Another good appearance from him.
I don't know what his ceiling is but I definitely think he's getting better

Hopefully that clearance will give him a ton of confidence.

The squad needs major reconstruction so having a player from the youth team capable of playing a role in the squad is invaluable.

High energy good work rate and is clearly now trusted by Amorim. Not doing much going forward right now but who is. He's already taken Casemiros minutes and shown much more.

We need these sorts of players in the squad. Hopefully we see his game grow but right now he's stopped us having to buy an extra CDM immediately when there are so many other areas needing work.

Was really hoping for that. We need all the legs we can find.

Loving everything that he’s doing so far. Been quite tidy last few games and that’s saying clearances was worth its weight in gold. I can see him starting again in Europa league game.

Great to see him do well again and banking us two points.

I'm buggered if I know why one of our biggest chaps is guarding a post at set pieces, but good thing he was!

Didn't see a big talent when he was playing for u-21s but ETH and now Amorim both clearly like him. What a difference being an athlete makes in our team though. He's doing his job solidly enough and offers some legs in the middle of pitch which this team sorely lacks. Casemiro, Eriksen and Mainoo all lack the athleticism required and often appear laboured on the pitch.

He's got a good sense of awareness and authority about him. The ball came towards him but he was clearly following the flight of the ball, moving his feet, and that enabled him to have time to head the ball upwards rather than just getting his head on it. He's got some natural defensive attributes and his positioning is impressive.

Talent-wise, the jury's still out as to whether he can genuinely nail down a spot in the team as a midfielder in a technical sense, but there's clearly something there and it's the maturity and cool-headedness that stands out right now.

Just reminds me of like a Fletcher - players that aren't the top top drawer in their position, but players that can absolutely do a job in the season as part of the overall squad, and you need those players. Fair play he's stepping up so far, seems far more mature than most players his age which I think is helping him.

He will play a lot of minutes. Looking forward to seeing how he develops by the end of the season.
It’s kinda like years ago Jose gave McT minutes here or there. Can Toby grow his game more quickly? At least, we are lacking in midfield. So, he has the best opportunity now to take it in his hands.

Tidy performance, just what he was brought in to do. We need players like these, that's what makes up the squad. Ideally we have youth like this come up for multiple positions.

Coaches love a player that will work hard and stick to task, it is why players like McTominay are underrated by a lot of fans but certain coaches love them. The main difference with Collyer is that he has grown up as a central midfielder who understands that position so I think there will be more to come from him in this role than the latter. He is a player who will transcend systems, thus head coaches so he will have a part to play with whoever comes in after Amorim if he does poorly and the coach after that should he fail, this will associate him with failure and thus he will end up being a figure of hate for the fanbase in about 3-5 years.

Decent. Clearly he hasn't been bitten by Uniteditis yet and tries to give his best in games. Not sure on the overall quality or the long term future, but right now he is doing the job.

Careful now Toby, a few more good performances and Sir Jim will sell you.

Play him over Casemiro any day of the week. He works hard, is decent on the ball, and quite good at interceptions. Plus he saved the 3 points yesterday

United deja vu, Toby the new Kobbie, Rashford the new Sancho, Ruben the new Erik, probably same outcome

Literally nobody is comparing Collyer to Mainoo as the latter is much more naturally talented and has a much higher ceiling.
Anyway, I like Collyer. He needs to refine his game a bit especially going forward but he has the tools to become a good squad player for us.

Like having a new signing. He comes across as really mature for his age and great to have someone who can take Ugarte's place when he's feeling the pace.

Really encouraging. These are the sorts of players we need a constant throughout from the academy.

We have been spending a fortune on squad players, and we should be trusting our academy a bit more.

He doesn’t need to be a superstar, he doesn’t need to be a ‘generational talent’ (ridiculous terminology that’s trotted out these days). He looks like a solid player, and if he develops, fantastic - if not hopefully he goes on to have a good career elsewhere.

The goal line clearance was good but it was his job being positioned on the post. If he failed to do it at all it would have been a mistake. Still an important contribution. Other than that... He made 4 passes with 75% pass accuracy in his 15 mins plus stoppage time. Also 0 tackles and 0 interceptions, having come on to replace Ugarte who made 5 tackles and 1 interception in 75 mins. Lots of improving to do. But glad he did his job clearing the ball off the line and at least him coming on didnt lead to us conceding

I agree but then that's like saying Hojlund/Zirkzee's job is to score or Maguire's is to win headers, it's easy to say a player should do something. If every player did their job we would be unbeaten, never concede and win every single torphy available.

I greatly enjoyed the camera cutting to him and Licha having him by the scruff, coupled with Collyer's face looking like he'd seen a ghost.

Well that's one way to look at it, but think you could be right.
I hope it would have been his job to stand at the goalpost, and not just him taking initiative. You'd hope the team has some kind of organisation for these things. He would have done his job, as much as a player standing in the second line did. His execution was good, so he massively impacted the game. If the ball never reaches there (which it normally doesn't often do), no one would mention it.

I thought he came here as a silky promising midfielder with good long range passing, and press resistance.

True but its only his job on a set piece. And it was a set piece. He did what he was there to do. Its still an important contribution to not mess it up, and the passion the defenders have for someone helping them keep a clean sheet was there for all to see.

If only everyone did their job we’d be top of the league. Just imagine Hojlund doing his job and scoring goals.

One thing I didn't realize about him was that he came up through the Brighton academy, and was offered a new deal by them but rejected it in favour of joining us. Brighton basically have not missed when it comes to spotting premier league capable midfielders, and aren't afraid to look elsewhere on the globe to find them. The fact they wanted to keep a young English player speaks volumes about what their player development team thought of him, which is a great endorsement of his talent.

It shouldn’t make much difference, but the fact United picked him up from Brighton makes me think higher of him as a player.

He was highly rated certainly, but I think Hinshelwood was always their standout in the position. Him aside he was probably right up there for Brighton's youth players

What joy do you get from football? Because if this is your reaction to his performance last night then I'd maybe just watch something else.
