Both Fletcher and McTominay, similar sort of players to Collyer, took time to properly settle down. I think the fact Amorim trusted him ahead of Casemiro amongst others speaks volumes.

I was impressed by his ability to win headers, it was better than our forwards. Needs to ask for the ball more and asset himself in the game, but that can only come from experience. Wouldn't mind giving him Casemiro's minutes from now on. Who knows, maybe we have Ugarte's backup already.

Not seen enough of him to judge yet, what I would say is he’s been thrown into some tough situations so far in his four games.

City all square in the Community Shield
Liverpool at home 2-0 down
Today, down to 10 men away at Arsenal

His only start was at left back when we hammered Barnsley.

Given those games and circumstances , I think he’s done okay and did what was asked of him today pretty well.

Good performance from him.

Be good to see him get more game time, if only to see whether or not he can be useful player in the squad.

Shows how mobility trumps actual ability in the modern game. Much more effective than Casemiro and Eriksen
This. Ofcourse Casemiro and Eriksen are better players but they just don’t have the legs anymore to make it work at PL level.

A player with a bit of physicality and agility and we need as many of them as we can get! I haven't seen enough of him to know whether he has the raw footballing ability. Definitely earned himself more game time for the remainder of the season though.

He’s very athletic. Hopefully he can become decent on the ball, then we’d have a solid player.

Think he’ll end up being a decent player

Today Toby Collyer showed that he has a role to play in this United squad.

He displayed enough to feel confused by the fact Casemiro and Eriksen have been getting minutes ahead of him. At the very least Collyer has the legs to get up and down the pitch. That alone makes him more valuable than either of them to our squad.

I don't see Collyer becoming a starter. However, with Kobbie and Ugarte, he does not need to. He'll be fine as rotation option for those gameweeks that are congested or when we need cover for a few fixtures.

Was decent today and it was nice to see one of our players winning headers in midfield from goal kicks. (Obviously I mean the goal kicks that actually stayed in play)

He looked very useful, definitely, and for a kid he's already got noticeable physicality. He is rangy, tall, good in the air, and gets about the pitch. Also seems mature in terms of decision making and has a solid reading of the game. You could see him being molded into a DM because his defensive work in ground and aerial duels is impressive.

We could definitely use him to help recharge Ugarte and Mainoo, who lets face it, are our only other viable options in central midfield right now.

He will never be a top class CM. And that's OK. We want a good, reliable player, like the Nicky Butts and the phil nevilles of this world. Let's hope he evolves into one.

Thought he looked very good and suited the game. Would hope to see him more in games where we don't need to defend deep

Really impressed by him. Because he's not flashy and exciting you will always get negative opinions from casual football supporters. The ones that are willing to give young lads time will be impressed with his attitude and the fact he's not unfazed.

We have a few games coming up he should see minutes in. Southampton, Leicester, Rangers and Bucherest

You can definitely see the difference with him in terms of his athletic mobility compared to Casemiro and Eriksen in my opinion.

Looks like he will be a useful squad player.

To me he looks like he could be the best Ugarte replacement in the club right now, which is something we really need, and it would be fantastic to be able to spare cash on a Ugarte replacement for a year or two to prioritize quality on LWB and ST positions. This was a perfect game for him, mind. It depends on putting it together against the Brighton’s and Fulham’s of the world when needed.

And I'd argue you need to improve your understanding of a game of football before posting again

If Casemiro or Eriksen had come on instead of him we would have lost that game, Collyer did very well in difficult circumstances and as pretty much all our team his passing stats were loer than they normally would be

Complete nonsense. Casemiro has been one of our best midfielders this season and a far better ball winner than Collyer.

That will be another test for sure. Does he have the footballing ability to find space, play some decent passes and be a cog in which we dominate teams. We know Eriksen thrives in those set-ups but struggles when he needs to chase the ball or players.

Collyer is very fast - he had a sprint towards their 18 yard box where he basically left Sterling in the dust and didn't look fazed, and then he had a defensive run where he ran the pitch without breaking a sweat. He also seems to be very good in the air, looks closer to Zirkzee in height and appears to use his frame well in physical duels.

Promising, but I would like to see him when we dominate matches as well to get an inkling on how rounded his game is.

Casemiro actually has been pretty good - I agree. He's still a very good footballer, but the PL isn't the easiest league to retire in. Still could have a role to play - think he would have been decent today in a low block - but I also think that we can re-invest on a sale of his.

Mobile, and that was what was needed in the circumstances he came on in today.

Considering his lack of game time, and the circumstances he was coming into, I thought he did very well.

Also good to see Brandon Williams old barber is still making a living since he left.

He obviously earned his place in training and did really well when he got his chance. Can only get better.

No reason he can’t have the minutes Eriksen/Casemiro would take up in the second half of the season.

Use him when you need some young legs in midfield.

He looked comfortable I thought. Certainly allows us to sell Eriksen and Casemiro this window/summer.

Dont know how good he can be but in terms of a body in the squad he’s already adequate in my opinion, doesnt look out of place

Much better than his last cameo where he looked out of his depth. He got stuck in and put himself about well.

As others mentioned, would love to see him get more minutes in the second half of the season over Case and Eriksen. Closest in our squad to what Ugarte gives us and that's such a key position.
Seems like he could be a really good 5th midfielder option in the squad. Ugarte, Mainoo, Ederson, Angel Gomes & Colleyer would be a pretty decent midfield going into next season.

Was really impressed by him, he was exactly what we needed in that moment and I believe he could be the understudy to Ugarte as they are similar types of players.
