for this window, I think that we should definitely be sniffing round this situation, at the very least.

Kroos seems to go very much under the radar outside of Germany, but he's a quality player and exactly the type of midfielder we need, imo.

Well I mean, apparently we're the big dogs of this transfer shit now so we might as well make a move.

Kroos control.

Won't be surprised if his agent uses us to get a new deal for him, ala Fabregas.

What kind of player is he though? Being German, he can probably take a good penalty :)

He can play as a cm or am, right? Which is his best position?

Looked brilliant any time I've seen him but the last thing we need is another No. 10.

He's played in a midfield three anytime I've seen him this season.

We'll continue to adopt 4-2-3-1 so it'd be difficult enough to fit him in.

Is he consistent? And can he play in the 2 of a 4231? If so I'd be happy to go for him if he was available (based on that youtube video).

I think the signing of Mata will alter the type of midfield player we need. We'll need someone with high energy, with passing becoming less important.

How so?? He shits all over Cleverley, Giggs, Fellaini & Anderson, who have all been played alongside Carrick, in that setup, at some point. He's better than Fletcher, though that's obviously understandable, given Fletch's situation.

He'd walk into a CM pairing in our squad with his eyes closed.

It's always good to have a player who can spray the ball accurately to a team mate from deep. Of course we need a solid DM/box to box type as well.
