Thomas Müller

Thanks Pep, good to see you on our forum.

I don't know why you have chosen to be sarcastic about it.

The player has absolutely no reason to move, so why would he?

His recent statement would suggest he is open minded about his future until Bayern tell him how much he's loved. I don't think anything can be ruled out until that happens

If you actually read some of the posts by the Bayern fans in this thread, you'd see he actually does have reason to move. He just wants more appreciation and game time, despite quite a few subs and being omitted in a few key games, he is top scorer and has been excellent. But he needs that reassurance that he's not a peripheral figure, he wants to be in those important games, but it's hard to know for sure as Pep may have more plans to sign new players... Not to mention, he and LvG are "old friends", so with a bit of nudging and a lack of clarity from Bayern + Pep, we may end up with him.

....there is a lot more of this... :D

Who played that pass? Kroos?

Nope. After the season we've had we'll be lucky to get 80 million for any two of our players, let alone the squad players.
My post was more in jest than anything . Seriously though id flog young , fellaini and smalling and make 30 mill . (5 + 12.5 +12.5 ) . Sell fletcher to Celtic for 5 mill and use kagawa as bait for reus . Put a big bid in for Vidal and sign a top centre half plus shaw . I would see how that goes before strootman (definately) arrives in January .
No muller for me !

Terrible ideas.
I agree with selling Young, however he's currently on ~120k p/w and he's well within his rights to reject any personal terms that aren't close to that figure. I'd like to see him moved on, I just don't see who's going to buy him.
Selling Smalling would be disastrous, and on top of that it wont happen, the club clearly have faith in him and Jones. Buying a RB or promoting Varela so Smalling and Jones don't have to deputise for Rafael is a much better idea.
Although he's not loved by many, selling Fellaini would also be a terrible idea, no one is going to buy him, plus not a single one of our outfield players (except Rooney, Welbeck & Mata) played well last season - so judging Fellaini by that measurement is very premature. I'd rather we sold Cleverley and Anderson first. Like it or not, Fellaini is staying for at least another season.
Nobody's going to buy Fletcher, ever.
Selling Kagawa as bait for Reus wont work because 1) they dont play in the same position 2) Klopp isn't stupid. Reus was Dortmund's best player last year, and considering they're losing Lewy he's going to want to hold on to as many top talents as he can. 3) Reus loves Dortmund.
Vidal wont come, especially without CL football. He'll end up at PSG.
What top centre half is available? I don't count the likes of Mangala/Benatia as 'top' because they aren't consistent enough at the highest level.

These football manager-esque transfers just don't happen in real life.

On the topic of Muller; I think he's a fantastic player, and clearly he's highly regarded by LVG - but Bayern will give him the assurances he wants and he'll stay.

I have "actually read" (seriously is there a more condescending opening to a reply than "have/if/ you actually") the posts you mention, and none of them are reason to leave and move what actually at the moment, is several steps down the ladder to play at United.
I struggle to think of anywhere he could move to at the moment where he would be in with a chance of the success he will get by staying at Bayern.
Pep will be out the door before the directors allow him to move on the German core of the side, especially considering it's his shortcomings and not theirs that lead to their European exit this season.

In my eyes a very good article to understand why Thomas Müller might want to leave Munich... It is from an English Bayern blog (they seem to have read the full interview he gave)

Time for Müller to Become an Unquestionable Starter at Bayern Munich

After years of having his place in the squad defined by others, the time has come for him to have a strong, independent role

Even after he burst onto the scene in the 2010 World Cup for Germany, Thomas Müller was a fragile caterpillar at Bayern München. He ate all the playing time he could get, his potential growing each with minute he got on the pitch.

With the world elites as his comrades, the surrounding players in the squad wrapped his role around him like a cocoon. Where he played depended on where his manager needed him, and what started as a nurturing womb of prospect turned into a prison cell as he developed his wings.

It is time for Müller to burst out of his cocoon, his bright colors projecting into the Allianz Arena crowd. At 24, he is a full-grown butterfly, and he needs the room to soar through his prime years.

On the surface, Müller is receiving the playing time that a specimen of his caliber dictates – he featured in 51 of Bayern's 56 matches, in which he started 40 of them. No attacker recorded more minutes than the 3576 he did. In a squad teeming with football's elite, that is an accomplishment unto itself.

"He has played in nearly every match," said German national team coach Joachim Löw in a press conference. "Even Philipp Lahm was benched for a few games. At Bayern, you can't always play."

The underlying reasons for his minute total on the pitch reveals what his role in the side is. Many of his shifts were ones he picked up from the unfit, acting more as a fill-in for Franck Ribéry or Arjen Robben. Three more came from the irrelevant matches at the end of the Bundesliga campaign.

Müller did not have an independent role in the side, the players around him determining his place in the side. Had players stayed healthy, he would have seen a fraction of the action he received. His fitness and form have remained constant throughout his rise in prowess, and yet he is still fighting for his spot in the side.

"It feels worse [than losing a big game] to receive word from the manager that you are not playing," Müller said in an interview with
Stern. "The other is just a loss in sports."

Müller's versatility is perhaps his greatest attribute, one that both Jupp Heynckes and Pep Guardiola exploited when scheming their tactical plans. Able to play in the heart and on either edge of attack, he can adequately perform the duties assigned to him. That skill may be a blessing for Bayern, but a curse in his quest to cement himself in the side.

