Thomas Müller

Maybe as a second striker which is his favoured position but is he quick enough to be a wide forward?

He has played wide quite a few times, I remember him tearing England a new one down the right not so long ago

If there is a chance of getting this guy.. Get him.. Ed get your ass going and sign some players will you..

Come on Woody, don't be a pussy, just get the guy. Muller could be a MU legend. It's all in the name. He is MUller.

Bayern will tell him what he wants to hear, or they're idiots.

He already did.

Van Gaal is in contact with Müller. Müller has an offer of Manchester United since some weeks ago - even before van Gaal was officially announced. (Information of kicker - and they are reliable when it means Müller. - all the info they had in this area was later confirmed and if it was 2 years later...)

According to Bild Manchester United already contacted Bayern - Woodward talked with Rummenigge about a Müller transfer latest at the CL final. Bayern Munich declined - no Müller transfer possible to no club for no money. And they told the same to Müller and his agency...

The answer of Müller was today's interview with the Stern magazine - an authorized interview. I guess Müller knows what he is doing. Everything else was behind doors...

I guess all is is about - give me a role I am satisfied with at Bayern - or let me leave.

- It is not about money - not about the transfer sum etc. and not about wages. Woodward cannot do anything as long the situation between Bayern and Müller ain't cleared. Bayern does not need the money. And Müller is the identification figure for the media, club, partners and for the fans (opponents and own).

But you can understand Müller's position. He does not want to be only the pet, the guy that is the smile baby and fun guy for everybody - that delivers whenever it is needed - but still has to shiver every matchday if he will play because somebody is injured or he matches into the tactical plans. He knows that he does not match 100 per cent into Guardiola's plans even if Guardiola for sure values him and his abilities. But probably not enough as he needs it. If you are a big game player you need to play in the big matches.

We're being used by Bayern's players to add money to their contract.

Muller has a contract till 2017. All this new contract imminent stuff sounds very lazy. It's possible that a player has genuine concerns over his place in the team. I do think he'll stay but I don't think he's upset just because he wants a new contract.

I dont understand why we would be in for Muller, unless LvG wants to play him on the wing or something. CM is where our cash should be spent.

We're being used by Bayern's players to add money to their contract.

We are being used by almost any players with a bit of ability to add money to their contract given that it's public knowledge how desperate we are for good players.

To be fair I didn't knew he had a contract till 2017. However I can't see Bayern sell and when crap hits fan players tend to stick to their big club rather then join us.

This is not the first time he has complained about not being a starter in all the big games at Bayern. Had similar issues under Heynckes a couple of seasons back. Don't think this is about a new contract. With his talent, and at his age, you can't blame his desire to be one of the first name on the team sheet.

Where are we going to play him though? Does he have the pace to play on the flank?

He was one of the stars of the World Cup at 20 years old from a nominal right wing position.

No chance Bayern would even think about selling Muller, the fans love him.

Yes because having pace is helping us so much right now with Young, Nani and Valencia on the wings.

Lack of Pace is one of the biggest issues at the moment. The team is too damn slow to move the ball from defense to attack

In the first half of last season he had 9 goals and nine assists in 16 matches playing on the right wing. This season he almost always scored or assisted whenever he played on the right - even if it was just fractions of the match if e.g. Robben was subbed and he moved from OM to right wing. I bet he was even a lot more effective than Robben if you compare the minutes they played nominal there. So yes he can play there. Durm, the new Dortmund leftback, was asked who was most difficult to play against: Robben, Bale or CR7 - he answered Bale and added Müller to it. Bale because of his pace - Müller because you never know what he does next... Or just ask ManCity's leftbacks... But - he is the tulip general's shadow peak...

I personally consider him better out wide right as when he has the CAM role and disappears on his runs, his presence is really missed. You need absolute world-class CM's to handle playing in a midfield duo.

When his runs begins out wide, it allows a creative AM to play centrally, who is usually going to have a much easier time finding Muller not only because of being better at creating, but having a position further up the field. When the CM's has a good AM to play off, it also means they will have much more time on the ball to find Muller with a long-ball as well.

There he is never really missed either out wide, except of course if you are LVG and you want the wide men there constantly. I love Muller, but him joining us is something I am more scared than happy about as I'm not sure LVG will play him wide - and centrally we can't afford to play him with our CM's and considering he'd most likely bench Rooney, Kagawa and Mata by doing so.