Only when Löw calls him into the National Team is Müller's spot in the side secure. He has soared for die Adler on the right flank since his manager entrusted him with it in 2010. After five seasons at Bayern, in which he contributed to seven major trophies, he now needs a spot to himself, one that is unconditional on the others around him.

"I'm not the type anymore that says: 'Good, now I have a good role here and there. Therefore I will keep my mouth shut and people can do with me what they want,'" said Müller. "I know above all else what I did for Bayern in the last five years."

To ask for such a role is a sizable request with the stable of stallions antsy to run free as well. Guardiola is required to field Franck Ribéry and Arjen Robben as well, and he cannot ignore the expensive additions of Mario Götze and Robert Lewandowski. Remaining passive with Müller's place in the squad is irresponsible nonetheless, especially with his record in the biggest matches Bayern have been apart of – Müller has scored four goals in the eight European finals he has played in.

"I have reached the point where I want to know before the season whether I am a central component of the Bayern XI going forward and whether I am really in the club's plans the next few years," said Müller. "For that reason, I will seek out this conversation."

Bayern could have responded to his doubt with their actions, reportedly shooing away a transfer approach from Manchester United. Müller's contract runs until 2017, and the Rekordmeister rarely sell world-class forwards in their prime. Still, the club has reached the Wendepunkt, or turning point, in his career as their home-grown talent hits his prime.

Perhaps Müller's opportunity is nearing, with Ribéry and Robben progressing into the twilight of their careers. That scenario came about in Heynckes's final season, having to rely on Müller when Robben was struggling with his fitness at the beginning of the treble season. When Toni Kroos collected his season-ending injury against Juventus, it was Müller who then gave way to Robben, another case of Müller's role dependent on those around him. Müller's team selection needs to be independent from the inevitable decline of the Robbery era if he is indeed the "central component" of Bayern's future.

Müller is no longer the prospect that requires a cocoon of protection; he is ready to take his first full flight into Fußball history, but he needs the room to flutter his wings.

Other than not being valued as a key player by Guardiola and liable to spend a lot of next season on the bench.

i hope with van gaal coming we can snatch a few bayern players, and maybe more germans.

sir alex was never fond of germans for some reason but van gaal got a history there and germans got the best players in the world right now. muller is an unlikely to happen but if we can get one or maybe two top german international this summer that would represent a great summer spending imo.

Why isn't Gotze undergoing speculation instead of Muller? I know he joined Bayern only a year ago and on a big contract. But you can say that Gotze has not been able to shine for whatever reasons. Muller's influence both on and off the pitch for Bayern means that he shouldn't be so concerned. So what is actually going on? Does Pep not like him/not his type of player? As the article mentions, Robben is old now and he struggles with fitness. I can see Muller being more useful for Bayern in that case than Gotze. And I believe that Muller is as good as Gotze talent-wise and certainly better big game wise. And most of all, Muller is a long time Bayern player and is a fan favourite. I would think that Muller shouldn't have concerns about being part of Bayern going forward. So what is happening?

Was there a reason? Not until the last few years Germans particularly those who played for Bayern would rarely leave Germany though.

Not just Germans the Bundesliga as a whole is riped with current world class players, and lots who have the potential to be top quality.

Yes indeed, according to BILD he signed a new deal until 2019. I guess Karl-Heinz Rummenigge could ease his worries by offering a slightly bigger pay-check. ;)

Interesting that Schweinsteiger hasn't extended his contract yet, considering it would run out at the same time as Lahm's, and one year before Muller's.

Told you that it was never on ;). Wasn't worried for a second about him.
Rummenigge easing Bavarian pain by resigning Müller and Lahm, as Bastian and Toni are set to go. ;)

Would have been a great signing but there was hardly any reason for him to move.. Never expected to get him so not gutted..

Schweini isn't going. If he's United's main target, you guys probably have to relive the Thiago-Fabregas drama as a German remake. This time it's failing to sign Kroos, who really wants to leave, then shifting the focus on the older player, this time Schweinsteiger, without realising that there's no chance that he will leave.

I think Kroos is more gettable the Schweinsteiger, but LvG has a better relationship with the latter. So in summary, we'll get neither.

Just for the ones that are interested. United offered as a first offer a sum that was higher than the market value of transfermarkt of 45 million EUR. (BILD)

(the offer that was denied and Rummenigge told a "not for sale")

You can correct me if I am wrong since he was your former manager, but doesn't Van Gaal favour young players who he can mould and will listen to all of his instructions over recognised superstars from other clubs? I just don't see us moving the in the sort of circles many are suggesting for our summer transfer targets. I expect to see us sign young talent.

Doesn't the pope shit in the wood? Isn't Suarez a bit of a bastard?

He'll buy if he feels he really has to, and even then he doesn't like overspending one bit.

£36 Million isn't that much for a player like Muller.

98 goals and 87 assists in CL, league and Cup in the first 5 years of your professional career. I guess there ain't so much players that have done that on the same level... 60 per cent of it were away from home - and even in this season he was the best player of all top 5 leagues away from home with 9 goals and 10 (or 9 - depends how you count) assists (apart from Suarez who had more match time!). And he is not known to score much against easy opponents.

Never missed more than one competitive club match because of injuries or sickness - in the last 14 years...

24 years - 49 caps - more than 50 CL matches - 3 CL finals.

Top scorer (goals and assists) in all of the five years combined of his club - and in three of the five years.

I don't think he'd of came here, but he'd be one of the best signings we could of made. Absolutely class.

I don't even know how Muller could have been a transfer rumour. It is more impossible to buy him than Messi.