We're supposed to have made a 'formal bid' 2 weeks ago, is this old news?

Manchester United are reported to have made a formal approach for Bayern Munich forward two weeks ago as Louis van Gaal bids to reinforce his ranks ahead of his move to the club after the World Cup.

Muller has been linked with a transfer to Manchester United for some time amid supposed uncertainty regarding his future with Bayern Munich, and BILD reports that an offer has been submitted by the Red Devils.

The Germany international himself has fuelled speculation about a potential departure from the Allianz Arena after this week claiming he needs to seek assurances from Bayern that he remains an integral part of their plans.

Manchester United, it would seem, are optimistic of taking advantage of Muller’s current predicament and, while it is unclear of the exact size of their proposal submitted, they have previously been linked with a £35 million bid for the 24-year-old.

Van Gaal is expected to perform something of an overhaul of the squad he has inherited during the summer transfer window, and the acquisition of Muller would certainly go some way to propelling the club into the upper echelons of the Premier League once again.

Along with Muller, Manchester United have also been linked with moves central midfielders Toni Kroos and Cesc Fabregas, while Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels also appears to be in Van Gaal’s sights.

Let me try to take everything together.

Müller already had offers of Manchester United before or Bayern requests from United for Müller. 2010 after the World Cup and last year after Moyes took reign.

Kicker (with Müller they seem to be relieable) told about an offer to Müller even before van Gaal was officially announced at the begin of May. They told (Monday) about phone talks between Müller and van Gaal (Müller and van Gaal were always in contact since van Gaal's time in Munich but probably not as intensive)

Müller's agent was asked in the beginning of March about rumours of Barcelona and Manchester United - he told that Müller will not go to Barcelona but did not want to comment on United or England.

I do not know if there was another formal request - but BILD told that Woodward had contact with Rummenigge over that topic at the CL final and Rummenigge told that Müller will not be sold to any club for no money and they must have told the same to the Müller camp.

The answer was an authorized interview of Müller with the Stern that was published yesterday.

The interview somehow implies - Give me a role that I can live with for my career in sports or if not let me go.

Müller has gotten the symbol of the club in the recent years. No other player probably stands as much for the club than he does. He is the top scorer, too. Not the technical artist but the guy with the most temperament, enthusiasm, willpower, laughter, heart and craziness... The fans and the media are in love with him and the way he is and the club really uses that for his own sake. But - with Pep's tactics and with holding onto everybody and even buying new players that might be more Pep's kind of players that dangers his playing time especially in the big matches that he loves and excels in.

I guess he has to make it official to really have any power - he has contract until 2017 so usually the club has better cards. It is not only about leaving - it is this two sides. It is not about money but about his role. He told that he is not the mighty shiny guy the club can do anything with and he will smile on it without giving his opinion...

Id like to know how rated he is, Ill be honest, hes never stood out to me but is that because I havent been looking for him if you know what I mean.

Ive seen the youtubes and he looks fantastic positionally and finishing wise, but why would Bayern even think of letting him go? what would make him unhappy? surely being such a good player makes him untouchable and means he would almost always start?

We are chasing shadows while the likes of Fabregas are available. I hope I am wrong in this but I can't see him joining us

More like we operate in shadows and far from any media spotlight while twitter wankers just making a wild guesses.

So he never stood out to you but he is positionally fantastic and his finishing is also great. Okay! What would make him unhappy? Its simple really - playing time. Have you seen the squad Bayern have and the attacking options at their disposal? Obviously he can't play every game.

He wants to be assured of having a key role in the first team, not just being a big game player but then not being sure if he'll start the other games. Pep does value him, it's just he doesn't want to be in and out of the team. It's a pretty hard thing to assure someone a first time place at Bayern considering they have Robben and Ribery on the wings, are getting Lewandowski up front then have Gotze and Kroos (and Thiago really) capable of playing behind him. He'd still play loads but you can't really be a guaranteed starter with those options.

He's a class player but I can't see it happening. Not sure why it's even being touted. He's doing well at Bayern so don't see any reason to leave.

He'd be fantastic for us but Bayern will surely convince him that he's wanted there. They'd be stupid if they let him go as he's popular amongst the fans and an important player for them. Really can't see him leaving this summer in all honesty.

Because there is so much competition for places at Bayern now, that level of player will not want to sit on the bench. Also appears to rate LVG as a coach
